I’m very disappointed by the way this game is turning out, in my opinion Arenanet/you has/have made mistake after mistake for at least a few months now but in my opinion this is a new low: you/they try to fix a design flaw (not being able to change traits [just] anywhere) by a cashshop item.

I already don’t see the use of having to pay for a trait switch anyway (which is what initially must have caused it to only be possible at certain NPCs), its effects as a gold sink have to be miniscule compared to the trade post fees yet it still might discourage people from experimenting with different trait setups (which might make the game more fun) thereby getting the negative result without the positive. (The same arguments also go for waypoint fees and armor damage.)

But the way you/they handle this is just pathetic. What’s next? A cashshop item that lets you have a personal condition cap for an hour (as opposed to the global condition cap there is now)?

I’m pretty sure the pathetic thing in this thread is not the trait reset item…..

The trait reset charge is simply a gold-sink…..MMOs must have them. It is NOT a lot of money (like 3 silver?). The item is simply for lazy people with way too much money….can’t blame Anet for fleecing the rich & stupid.

How exactly does this item being available in the Gem shop effect your game….at all?

I completely agree with the OP. Attributes in the original Guild Wars could be adjusted without a problem (i.e. easily and without a fee) anywhere you were located. When I say easily, I mean that there was a MINUS sign and a plus sign next to each Attribute. This is unlike the GW2 trait system, which for some idiotic reason only has a plus sign (in addition to the fact that you have to go to a profession Trainer and pay to have your traits reset).

Now Arenanet wants us to pay for the ability to customize our characters’ traits wherever we are? This has to be one of the most irrational and greedy actions I’ve seen Arenanet take.

As I tried to explain, I don’t believe the trait reset is at all comparable to the trade post as a gold sink and anyway that was definitly not the point I was trying to make. If they removed that item and made traits able to be reset anywhere for the same amount of silver it costs at a trainer I might not agree with it but I certainly wouldn’t find it bad enough to complain about.

And I think I can blame Anet for trying to fix a design flaw (needing to be in one of several locations to reset trait points) by introducing a cashshop item.

And in response to Supremelo (who posted while I was typing), minor point: at launch you had to save up attribute refund points to reduce attributes (refund point were obtained one every so much xp (can’t remember, nor care how much)). By the way a system that was also flawed but changed in a much better way.

I say make those resets at least items so we can put a stack into bag. No those for 70 diamonds but those from NPC.
And please give a slap from me to a person who thought it would’ve made a good product to sell with RMT.

Actually… I think he doesn’t know that he can reset traits for 3 silver [“… (Not being able to change traits anywhere) by a cashshop item”]

Fail : P

By “anywhere”, he means “in any place.” Currently, the game only allows you to reset traits by visiting Profession trainers (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trainer). This of course excludes the times when traits are reset by using training manuals.

The game’s been out a year now, you people had plenty of time to realize it’s GW1 with modern graphics but a different game, so why do you still bring up how GW1 did some things?

Hmm that came out all wrong, let me rephrase: Why do you bring up irrelevant things like this trivial fee and near-useless gemstore item, or waypoints, or repair costs? Of all the things wrong with the direction this game is going that is what you go on about?

I would complain louder about the cop-out birthday present we had if I compare it to the way GW1 did those, and a whole list of other things, before a few silver for retraiting enters my mind.

Here’s a thought: Just give us the ability to reset traits whenever we’re outside of combat, like PvP does. This has to be the worst thing I’ve seen in the Gem Store since the Royal Pass and Infinite Continue Coin.

The only reason I see of the trait reset in the gem store is so you dont have to go to your trainer to reset your traits.

Otherwise if someone wants to buy it, it is their choice, its their gems. You can still use the trainer to reset if you need to.

Why don’t they just put a fee on a reset button in the trait menu? It’s still a gold sink and isn’t a shameless cash shop money grab…

On the flip side I wonder if they’ll be mixed in with the random daily reward items like transmutation stones, revive orbs, etc. Because I might actually use these.

Another stupid thing is not being able to combine normal transmutation stones into transmutation crystals. Only way to get those is the store or BLC and BLC key drops are so rare that you’ll see more dodo birds running around outside then you will keys….

This is a convenience item on par with the unlimited gathering tools. “shameless cash shop money grab” is loltastic. Of course they want to make money from their cash shop. But just like you can waypoint around to get to a vendor of gathering tools, you also can waypoint to reset your traits. It’s a minor inconvenience. It’s not game-breaking.

For me, this requirement is a feature, not a flaw, for reasons I gave here.

I tried to make it as clear as possible that that was not my main point, I’d have removed it if I didn’t think that would make Brother Grimm’s reply incomprehensible.

For me, this requirement is a feature, not a flaw, for reasons I gave here.

I can’t really respond to an argument based on elementalist traits (due to not having one at lvl 80). And I suppose the main point would be that we disagree on what is more important. Anyway I’d still say whether it’s a feature or a flaw introducing a cashshop item to bypass/fix it is a bad descision.

The trait reset item is on par with swim boosters. Who on earth would buy them?

The reason this trait reset item makes me sad is because – Well it’s a bad decision. It means they have no intend of letting us reset traits on the fly as players have requested since launch.
