Ok, sorry for the lame title, but I cannot think of something else that’s still polite.

So, Anet, I think you misunderstood the community. When we said “Living Story should add new permanent content to the game”, it was not a way to say “The old content sucks, nuke it and do something else”. And you know why ? Because you’re not adding content to the game this way !
You removed a path to add another one. There is still 3 path in Twilight Arbor, the exact same number than a year ago.

Twilight Arbor Forward/Up was an ok path with a kinda difficult and bugged final boss. Just put a cap to the number of spiders and make them despawn on wipe (that was the original state of the encounter btw), and done. You’ve got an ok path with a kinda difficult final boss. And no more whining about TA Fw/Up.

I don’t care about how longer, better, more fun, more interesting, more rewarding the new path is. I simply don’t care. You are removing core content from the game. And the pseudo lore justification I’ve read somewhere, just stop. You can’t put Scarlet and lore in the same sentence, that doesn’t work.

And btw, I really hope you’re not going to slap Scarlet everywhere from now on, because she’s not a good character. She has no charisma and her dialogue is cheesy as hell. If you want to write a “I’m evil because I’m mad” character, take a look at Suikoden 2 or Final Fantasy 6, not some Scooby-Doo cartoon.

I already foresee Arah p5 with Scarlet riding a Robot Zhaitan and summoning more undead dredges and Etherblades, because you know, everyone loves dredge.

I was really hyped for this patch, I was like “Ok, they are going the fix the issues in TA Fw/Up, maybe upgrade the 2 other paths, and add a new path ! Great !” but after watching the live stream, I’m really really disappointed.

I was kinda happy with the direction taken by the Living Story with the last few patches, but maybe I was too optimistic. This is not the good direction for the game. It has been a year, and I’m really tired.

That’s bring me back to my first question, why ?

So funny, I was very disappointed they felt they had to remove content in order to add in a new path. I logged in this morning to express my disappoint at this too. I hope this doesnt set a precedent for future additions.
Cant see why if there is a new lobby where you can choose to go old TA or new TA that they couldnt have left F/U where it was?

Having said that, im sure the new path will be good but I am disappointed we have lossed something in order to gain. Just my 2p worth

The main reason they remove F/U is because only a very small portion of the community runs that path. (Same goes for CoF p3 and AC p2 etc..) When you’re trying to search for a TA group, all they want to do is U and F/F because these are short and quick (good for farming). I think ArenaNet wants us to run all three paths frequently and not only certain paths because because they’re good farmable.

I understand that, but I dont think there is a need to remove content, give us a choice of things to do.
Did they really need to remove anything?
As I said Im worried it will set a precedent of removing old to make new, instead of expanding out world and options.

JesseyFranz, then tell me why they don’t remove or rework arah p2 for it’s well known selling spots or arah p4 instead because it’s way too long for casuals? And people knows how stupid is selling spot.

I don’t quite agree with this. The main reason the path is not run that often was because of the last boss. Without organized groups he was virtually impossible. If you look at the trends in dungeon running, we tend to choose the paths which:

a) Provide the best reward for amount of time put in, or
b) The quickest paths to run

This means unrewarding or lengthly and ultimately unrewarding paths will be skipped. TA FUP was the same length as the other TA paths, and was just as rewarding, but that end boss messed it all up.

As the OP points out, they didn’t need to remove the entire path, that just screams laziness. The only issue with the path was the end boss spawning far too many ads, which wouldn’t be too much of an issue if they weren’t all so tank, and did a ton of damage. That and the fact that he doesn’t reset properly, he just keeps spawning ads.

TL;DR – Fix issues, but don’t remove content entirely.

I’ll have to agree with this. I don’t think I’ve seen a game remove content before.
When they said they’re gonna add a new path I was like cool dungeons are starting to expand.
Maybe they’ll keep on adding paths to other dungeons as well and they’re gonna accumulate into a cool variety.
Imagine having 10 paths of a dungeon. You can still add a path with the living world but why scrap the existing ones. This way it’s not adding anything it’s just replacing.

I can’t even remember which one FW/UP path was. I did TA all paths only once in one go and all I do remember is that they all felt the same. That’s propably part of the reason why they removed one.

Sorry to disagree, but the reason no one wants to run TA p3 its because the final boss is bugged. Its not imposible to do, but you need patience, luck and one player running a defensive build in order to kite the spiders… basically, the encounter is broke…

I have my Dungeon Master ach at this point (that means i have run at least 1 time all the paths in every dungeon) and the thing is, the entire idea of just running from boss to boss (or event) its just… boring…
They encouraged you to skip trash cause is not rewarding, they get you nothing in exchange for the time and effort you put in kill trash.

In my humble opinion they need to add incentives to run all the paths like “have you completed the 3 paths today? here! take 1 extra gold” or skins, or whatever…

There is no ‘hard’ dungeon in this game, only maybe a very long one (arah p4)… With a lil bit of knowledge everyone in yellow gear can clean any path in any dungeon

Why?

Because they don’t want a fragmented playerbase. If they continue this way the number of dungeons would become too high and players wouldn’t find other people to group with anymore. 32 paths is already a quite big number for dungeons.

Why not remove the at least played dungeons (probably because players don’t like it) and give us a high quality dungeon instead? Personally I like it a lot.

PS: would you prefer the route of minigames? Each day only one of the 8 dungeons is open for players. Meh. What I’d like to see though: increased (and I mean considerably increased) rewards for a specific dungeon each day, in rotation. This way players would likely try new dungeons and don’t repeat the most-rewarding each day.

Well, it was by a pretty healthy margin the least-frequently run dungeon path in the game. An annoying, not particularly unique, merely-decent-at-best path with a downright broken boss is being replaced by something novel and exciting. And it’s being altered for story reasons, which is all the better as there was nothing of note inside from a lore perspective anyway. This is exactly the kind of thing Colin stated could happen as a result of the world evolving over time.

I think this is one of the more cogent threads on this but the forum page is cluttering up with threads on the exact same thing. When they get merged it will be very hard to figure out who is replying to what, so why not select an existing “They dumped F/U” thread to state your own thoughts?
