How bout we not cater to vocal minorities

I did finish the clock tower, but this one took me at least a few tries and I couldn’t just farm it over and over. I consider myself slightly above average at jumping puzzles so I think this difficulty level if pretty good. You must just be THAT amazing!

The first few attempts can be difficult, but once you get the paths down then there isn’t much to it.
I understand what you’re saying. I guess my point was that even knowing the paths won’t compensate for the average level of coordination. While its easy for some of you, medium for me, it’s very hard for others. The goal is to balance this correctly so that it’s at the appropriate difficulty level. For example, doable by 70% of people as opposed to 10% of people.
And who would the “vocal minority” be? You and the other 4 who thought the puzzle was too easy or me and the other 40 who thought it is a -beep-?

Uh… the people who are saying it is easy by far out number those who are saying it’s hard.
And this jumping puzzle is easy. I would go as far as saying it’s one of the easiest puzzles in the game.

Where do you get your statistic from? Care to provide the source?
I’ll bite.
I spent 9 hours (4 of them were drunk, 1 of them quite wasted) on Clock Tower before I finally got it. I’m a pretty bad jumper, generally, but I’m a stubborn kitten, so I have completed most of the in game JPs out of sheer bullheadedness. I guess you would consider me one of the “bad” people in your case.
This puzzle is moderate to easy, to me. It took me around an hour and a half (remember, really, really bad jumper). The timing was more difficult than the jumping itself, I died several times within the first 10 tries on the last few blue boxes because I ran out of health. Would I say it’s too easy? No. I’d say 40% won’t complete it because they’ll either give up or be somewhat worse than I was, and 50% will complete it within their first hour. 10% will complete it first few tries, and that’s fine. 1% of that 10% will go on forum and complain about how easy it was.
Clock Tower was a mess. It was FAR from a minority of people who thought it was too hard. I have nightmares about the 2nd gear, you remember the one. Unless you’re stubborn as me, drunk, or a mix of the two, most people who are not JP experts did not do it at all. I’d say less than 10% of the members in my guilds completed it. And many who completed it had advantage of speed traits or atunement bonuses. This puzzle thankfully nullifies that.
In any case, I found this puzzle enjoyable and beautiful, though on the easier side. Time wise it took a nub like me about the same time as one of the harder World JPs. Would have been nice if we could costume brawl instead of just throwing snowballs but I understand that might have caused unfair skill usage.

I’ll provide the same source for my argument that you did for yours.

Well, my source is the same source OP used for his statement. Or did you forget that I wasn’t the one who started the “vocal minority” bullbeep? It’s sort of in the topic title and all…

The majority are the people who aren’t saying anything. How do you know what they think ?
It’s a more inclusive event – which in the spirit of the holidays, I think works just fine

Go look in the other threads about the puzzle. Most people are saying it’s far easier than the clock tower.

Easier, yes. Too easy and mad at ANet for it? You.

Different difficulty levels is probably the way to go in the future, with different tiers of rewards.
I really like the Clocktower, even though it took over an hour to complete it at first. This new JP is far too easy for my tastes. I re-ran the Clocktower for fun many times, but I don’t think I’ll be doing the same with this one.
I have to agree with the OP… This JP was just way too easy for those who enjoyed the Mad Kings tower.
I completed it on the first try without even knowing where to go or what to do.
Anet should make few different difficulty levels for these puzzles. Something to cater every need.
The different difficulties for puzzles is an excellent idea, provided that they don’t create an achievement for each. Just the one singular achievement to keep people from complaining.
The difficulty level thing could be applied to the current puzzle by making the degen differ on each level, so they wouldn’t have to rework each holiday puzzle, either.
But I’d have to agree, in comparison to pretty much every other jumping puzzle in the game, this one is much too easy. I would’ve added more of those wind snowmen alongside the snowflake platforms if I wanted to make it difficult.

Well said. This is a fantastic update. There will always be whiners like the OP, but for everyone else this is fun.

I’m mad at anet for it? What? Where did you get that? I’m rather indifferent to it’s difficulty all things considered.

The clocktower had a hard mode at least (the chests along the way).
Unfortunately, they also made the exit a simple portal out, rather than a NPC with choices. The NPC in the clocktower could be used to instance hop, allowing you to find an instance where you didn’t have to wait out the timer.

I’m mad at anet for it? What? Where did you get that? I’m perfectly fine with it being the easy. I do not believe I have stated anywhere my opinion on the jumping puzzle other than saying it’s easy. No where have I said it should be harder.
My apologies, I mistook you for the OP.

honestly, not everyone is good at jumping.
it is a general rule of thumb that females are worse at things that require spacial awareness, navigation and overall depth perception. this is where all the “women can’t park a car” jokes are coming from.
of course, not every woman is bad at it – a big part of human population has mosaic brain patterns meaning that some brain parts are either “male” or “female” regardless of your actual gender. However, it’s statistically big enough to make an impact.. anyway, lets not get into biology here. lets go back to the point.
i, as a female, find jumping puzzles hard. i find it difficult to measure the distances and depth in this game, and adding timed platforms makes my life twice as difficult.
so, should i be punished for it? why? why don’t i deserve to have fun just like anyone else?
that being said i have completed a major part of jumping puzzles in gw2. even some timed ones… but this one is giving me a headache. as an asura i will often get stuck or bump my head into an edge of upper platform and fall down… 20 tries now. i guess i’ll try it tomorrow….
I spent 3 days in Clock Tower and every time it was fun and challenging. Beating it was SO satisfying. Getting better, looting all chests, making challenges…
But after 3 hours in new one I can’t even force myself continue to farm. Too boring.

When you say ‘most’ do you mean 51%, 99%, or something else ?
Not that the number would be useful. People posting on the forums are only a minority of the GW2 player base. The majority of players are silent. How do you know what they think ?

It’s the old “they say nothing therefore they implicitly agree with me” excuse. It’s an easy way to convince yourself of all kinds of things.
The only people with a decent guess would be a.net and they’re not likely to say.
People on the forums are a vocal minority.
Therefore, Writetyper is asking for a, well, win/win situation?

What has happened to this place?
I don’t recognize it anymore.
It used to be so fun and special.
What is life worth living for?
The dream is dead, our land is gone;
There’s a hole in my heart and I can’t go on.
There are too many minorities (minorities)
In my jumping puzzles (my jumping puzzles).
This was our land, our dream (our dream)
and they’ve taken it all away.
They just keep coming and coming (minorities).
I tried to go and tell the Anet,
But even the developers
Are minorities
In my jumping puzzles…
The only people with a decent guess would be a.net and they’re not likely to say.
If you think about it…this one is easier than clock tower(doubt anybody would argue with that). Which suggests that the tower wasn’t exactly…successful or particularly popular…
PS: @the chick above…not “you, as a female”, sweetheart, just “you, as a person”.
Now, whether the jumping puzzle is easy or not, that’s another matter—- But some of us -can’t- even begin it. By the time it finishes loading during the screen, the first snow-flake platform melts and I cannot jump upon it, nor wait until it appears again because I’m thrown off by an explosion. >.>
At least if I had the chance to do this puzzle…
First of all, the puzzle is gorgeous! Simply a beautiful sight to behold. It took me several tries to complete it, & personally I think the difficulty is just right. That said, I feel locking too many players out of content during a limited time holiday event just to cater to those wanting more of a challenge seems a bit wrong.
I will agree though that multiple difficulties going forward would be a great idea.
I have not tried the new one yet so I cant comment on it. The Clock tower however took me several days to get. The first day I was so angry, I almost broke my mouse. I finally had to stop and take a karma break because I would have thrown my mouse through the window.
The second day I was getting better. I had a cooler head so it made it easier to focus on what I was doing but I just could not get through the last parts. That sideways cog……..@#$%
The third day is when things started to come together. I got past that @#$%&!* cog and after several more tries, I made it.
It was the happiest moment since I started playing GW2. The fact that is was so hard that I just could not stand it, is what makes it so great. While having an easy jumping puzzles is nice, I think that doing the hard ones and really working at it to figure it out and then finally completing them really gives you a new sense of accomplishment. I would gladly do another Mad king jumping puzzle just to have that feeling again. In this sense, I can understand what the original poster was trying to say.
