I’m very disappointed in the event for this reason… I bought $30 in gems to buy the random gift boxes in the store. It tells me I can get skins, minis, and other items. I open my 30 boxes and what do I up with? Two flying golem minis (account bound, so I can’t trade one for another holiday mini, like the quaggan), a bunch of useless elixirs, holiday costume brawls mortars (more useless than the elixirs), and a small amount of ugly sweaters I can get every where. I love Christmas holiday stuff normally and was very excited about this one. But for $30 I expected WAY MORE! I would of rather bought the minis as a pack! Where is the food recipes? Gingerbread cookies, fruit cake, etc…. Where is the armor skins or armor sets like Mad King had? Maybe armor and food recipes are there and I don’t see them, so don’t blast me for it. I also paid more money for a longbow skin (finally something worth it). The random boxes ripped me off, hands down. I’m out $30 and nothing to show for it, except my 2 golem minis. I feel ripped off, where is my skins/minis?! Personally I’d like to return all that garbage and Anet send me something worth $30!

I understand your feeling. Personally, I bought 40 boxes.

First 30 boxes were crap, got 3 Infinirarium off it.

Last 10 boxes were just…

Pure bliss.

I got lucky, but still I find the price I paid for the 4 pets to be significantly more expensive than that of the Halloween pets.

I had the same issue with Halloween, I spent about sixty dollars in the cash shop and all I got was complete trash. I wish arenanet gave us more rewarding things in those boxes. They’re starting to get notorious for charging way too much

One thing haloween did do right was selling the mini’s in bulk in the store.

I spent 30 on gems.

Bought a weapon skin and a bunch of boxes. Ended up getting some dye, and 3 of the infiniarium mini. So I put 3 of them and 50 magical stuffing in the forge and got me a Foostivoo the Merry. All and all, I’m very impressed and think they did a great job!

So true, I bought 10 holiday boxes, and have no intention of buying any more… just because while I did get one of the mini’s from my 10 boxes, I am sure some weren’t that lucky and even then now if I get a duplicate there is nothing that can be done with it (well if you get more than 1 duplicate, since technically you would need 2 copies of each).

Just sounds as though the Black Lion Chests have evolved into gift boxes. Neither are worth the cost.

Have to say, I was excited at Halloween about the chests but after the terrible reports about their contents started to come in I was less so enthused. Lost Shore and now Wintersday has done nothing to bolster any interest I have in buying any chests or keys from the store at all. Unfortunately some people never learn and continue to buy these terrible boxes of RNG loot so ANet have close to no incentive to improve them.

These are just cosmetic extras that you don’t have to buy. I understand your frustration but your luck doesn’t make you a bad player. I’m sure you’re a great player. Next time just think of the boxes as a luxury item that you really don’t need.

Buy something else like the snazzy winter outfit. No luck needed there.

We as a species feel that we are lucky enough to get a great reward when truly we are statistically hindered from winning that great reward. Have some extra gems? Buy a box. If you don’t then try to understand that the chances of winning a good prize are low.

It is unfortunate, but judging by the way Anet is trying to influence players to purchase Black Lion Keys, and now these new gift boxes, they are hoping to make a tidy profit on them.

Usually, if you provide some value that your customers want, to items available to purchase, your profit line will take care of itself. I do not see this happening here. I only see a clumsy attempt to sell poor quality virtual items for real world money to make a profit.

The current offerings in the TP, although virtual items, do not appeal to me because they are not anything I want to have. What I do like, I cannot use on any of my characters due to limitations in professions. I am not a collector so a lot that is for sale, is not of interest to me.

Should this change, I will revisit the possibility of purchasing something that appeals to me.

I made a lot of noise after Halloween about festival weapons being an RNG game in chests. So I was happy so see they gave us the option to buy them this time outright.

I spent a bit on the mystery boxes with the left over gems I had from getting the skins I wanted and don’t think they were too bad. Probably opened 10-15 and ended up with four minis (golem ship, festive golem, 2x snowman), a token for any one of the weapon skins, the hat and earmuffs, a bunch of crafting recipes, and presents with snowflakes and ugly junk.

I would prefer they do away with the boxes altogether, but at least they are getting a little bit better at handling them. The recipe for super rare minis, that requires trashing other minis you already paid for, wouldn’t sting nearly as bad if none of them were account bound. I have two snow-men. That doesn’t temp me to keep buying boxes to get another set so I can have all 4. It just aggravates me that I can’t sell it and that people can’t trade around their duplicates.

Edit: I retract that criticism. Just found out it is not the same as halloween, which required one of each of the event minis. This one requires any combination of three to make the Quaggan.

They might not be the best way to spend your gems, but at least they aren’t the fiasco was the Halloween BLC.

I bought 30 boxes. Got 0 minis. Only ugly gifts, tonics, snowflakes, 2 bells, mortars and 3 dye packs. I learnt my lesson. I will never buy boxes/chests again. ^^

You got a golem mini,why complain ? You do understand,boxes are Gambling right,there is no way in hell that whenever you spent an XX amount of $$ you are Sure to get the item you want,its common knowledge sorry to say.
