Have you raged a little too early? A call for patience.
I’m not outraged. I’m irritated and disappointed about the festive minipets. Those are a different set than the Tixx minipets which are being added to the TP. Please stop confusing them.
At this point the only viable thing for ANet to do is make the RNG pets tradeable. Adding a minipack / selling them individually from the gem store will simply tick off all the people who already bought boxes no end. I honestly don’t know why the pets weren’t tradeable, ANet had to know this was going to be an issue.
What’s to say, that by the end of event, they won’t all be available for sale? You’re jumping to conclusions before the end of the event.

Because everybody wants to spend thousands of gems on boxes just to see the pets in the store for 300-400 gem each, right? Makes total sense, nothing to be angry about. The minipet part of the event is beyond recover. Spare for some heavy roll backs, there is absolutely nothing ANet can do to fix it.
What I do see, is a company with low customer loyalty up do to anything to take advantage of christmas time cash flow. I do not like this blatant money grabbing.
I mean, 6 bucks for a weapon skin? Thanks for the charity work there.
First, they are raging about the following:
- 9 Pets
- 5 Craftable – but you can only craft 2, and the other 3 will cost you 1050 gems
- 4 from Wintersday Mystery Box - You can craft 1 of them using 3 of the others
So, at minimum you have to spend 1450 gems just to get 7 of the 9 pets. At most, you could spend a infinite number of gems and never get 4 of them due to RNG and the mystery boxes not dropping any pets.
I’ve never been a fan of the way Anet is handling mini’s in GW2. I don’t like that you have to spend gems to get a random set of 3 for the regular mini’s. I didn’t like that you had to spend 1000 gems just to get all 4 of the Halloween mini’s. This is just further icing on the cake.

That’s hardly ANet’s fault though, just because some people wanted to obtain everything as soon as it came out. This programme of rolling everything out was probably the way they always intended to do things. Just because some people had to have them straight away has nothing to do with ANet.
I’m not saying it’s guaranteed, I’m just saying that people are flaming way before the event is up and if they jumped the gun then they only have themselves to blame.
Parts of the game, namely cosmetic items such as minipets and town clothes have always been very much cash shop items. People complain about it, but it’s a fantastic game and provides as much/more content than subscription MMOs. Minipets in GW1 largely started as part of players 1st birthdays, 1 year into the game, and that could still happen. I guess I’m just not understanding why people are surprised…

The new marketing idea is “lets sell them the least amount of content we can for the most amount of money.” What’s the best way to do this? Take advantage of player behavior, ie: the collector, and place highly demanded items into an RNG.
Sounds great on paper, but sometimes people forget that they are dealing with people here who don’t, on average, like seeing a whole days’ wages go down the tube. Despite what some corporate businessmen might believe, we aren’t idiotic robots that throw money at things without due compensation.
Also, no one is saying that this is a bad game; far from it to be exact. But, this type of continued money grabbing is vitriolic to healthy player-company interactions.

Cynicism to the max. And to be frank, that’s the same operating strategy ANY company will run. The difference is, GW2 is offering huge amounts of content for FREE, before any of the optional extras which you’re charged for.
From reading a majority of “complaint” threads in this forum, I think people aren’t so much “raging” at the minis as a whole. What the majority of the complaints stem from is the poor implementation of the lottery boxes (worst thing ever to come from the F2P MMO movement – shakes fist at PWI & NCSoft )
Dropping the limited edition Minis in a RNG lottery box is nothing but a blatant cash grab aimed at the innate weakness of voracious players. It’s a predatory move. And sadly, it’s working and has been working. Otherwise they wouldn’t pursue the RNG lottery box trend so intently.
Those minis should have simply been put into a mini pack like they were during the Halloween event.
We could still burn that pack if we wanted the santa quaggan, but at least we could do it in one guaranteed purchase instead of another pay-grind.

Being cynical is the only way you can avoid being ripped off. If you aren’t cynical in certain respects nowadays you look like a tool.
To be fair, I payed $80 for this free experience and if I see the game is growing in the direction I feel is appropriate, I will gladly give them money through the gem store.
What I don’t want, however, is for arena net to think that players will take money grabbing laying down. I’m all for supporting a company through vanity store purchases but, in my humble opinion, I think arena net has taken it a little too far too quick.
I don’t want to see a game I really truly love be condemned in my eyes for over the top money grabbing. I still have great respect for anyone who can argue a point, so I won’t be one to throw out nasty remarks towards players.

My thoughts exactly. The root of this problem seems to stem from the fact that this seems like a predatory move that takes advantage of a player’s core. Some collectors view this as a company being disloyal to them. To those who don’t think anything of cosmetics, or the basic ideal behind this concern, they view dissenters as having a false claim.

It seems that way. People like to rage and complain, why wait and see if Arena Net changes anything before the end of the event? By buying now, they garuntee that they have something else to rage about later if Arena Net makes them easier to get. People love to rage.
PS: Stop exaggerating, there are plenty of changes ArenaNet could make, but no matter what they do, people will find something to rage about, because that’s just what some people have to do.
Ask yourself this. If no one “raged” on the forums, do you think anything would ever get changed?
Spent ~1,6k gems on boxes – got 1 mini… Will continue to spend gems till I get all of them to forge the Quaggan… because… I… WANT… one…. so… badly.

Only 3200 gems to go! I can’t imagine why people are complaining, by those odds it’s only $60 for one mini! What a steal!
I spent $30 and got myself some awesome vendor stuffers.
We know one thing and one thing only.
We know that, after five days, you’ll be able to make two of the minipets.
We have no idea whether or not we’ll be able to get more cogs after those five days however, do we? Maybe Toypocalypse has some as a reward, we don’t know. It’s premature to get freaky, and even when we know for sure it’ll still be wierd to see people getting freaky.
People don’t love to rage. People like to feel that they got their money’s worth out of something. And dropping $60+ on minis only to not actually get anything isn’t exactly getting your money’s worth out of something when someone else spent $10 and got 3 minis. Adding insult to injury is the fact you can’t trade with people who got minis.
Waiting to add the minis for sale after a while is a dirty move, too. It would be one thing to add the box and say “these minis will be available for direct purchase at the gem store later” – then people make a conscious choice to try and get everything right away or wait until later. As it is, people are buying boxes on the premise that these minis will not be available in any other way. Adding them later is just giving the people who already spent a lot of money on chance the middle finger.
The sad thing is that they know that they’ll make a significant profit off people who HAVE to have all these vanity items……

I still think they’d make more money overall if the minis were tradable. People who want them and can afford to buy them would, as they are now, and more people would buy them to sell on the TP to those who can’t, while at the moment those sales are just being missed.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
So sick of people like the OP, all high and mighty “rage too soon did you? hmm?” (read in as smug a voice as you can muster). What they forget is that the rage/whatever you want to call it, was never about the minis you get ingame via Tixx( the toys).
Every thread I have read on the mini-gate saga that has been close to raging has been about the FESTIVE mini’s IE… the Snowman, Golem, Infiniarium(sp?) and Foostivoo. How they are linked to the cash shops RNG via lotto boxes and that to add insult to injury they are account bound.
The only people who keep the confusion going are people like the OP who either intentionally or not (i doubt the not part) get it wrong or are just trolling for the lulz.

Name one way they could change the minis that won’t screw players over. Just one. Note: current system is:
- 3 minis in RNG box, 4th crafted with those 3
- 2/5 minis from dungeon, 5/5 minis in gem store for 350 gems
