So I decided to get all the wintersday achievements and headed to snowball mayhem. I was easily able to get gift bringer but I’m having problems doing gift stopper. I know I have downed a few enemies holding the gift but I have not even gotten one point towards completion. I usually gang up with an ally to take someone down but I get no credit. Any idea on what am I doing wrong?

You usually have to strike the downing blow. Doesn’t work if they drop it due to tripping or what not.

My tip, be a scout, and hide near the path to the enemy base (just before the main big section).

When the gift carrier comes, click them to lock on. Snipe, volley, ???, profit.

It doesn’t even work if you did most of the damage, but a teammate comes and does the finish them move :P Pretty frustrating achievement.

Edit: Okay, don’t know why, but I switched over to another character and now I’m getting the achievements for downs…

Yeah, this one seems a little buggy actually. I downed the person and even got credit for the kill on the gift carrier; but I get no overall credit on the gift stopper achievement progress. Technically this achievement I assumed would have been easier to get then the gift bringing one. However that is not the case at all, I can’t get it past 2 now. I would have thought if you just make the person drop the gift then that would be it, but it’s much tougher overall. I have been at this thing for 6 hours straight and only 2 points to that achievement category, while the gift bringer achievement was done under an hour.

Also Car which character did you use to get it (race/profession)?

Yeah, I have I think 2 downings, but I know I’ve dropped a lot more guys than that. I’m pretty sure that using the Support “ice slick” abilities counts for nothing.

If they do an event like this again, they need to broaden both of these achievements. If you carry a present for any length of time and that present eventually scores, you could get a point towards “scoring.” If you defend a teammate running with a present, you should get a point towards “scoring.” If you in any way cause an opponent to drop his present, you should get a point towards “defending.”

The way it’s set up now is far too anti-teamwork. It’s far too biased towards personal glory rather than doing what’s best for the team.

Yes. this is very very buggy !! I’m on 4/5 for this achievement, I know I’ve so far killed at least another two people with the gift and it hasn’t counted, and thats not counting alot of players dropping the gift when they are about to die.

Continued progress on the achievement is breaking, my mind because I know I kill the person who has the gift so many times now. I spent another 5 hours seeing if I could just get one more point. Is this one supposed to be this difficult? I did the jumping puzzle and the bell choir ones but this one is a real pain to get. I love everything about this update by the way, but this bug is driving me up the wall. It can’t be connection issues otherwise I would have never gotten the gift bringer.

On a side note I am getting a bunch of personal gifts off from this so it’s not too bad. I guess I will wait to see if Arena net patches this latter hopefully. Also I tried another character to if it was another issue which was my thief/human (main is an engineer/asura) but no luck yet.

EDIT: Finally finished this. It seems the best way to get this is with the scout profession and when they are getting really close to their base. I used that sling shot skill to hold and charge up skill to get it. However it does seem to count on when you downed someone in this way. I really have a feeling it was a register problem in the code. Since it was nigh impossible to get it any other way then the description I gave above.

i’ve got the enemy to drop the gift all by myself countless times and i’ve even take that gift. i got zero gift stopper on my achievement. this is ridiculous.

People can drop the gifts by pressing ~ right before they go down; perhaps they’re trolling and do not want people to get the achievement easily?

I had some problems initially, but a relog seemed to fix it for me. And yes, a scout is the best option at getting quick stops. A snipe should take 3 quarters of the person’s health off! Just try more, and I’m sure you’ll get it. All the best!

I had trouble with this one as well. To get it i went scout and chased after them. I would stealth if i had the whole opposite team after me then sneak up close to the one carrying the present and then do the volley right up against him so he would get all the damage. Wasnt ever any of my other teammates around, so would often die. I was only going for the achievement anyway

Gift Stopper Advice

If you are having issues with this please do the following, at the start of the game or later on, please choose the Sling Shot for range dps abilities.

When you start hunting people, please do the following, get as close as you with the Christmas present holder, about 100 meters should be enough.

Please press #5 [Snow Blind] ability, which makes you invised.

Please Press and HOLD #4 to fully charge [Sniper Shot] ability, this will automatically will take off 80% of a targets health while invised.

Please make sure #1 ability has auto attack on, this is not active on any of the profession chosen and has to be manually turned on every time.

This will give your Gift Stopper achievement done in less than 35 minutes. Enjoy!

Be a scout, go invisible, get close to them, fully charge the sniper shot and then nuke them down, was easy for me.

Kitten sucks. Can’t wait to never look back at it.

Agreed. Teamwork is worth nothing. With the achievements set up to be so individual why even bother having teams? Its frustrating to help your side to victory over and over and yet have no achievement to show for it. They might as well just make it a free-for-all.

I usually hang out by where gift spawns. It is impossible to hang out at area b4 he drops gifts cuz there will be like 4 guys protecting them now.
