On the Guild Wars 2 Database website, it shows that a Miniature Wintersday Trio was added, just like the one from Halloween, does anyone know whether they are actually going to be added? Or I have to rely on gambling with RNG’s?

That item was in the database before Wintersday fully kicked off. It will end up much like the Lost Shores trio box and never be used. It was most likely put in there before the gem store team had finalized how they wanted everything to be obtained.

Hmm true. But I was thinking that it might be differant this time, I thought they made the Lost Shores Trio not buyable with Gems, because they were tradeable and people could easily pay for gold cheaper than converting Gems. So I thought it might be different for the Wintersday Trio as they are no tradeable.

That is a lousy attitude to have, I’ve spent plenty of money to obtain these mini-pets and if they added a mini-pet trio I would be pleased. There is something wrong with this system for acquiring these mini-pets and if they fix it I don’t think anyone should complain. It would just mean that you won’t have to shell out 75$ on mini-pets for the next event.

Maybe it’ll be for the three minis that you still can’t buy yet? That would be cool.

I have shelled that out so far, only to watch people with better luck get more minis with fewer boxes.

A trio needs to be added simple as that. Its not in good tastes to not allow collectors to buy, collectibles either from other players or from the Gem Shop.

This is the first time I have lost faith in ANet and honestly if they dont find a better option to provide them(extra Cogs) it would push me a little further from this game, everything else I could roll with, but when I open 100 Boxes and get 4 minis and never the Snowman, and to watch a guild member get 3 of each type in 30 boxes.

I think he meant that those users who spent $70-100 USD to get them the legit way would be kitten the fk off because some one who didn’t invest anything or barely anything would get them for about $10-$20 with 100% guarantee. If that is the case then i am 100% on his side.

Further note, if the trio is added to the gem store I demand a full refund on gems and gold spent after the value spent on said minis has been deducted from the refund cost. After all it would only be “fair” as these kids like to say.

That is indeed what I am talking about. It has popped up before on this sub-forum (adding a way to just straight up buy these pets now after the fact) and there’s been a bit of back and forth between the people who have dropped the $80+ and got them all, or didn’t get any and the ones who haven’t spent a dime but would if they added the set.

I would prefer if they had put it in when Wintersday first started, or the day after. That way there wouldn’t have been as much of a chance for any backlash from people who thought the RNG box was the only way to get them and thus emptied their wallets on it. I wouldn’t mind if they did add it in now, but if you thought the complaining was bad now from one side of the fence it would be a lot worse from the other if they add it a week after stating the only method to obtain those pets was from the RNG box.

The commerce team is trying to find that perfect balance to please everyone while still providing a sustaining business model for GW2. They look at the feedback and think of how to find a solution for the next event. It’s too late for Wintersday but let them know for January / February that you do not want a RNG only method of acquisition.

I bought 80 boxes for my minis, no thanks to adding this at this point.

You guys are both missing the point, I spent around 60$ – 75$ on these mini-pets, I’m not entitled to be mad if they fixed this. You’re basically saying that you’d rather continue to pay 100$ for these mini-pets on each event for the next 5 years, than to pay 10$ and look the other way this time for the sake of saving money later? That is incredibly selfish and I’m honestly blown away that you think you’re entitled to a refund.

How would that make more people happy, a lot of people I know already have the trio or already bought a ton of boxes for the wintersday quag. Adding a cheaper 100% guarantee would just kitten them off.

Ya anet will make more money but they sure as hell would be getting flamed way beyond imagination by those who played their system legit and fairly. Quit asking for hand outs when everyone else played the game legit. Only logical change they can make now is to make the minis sellable. But even then that would cheapen them and then you kids will cry that people have a monopoly on them.

Wolfey you obviously don’t understand what I’m saying. It wouldn’t be political suicide either, by your logic ArenaNet should have gone under when they gave us 250 extra mystical cogs and more frames after selling Tixx’s mini-pets on the gem store.

We are not talking about cogs and frames, those minis have no relationship to the minis that are being discussed. That would be like comparing Wintersday Great Sword with Dusk.

Ya they are both great swords, but are acquired and are collected for different purposes.

By your logic, anet should give everyone free Legendaries out of Tixxs box since they did precursors out of the Karka event (yes that is the exact lateral translation of what you are purposing)

Note: Anet gave the extra cogs out because some users got royally screwed by the individual events and couldn’t obtain them (legit anet error via scripts), instead of wasting 3-4 weeks of reading tickets and logs (look back at karka event how long it took them to fix that mess) they just did a batch hand out to make up for it.

By your logic, paying for things isn’t doing anything, which means… you didn’t do anything to get the minis, either, so you shouldn’t have a problem with this.

See where the problem with that logic is?

Spending money/gold/gems is doing something to get things – I mean, that’s how you got the minis. You just don’t want other people getting them for less than what you had to spend. Which is a completely valid way to feel (although the RNG method invariably means some people will have paid less than you for the same amount of minis), and I agree that the only solution that wouldn’t cause too much backlash would be remove the account bound factor. That way people could still spend money – via gems to gold conversion – on them.

How does this have anything to do with legendaries? I don’t think ArenaNet should give out legendaries, I think that ArenaNet should make mini-pets available in the gem store without “RNG.” If I think that then obviously those things aren’t similar in any circumstance.

Also you think the people who spent 80$ on mini-pets would be upset if ArenaNet released them for 10$, how about the people who spent 100$ and still only have one of the pets and refuse to spend anymore? Do you think they’re kitten off?

I’m still trying to figure out the leap of logic required to go from your point to “you want free legendaries / handouts” considering nowhere in your post was that even implied.

Your point was that the current method of acquisition is not very healthy or well thought out for the player base, and a different solution should be implemented that would not only ease the pain on wallets but also potentially attract more of the collectors to pay / keep paying for future sets.

I wholly agree! A different option to obtain those RNG pets should have been added. The disconnect is when we think it should be added. You suggest for it now, I suggest for it for the next event and onwards. You and some of the others are the type of people that know what you are getting into and would be willing to accept the consequences of anything done to fix things. That’s a good thing but that type of mentality isn’t that wide spread (as evident by Mystical CogGate).

I never stated that people should get refunds, or that they should keep this method of acquisition. I was saying that adding another way to get the pets this late into the event would create a lack of trust from various people. Sure, there will be those of us who knew beforehand what we were possibly getting into and that a welcome change to the system would be appreciated. There is also a bunch that would lose respect and trust for the game though.

Think about it, if you were someone who spent $60+ and got all of the mini pets because it was stated the only way to obtain them was via this box and then a week later they introduced a trio and for $10 you could obtain the same result would you be willing to pay for minis again? Well, you might, but some people wouldn’t touch it again. Their trust that the commerce team would not have gone back on their word for this event would have been broken.

Unfortunately the best solution for this event in this year is to keep it as it is and for the next one (January / February was it?) do not do it again. Also for next year do not even think of bringing it back, just bring a trio pack right from the get go. The commerce team has been made well aware that this method is not popular, via various methods of communication.

The best solution is to make them tradable. The ones that spend money are happy, because they can get rid of duplicates. Other players are happy since they don’t have to gamble to get the mini’s…

Problem solved. Just to bad Anet is not doing anything regarding these mini’s and people complaining about the RNG at all. Not even a single reply of their thoughts or reasoning why they made it this way. That really disappoints me.

I agree that making them tradable would be the best solution. Those who spent a lot of money to get all the minis would be able to sell the duplicates and get at least something back. Those who spent what they could afford could swap the duplicates they’ve got for ones they missed out on and those who couldn’t/wouldn’t gamble at all can get the minis from those who did.

It’s not a perfect solution but I think at this point it’s the best they can do to sort this mess out.

They already did that by putting casino gambling in the gemstore at christmas time in the first place. Anet are scum in my book now.

I’ve been wanting this for the entire Wintersday. Just some confirmation. We know they read these topics and are well aware, but they simply refuse to comment. I’m very disappointed.

You don’t think spending 75$ in the gem store and getting one mini-pet is back stabbing their paying customers?

I think the best option for them at this point is simply for them to make the minis unbound. Then we can buy them in game, and the people who spent a lot of money and got duplicates can get back some gold at least.

It’s not a good solution, just the one that I think will tick off the fewest people at this point. Going forward, definitely need to have a reliable way to get minis. If they’re so stuck on gamble boxes, put tickets in every gamble box as well as having a drop chance not lower than the Wintersday drop chance so that people who open a certain number can at least get a mini even if RNG luck is bad.
