So what’s interesting about this achievement is that you don’t have to kill him first. You just have to kill him before you kill ALL of his crew. Therefore, you can kill off a good portion of his crew by pulling them away and then pull him out and kill him. At least, that’s how my team and I got the achievement.

Got this on my first playthrough under some weird circumstances. On the first pull we accidentally killed a pair of veterans, eventually wiping. On the second attempt we pulled him with a couple of his buddies to the back corner of the room. We figured the chivo was already off the table so we killed the aggrod members of his posse. 3/5 party members were dead by the time we got him to 40%, and our other remaining party member went down at around 5%. After finishing off the boss with my crappy guardian downed skills, we got the achievement.
Party members dying sure didn’t fail the achievement for us, and neither did killing about 1/5th the veterans before the boss himself.
I finished all my achievements today. Here is how i did it. As we entered that room we jumped to the right. You should see two giant pipes on the bottom that you can hide between, near the ramp that you are supposed to go after you kill him. Pull the boss into that area between the pipes. All adds that you might of pulled along with him do not follow there. So you can just run forward and backward between the two pipes and kill him. You can either wait for the mechanical alarm squid to pass before the pull or you can pull and kill the alarm squid first, it does not aggro the rest. Be careful because the trash the squid spawns does follow you into that area. Keep in mind that i did not know how many i was allowed to kill, so i wanted to do it the “safe” way.
Do not let people run on the pipes because if the boss gets stuck there he teleports away and resets, this usually happens on the pipe thats next to the wall. Its pretty easy, also its best if you have at least one person melee him then he almost never throws his whirling blades. If he is spinning towards you, dodge into him and run into the opposite direction between the two giant pipes. After he is dead, revive the dead players and kill the rest of his crew, get the achievement and gg, good luck.

Actually when you kill the foreman you do not get the achievement right away, you get it when you kill the crew afterwards. If you did not get it after you killed the crew, you must of killed too many of his adds before you killed him. We had one person disconnect right before we killed the boss and when he came back and we killed the crew he still got the achievement.

The achievement is either bugged or poorly worded. It says to “finish off his entire crew,” but it currently works so it’s actually “finish off his crew,” meaning that players only have to leave some of the crew alive before killing the boss.
I’m hoping it’s just poorly worded. If players are seriously expected to kill the boss while tanking and not killing a bunch of squishy adds, then the developers are severely underestimating class imbalances and how many cleaves and accidental AOEs exist in Guild Wars 2.
Me and guildies have tried to get the achievement twice now without succeeding.
The first time we killed the back row of the crew before engaging the boss, but the boss unleached; No achievement update after killing him and then the rest of the crew.
The second attempt we cleared all crew except the front row and then pulled the boss (and he stayed leached this time); No achievement after killing him and then the remainder of his crew.
For both of these attempts no groupmember died. Someone might, or might not, have been in a downed state during the fight but noone died.
I’m sort of stumped on what we did wrong, and from what I can tell noone seem sure about the exact mechanics yet.
We tried four times with no results.
We tried all the things posted here, except the one which is killing NONE of the crew, kill boss first on those 2 pipes, and then the entire crew.
Our tactic was the common, pulled some mobs, killed them, then the boss, then finished the rest.
No one of us died (some might have gone downed).
But people say, even if you die you can get the achiev. I know ppl who wiped and got the achiev anyway…
So this is sooo bugged, I’m not sure whats the 100% sure way to make this achiev.
Four tries and i dunno what to do for next…

One thing you guys might be missing is that you CANNOT disengage. That means you cannot kill boss then disengage and then engage the remaining mobs.
I didn’t get it yet though, but i’m trying next time doing the following:
Kill 3 first rows, then aggro boss. When he is at somewhat 10% of his life, aggro 1 or 2 of his remaining crew, then kill boss without disengaging adds, then aggro the rest of them if they are not aggroed already and finally kill them all.
People cannot be dead when boss is down nor when u kill all mobs. Dont Get OOC also.

I don’t think that disengaging or engaging the remaining mobs seems to be the solution.
Another video showing the attainment of the achieve clearly shows them engaging some of the mobs (along with boss), killing all mobs that accompanied boss, killed the boss, disengaged, then killed the remaining mobs not aggroed (about 3/4 of them still):

To say the least, this achievement is perplexing… people report that you can wipe, not disengage, leave only one, etc… I wish we got SOME sort of official reply on the status of this achievement, or at least clearer instructions to how to get it; its description is just too vague.
We just got it.
We killed the ~10 mobs nearest to the entrance and the “Alarm Bot” before we engaged the boss. We pulled the boss clockwise along the wall (passing the 2 pipes that were mentioned before) until we were below the entrance and then started to dps him. You don’t really have a lot of room to fight there and 2 of our people died during the fight. The remaining 3 players killed him and resurrected the 2 AFTER the boss was dead. We then engaged and killed the remaining ~10 mobs and got the achievement.
From a few runs now, doing PuG’s so I know when people get the achievement, it doesn’t seem that dying, disengaging (losing agro/leashing mobs), or even wiping matters at all. I ran it several times using Dulfy’s method, leaving a few on the far end, didn’t die and didn’t get credit for the achieve. However, both parties I’ve been in that got the achievement wiped plenty of times. It would seem that killing the boss before killing all of the crew is Somewhat correct. In both of the parties we’ve got the achieve in, we just stayed in the corner to the left of the entrance and killed as few mobs as we could before killing the boss. You can kill off a few on the close corner but leave as many as possible. It may be a little difficult for certain parties but we just killed Spur in the mentioned corner as to not agro any of the crew we didn’t have to, the are tethered to him so if you have Spur’s agro, they will agro to you as long as you’re within their entire agro range. However, Spur’s leash range is the entire room and the ABlades only have the leash range of a normal mob.
We just got it.
The remaining 3 players killed him and resurrected the 2 AFTER the boss was dead. We then engaged and killed the remaining ~10 mobs and got the achievement.
I’ve done this twice. No achievement either time. W. T. Boo boo kitty.

Just a question is it a team achieve or a solo achieve?
We cleared 60% of the room and then pulled the boss and after killing him and clearing the rest of the mobs none of us got the achieve.
The achieve description states that we can’t die nor break agro so my question is, if one dies none gets the achieve or just that person shouldn’t get the achieve.
Since we had one death and none got the achieve i imagine it’s the 1st case but this topic is bugging me a little.
There’s a few threads, nothing definite about what’s causing it to not trigger.
No official word that I’ve seen either.

My group of guildies can consistently get the achievement now.
From what I can tell; Kill as few of the crew as possible before killing the boss and never let the boss reset. If the boss resets, do a group wipe and start over (that happened to us one time and we still got the achievement after voluntarily wiping and running back from the waypoint).
Our tactics are as follows:
- We fight in the corner where you drop down into the room.
- Kill the two patrolling mobs and the watcher, but once they’re dead run into the corner of the room from where you drop down and try to unleach as many mobs as possible
- It helps killing the corner crew standing closest to where you’ll fight, otherwise they’ll repeatedly aggro and unleach during the boss fight and can wreck your group with conditions
- For the boss, walk along the pipes under where the waypoint will be to the next corner and pull the boss from there, attack the boss (and ideally only the boss) all the way back to the corner where you dropped into the room
- Kill the boss, trying to stay in the corner to avoid aggroing too many of the crew
- Once the boss is dead, kill the rest of the crew
- addendum: My current experience is that groupmembers dieing doesn’t affect the completion of the achievement, nor do you have to constantly be aggroed to the crew (you can rest up after killing the boss and before going after the rest of the crew.
The way we did it when I got this one was, we went behind the pipe under that ramp that leads up. Pulled the steam watcher and one group, killed, pulled boss, fought him behind the pipe, killed him without wipe. After that we cleaned the rest of the mobs, and when the last of them died the achievement popped for the whole group. I think most of the mobs need to be alive when the boss dies.
Our group managed to complete the achievement with an accidental disengagement as well as a wipe. We killed some of his minions while pulling, roughly 6 if I recall, and three of our members died. We had it set in our minds we wouldn’t get the achievement but after clearing the rest of the ground forces, as soon as the waypoint popped up, we earned it. From that experience alone, I want to say as long as after you kill him, without the waypoint popping up upon his death, you should obtain it when you finish off the rest of his lackeys.
Was an odd run too, struggled with Slick and Sparki for reasons we couldn’t fathom, yet managed to kill Clockheart in the first try.
I think most of the mobs need to be alive when the boss dies.
When I got it, we cleared until there were 6-10 mobs left on the farthest side of the room. Then again, we did wipe the first attempt, and I had to do the solo thief thing for the last bit of boss health bar, but it counted that time.
It seems just a tad twitchy, this achievement.
