Is it confirmed that the giant ones can drop Foostivoo?
Or is the one who add this to wiki a troll?

No it is busted. I spent a ton of wool stuff to get one of the same wool material

It is like blowing say 20 plat ores to get one in return.

WTF is this junk?

You bought a Giant Gift (lottery ticket) instead of one of the weapon skins or consumables, and the lottery ticket you bought was a losing one. Not junk, not a conspiracy

This.

Sometimes the gifts you hope for are not given to you and you actually do get crappy socks, sweaters or hats.

I’m ok with it. It makes me chuckle when I get boned this way, which is the whole point. Besides, you can’t really get anything that will make a big difference in how you play the game.

My two cents.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather. Not screaming like the people in his car.

Dude. that is exactly what lottery tickets do.
90% of scratch ticket" wins" are $1 back.

But those tickets don’t cost $10, do they?

The issue here is that you “pay” 10 sweaters and, in 90% of the cases, get 1 sweater. Not only are you getting something worth 10% of what you paid, but you’re getting exactly the item you were trying to get rid of (so much for gift exchange).

IMO there should be exactly a 0% chance of getting a sweater from a gift you purchased with sweaters (you should get bells, tonics, hats, socks, snowflakes, etc.). And the average value of what you get from the gift should be only slightly inferior to the value of the items you turned in. Even in roulette, on average you get back 47% of what you bet. Here, in 90% of the cases, you get 10% of what you put in (and in 9% of the cases you get a snowflake that’s worth the same as 2 sweaters, and in 1% of the cases you get something else, typically worth 4 or 5 sweaters).

The other gifts are actually a better deal than the giant one, but really, given the abysmal drop rates, you’re generally better off selling the sweaters at the trading post and buying presents there, instead of using the “gift exchangers” which are really more like “item deleters”.

I’ve never understood the gambling mentality / addiction, but even I can see the odds here make no sense. It’s like playing in a roulette where 90% of the numbers are green. And, purely from a gameplay point of view, it doesn’t make any sense for a “gift exchanger” to take 10 sweaters and “exchange” them for one identical sweater.

I think something you’re all forgetting is that the Christmas sweaters you got to buy the packs with were free; unless you were dumb enough to buy them from the trading post in which case i have no sympathy for you. They didn’t make you buy a ticket to play the games that give you the sweaters and they didn’t force it into your story line. So stop QQing and be happy that gw2 isn’t a pos MMO like most of the new ones that have been released lately.

Just opened 58 Giant Wintersday Gifts on my 73 Warrior, only stating that cause AnthonyOrdon said, ‘The items found in the gifts are a bit random. Giant gifts are awarded to level 60-80 players and should contain somewhat level appropriate gifts.’
What I got: 54 Sweaters and 4 Flawless Snowflakes.
Just felt like sharing c:

What I thought would happen when purchasing the gifts with the higher level items ie the hat and sweater, was that I would get larger amounts of the lower level stuff. So, one sweater would get me 10 socks, etc. I see no point in giving us different level items that we cant combine to get the items we need. Yes, they are free, but I have spent a lot of time farming these items. I have some of each, which isnt going to get me anything. I need 250 socks to get the item I want, but having 13 hats and a sweater isnt going to help me with that, theyre a waste.

Colour me dense, but why were 3 different types of “ugly wool” items even necessary for gift exchange?
Just seems like an exercise in over complicating the whole situation

Being a huge pessimist I figured a prezzie was a prezzie was a prezzie. Ergo swapping prezzie contents for a prezzie was a , generally, losing prospect. Gave enough of my socks etc to a mate who makes rings etc for me, so he could get some recipes. The rest I sold to a vendor. Refusing to play the completionist game I will sell all the silly cogs etc (not that I have an etc, no stuffing or glue) and aim to be, eventually, one of the few 80’s not to own a single mini pet.

I liked the wintersday presentq in the original GW MUCH better, at least you could get cool items like the candy canes instead of some socks to buy presents that will give you more socks….

I don’t understand why people are complaining. It’s a lottery – only if you lose, u get an ugly wool sock/hat/sweater back instead of nothing

It may be just semantics, but usually, lottery tickets are called “lottery tickets”, not “gifts”.

Does anyone have one of those crazy old relatives, who comes to Christmas with the whole family, and gives out ugly sweaters or ugly socks or ugly hats? Following that, what does everyone think about the crazy relative who hands those gifts out?

Why anyone would buy the gifts is beyond me. Really the only two reasons could be you have a dozen leftover sweaters after buying the skins you wanted, or you opened 10000+ gifts hoping for a bell and now have 10000+ sweaters to buy more gifts because you still didnt get that bell.

If the devs allowed this to happen a few times and stopped, I’d say no harm no foul. But after allowing hundreds, even thousands of these types of exchanges to take place, they had to know they were exploiting.

It is two things:
1)It is a lottery and there is nothing wrong with that, you pays your money you takes your chance.
2) Most importantly it is Anets way of keeping one of its promises this is a wealth redistribution exercise. The player is the original source of presents they cannot be bought for gold from an NPC. The presents do not provide an in-game advantage. Everyone knows the drop rate for the really high demand items is low most people try a gamble or two however only the in-game rich will be mass buying presents from the TP to gamble with (for no advantage over others). This creates a flow of money from the rich players to the poorer players reducing the money gap. Its a smart solution to a problem now stop whining about it :P

I would have to say that out of all the gift boxes I got from the merchant all I got was a few of the same thing I payed for them. That’s a bit more than random , its more like a shell game where you have almost no chance to win. Yea I felt ripped off cause it was from a merchant with no indication of it being a gamble other than by loosing a lot. Now if it had been on a festive slot machine I wouldn’t mind cause then there would be some indication of what I was getting into.

It’s kind of obvious what you’re getting into when you purchase and open one gift box.
