So we were told we can only craft 2 out of the 5 minis. So I have bought the other 3 for gems from the shop. Now everyone got an extra 250(+200 if you looted chest before) cogs.
I want 350 gems refunded.

The extra cogs are of no use to me, because I got all 5 minis already.

I also bought the extra three minis, but I really believe the extra cogs were to help those that got truly cheated from the dungeon and chest bugs.

That’s all.

Unfortunately, it’s like this: you buy an item at fully price, and a few hours later, they reduce the cost to half, you can’t go to customer service and ask for the difference in return.

Besides, I’m keeping those extra cogs for next year. You never know. . . .

My problem was I trusted the posting of the Anet employe we could only get 2 out of 5 for free.

Again, you were suppose to only get two. But, because of what happened with the chest and dungeon, some players didn’t get enough materials for even two.

So, this is how Anet fixed it. On top of all that, those that did get two . . . now have three AND two extra bags, extra weapons skins, and two PvP finishers that they otherwise wouldn’t have.

Everyone benefits.

That doesnt change the fact I wasted 350 gems and I want those back.

If you feel that strongly, feel free to contact customer service and air your grievances there. Use your ‘Ask a Question’ tab to do so.

That’s like saying that you bought 3 packs of Skittles and one day, the company gives one for free for everyone and you come back complaining that you didn’t know they will give out one for free and ask for a refund. Sorry, doesn’t make any sense

My advice, Malediktus, would be to leave the gem store well alone until Anet can sort all the issues they keep having. With buggy events and ridiculous exchange rates, it’s really not worth you wasting your money. If you really want items, do like you said and wait until the end of the event and get them last minute, otherwise you run a high risk of being disappointed.

Alternatively, you can realise that these items are completely optional, and therefore not worth spending real or in game money on, and just enjoy playing the game.

Yes it is your fault Maledictus. What’s disgusting for me is the fact that people feel like they are entitled to not make purchase mistakes and then cry about “loosing” 4 euros. Don’t think of it as being scammed, think of it that you enjoyed the benefits of having all of them earlier!

I look at it this way: lesson learned.

Before I spend another dime on items like this, I’ll wait until the very end to see if ‘the other shoe’ drops next time. Again, I don’t believe the ‘employee’ broke his or her word. I believe circumstances made this necessary.

If you’re unhappy, imagine the thousands of players who would’ve gotten only ONE pet for free instead of the two promised.

The cogs have a value of 2 silver per 200 and are now of no use to you (as you have all the pets), the gems wasted (due to the fact the free cogs could have been used instead) would have been worth over 5 gold.

The cogs had to be handed out due to people who suffered from Diminishing Returns. Also, we all knew a special ‘surprise’ was coming yesterday, and the Anet response was in a thread that was about the Wintersday dungeons. (not the entire event)

Can’t you just accept that and be happy for others? You can’t blame Anet for an additional surprise just because you decided to spend gems for it.

My advice is to attempt to send in a ticket and explain the situation, but I feel your response is out of proportion.

Again, I dont mind spending money, I probably spend over 100€ this month on the gem shop (without converting any gems to gold), but I do mind feeling cheated.

Malediktus, I don’t think you’re going to find anyone who sympathizes with you, because unfortunately this happens in the real world all the time.

Almost no retailers have anything where you can get a refund. I think the only one I’ve heard of is Best Buy (in the states), if you buy a tv for $1000 and then you see it for $900 in the same store, or other chain, within thirty days they’ll reduce the price. Walmart has a price match thing where they’ll match competitor’s sale prices at the point of purchase, but you can’t ask for a refund of the difference. Anet isn’t Best Buy or Walmart and has no price match promise. :P

It’s unfortunate the cogs do nothing for you, but if you don’t want or need them, just vendor them. They’re still worth a few silver. Or do what I’m doing and bank them. Next wintersday holiday maybe there’ll be more toys to make and I’ll have a cog headstart.

Well I would say contact the support and ask if you can get a refund even though I doubt u’ll get one. I can understnad it is not cool for you on the other hand I personally don’t see a way they could make everyone happy without a huuuge efford. If they wouldn’t give out more mats those who could not loot the chest would be very unhappy. Now those who already bought the minis are unhappy.

If you could not loot the chest the first time and they hadn’t given out another gift it would be way worse than having one double mini.

Feel free to contact customer service if you feel so cheated. If they refund your gems, I’m letting Anet know right now that everyone else will too.

Sorry dude, but what Arenanet said wasn’t a lie. It was stated that you would only be able to make 2 minis from completing the DUNGEONS all 5 days. —→ 2 <-- FROM THE DUNGEONS! They never said ANYTHING about not being able to get minis from any other way. I’m sorry, but it’s your own fault for not reading well enough.

Let’s see if everything had gone as planned, anet wouldn’t have needed to add cogs to the chest. They wouldn’t have had to send a mail as a fix for the chest and you would be out a good few items for free. Yeah I say stop acting like a brat.

Man people are so kitten spoiled. Do you guys try your best to make sure this company receives no money whatsoever? How about being happy that you supported a game that gives away free content like it’s going out of fashion. You lost a dollar or two and now you want a refund? Do you seriously not value your own time in any way? It seems like it since you like wasting it coming to complain on these forums about absolute kittenall.

- There was a problem with a DR bug in the wintersday events causing people to get less cogs.
- Some people were ACTUALLY cheated out of getting their 2 minis.
- Anet came up with a solution so people were NOT cheated.
- You got EXTRA stuff you were never supposed to get because of Anet’s solution.
- You come on here whining you got unexpected freebies too late.

Edt: For what it’s worth I have 5 minis, 5 tonics, and 450 spare cogs. I just realize I was NEVER SUPPOSED TO GET THE SPARE 450 COGS. I got them because Anet was trying to make it right for others (yes, there are other people in the world).

The exact quote you are referring to goes like this:

With the way that was worded, noone ever said that the cogs you got out of the first five days would be all the cogs you would be given. Ofcourse, the reason as it turns out now (from my understanding), was because a lot of people got cheated out of cogs. It was a quickfix.
However, this means that if you hadn’t encountered bugs, you got all this as extra free stuff. It wasn’t intended for you, but you still got it. Sell the cogs, it’s a whopping 2s for free, or keep them for next year. Who knows.

what are we talking about? 5 euro? if you go to a store and buy a chicken for 5 euro and one hour later the store decides to give a free chicken if you buy a chicken, you want refund too even after you ate your chicken already?

You would have had to buy the extra stuffing/glue one way or another to be able to craft more than just the first 2 pets. You got them via real life $, while others used gold to buy the glue/stuffing.

If that amount of real life $ you spent is breaking the bank then you should abstain from buying gems with real life $ and only use the currency exchange to turn gold into gems in the future.

Yeah it kind of sprang up out of nowhere but was expected since not everyone could get the Tixx chest reward in Lion’s Arch.

It should be noted that all the mini pets (both the cash shop and in-game ones) were not done by the team that did Wintersday (which is the same team from Halloween). The method of acquisition was 100% decided by the team that manages the gem store. The two of five post that is quoted a lot when it comes up is what he was told would be the final result of it at the time.

While your intent was helpful, he was being sarcastic. He recognizes he got value out of something at the time of purchase and that utility was unaffected by the decrease in price at a later date.

I know Anet is trying – but so often what happens in-game is not quite what they intended. Six weeks on and a DC in FotM means you have to start over…

You were supposed to get 2, you bought 3 which was intended, they fixed problems for players getting not enough cogs so they got 2 as well, sell your cog as the way you got your mini’s is the way it was intended in the first place!

Well, Anet doesnt owe you anything. Its never stated you absolutely could not get more then 2 from dungeons. In the future, treat these events like Steam Sales. Wait for a daily deal, if not then buy at the last day so you dont miss out on a better deal. Or buy if you absolutely must have it now, and run the risk of seeing it up cheaper later on.

Well, Anet doesnt owe you anything. Its never stated you absolutely could not get more then 2 from dungeons. In the future, treat these events like Steam Sales. In an interview they did before Tixx hit Lion’s Arch it was stated that it is something decided by the commerce team, and that at the time the final word was only two pets from the event period. It was considered an opportunity to purchase them and since they were giving this event for free it would be nice if they could show some love and buy them as support for the hard work everyone put in.

That was of course before the compensation cogs from Tixx’s chest (which was also mentioned in said interview) broke and didn’t give them to the people who needed them.

I made my two minis, bought a third from gemstore.
Frames became available on vendor, I made three tonics.

Tixx gives out another set of cogs, I don’t want the other minis, and I’d already spent on the one I did want.

Who cares? It was only 350 gems. That’s less than $5 if you want to complain about real money. I got other stuff from this event too, not the last of which was some enjoyment. If you want to argue that the company tricked me into paying $5+ for it, well I probably got more entertainment out of it than a matinee movie.

No one starved because of this FREEBIE (and if you did, you need to evaluate your priorities), and demanding for what <$5 refund is beyond me. Make another mini for your alt, okay?

Probably would have been nice if they added them as an alternative currency to ugly clothing. (hear me out)
Even if you played the system legit and got the two or three minis (three if you capitalized off this mayhem) you would end up with anywhere between 50-150 cogs left. Maybe a conversion ratio of 25 cogs per 50 Ugly Clothing o.O Wouldn’t really be that game breaking either in essence. Just a random idea
