The boxes will be worthless 99% of the time, don’t waste your gold

I got 4 with gold. Got 2 – 5 (only got 5 once) varying in gifts. And reindeer tonics, and 1 dye set.

Sadly seems about right, entirely random.

I don’t think that’s fair imo. I at least deserve something worth it. Why Anet? Feeling really disappointed…

ive spent well over 300 dollars in the shop over 4 months. I dont mind spending money on the game, however, it infuriates me to feel like im being raked over the coals for more and more cash through RNG.

At some point i will just get fed up and quit this kitten.

My 75$ spent on your game a month through non RNG purchases isnt enough for you Anet>????

I can earn a dollar in 2 minutes. It takes me too long for 100gems.

Once again, there are many free sections of the event. The paid part is totally optional

That’s an unfair thing to say. Don’t blame ArenaNet or the game for greedy player and elitist individuals cut-throating events that are meant for fun. They have to profit off the event somehow, you know. rolls eyes

100 gems cost $1.25. By your own maths, it takes you 2.5 minutes to earn that.

Minis do not make your character stronger or contribute to your success in the game. It’s also the first day of the event.

It kills me….Why don’t people just wait? The event runs till January 3rd. You can learn from what other people post on the forums. I wait see how it goes buy what I can off the TP and call it a day. You can get what you want with exception of the pet from the TP…..I do feel bad for pet collectors, but thankfully I have zero pets. I like weapon skins

The real mystery is why people haven’t learned from the 2 previous events . . . chests have always been and will always be a crapshoot gamble.

I learned from the Halloween event how these chests work. Never again.

Well I’m definitely not buying anything that has to do with gamble. So stop and think is it really worth your money? I don’t think so

Blame the drug dealer or the addict? Anet didn’t have to include gambling via RNG with cash items, responsibility is at their door for providing the option. Responsibility is up to the individual regarding buying them. I don’t agree with RNG cash items, it’s bad for the consumer (odds against you getting what you want), it’s also feeding in to that buzz of gambling. Don’t support it, won’t buy them, won’t give Anet any more money while they continue these shenanigans . I do want to support Anet, the majority of the game is superb, I have supported in the past would like to in the future.

Let’s make it clear for new players and people who haven’t been paying attention.

The chests from the gem store are a sucker bet. The odds are against you getting something awesome, and you should only buy them with the understanding that you are wasting your money.

It doesn’t bother me that they are in game because I will only ever buy one when I feel like wasting some money (aka never).

Yea, these things really need to lose the account bound modifier.

These Mystery boxes are stupid. I bought 10 just to try it (never again).
So much was made right with this Wintersday update, I don’t understand why the mini-pets are still stuck in kitten event RNG boxes.

I wish ANet would fix this… now.

I just want the permanent hair changing kit. I’m a woman, I like changing my character’s hair, this kit is so ideal for me. If they made it available in the gem store, for even 2000 gems, I’d buy it. >_<

I kicked around the idea of random chance with the box and picked one up with the last of my gems.

Not to say I’m surprised or anything, but it’s too random to spend real money on.

I bought quite a few on halloween and I’ll never spend that kind of money again. I bought one for wintersday with the leftover gems just for fun but that’s all I’m doing. It’s a big waste of money.

I bought 10 and they contained very little.. I was hoping for a minipet. Not one out of the ten I got gave anything that I couldn’t already get for 5s on the trading post. I’m bummed :/ 20 ingame gold for nothing. I could have used a bag slot.

Behind every cute little quaggan minipet stands a brilliant businessman apparently.

My friend bought 4, he got the permanent hair kit from the first one.

…Then again, this is the same guy whose first ever drop was an abyss dye from a river drake in Queensdale.

I shouldn’t feel like it, but it’s stuff like this that makes me want to quit.

The RNG boxes, instead of being the only way to obtain something, should instead be the cheaper, chancy way to get something. Everything that’s in these boxes should otherwise be obtainable plainly with a set amount of gems.

If folks are in a gambling mood, they could spend a little less gems and get an RNG box in the hope of getting an item for less than regular cost. But there should always be a direct option to purchase all of these Holiday items.

I really like the way they went with the skins (though the gem ones are maybe a bit too high in price; maybe 300 gems seems more reasonable than 500). If I could just plunk down 500 gems for the minis I’d be a very happy camper. But I refuse to buy any more of these mystery boxes after I got the exact same things as the OP in my single box. (2 Reindeer Tonics, 2 Gifts that each resulted in an Ugly Wool Sock.)

I don’t use my credit card to buy things for a game. That’s silly. Whatever money I make is automatically added to savings.

I spent most of my gems on the mystery box bought 6 of 10 set each and I only got 2 freakin mini’s! TWO was feeling down after seeing how my guildie got 3 mini’s after 20 boxes and I got mostly junk luckily I was able to get the permanent hairstyle thing and sold it to get back the gems I used

got mini golem and mini snowman from a total of 3 boxes. Sometimes you’re lucky sometimes you’re not. I’d like to get that perm hairstyle gratz on that shoiba.

We had a 5 page thread on how over powered deer are, now you can get deer form from the boxes, awesome pop a tonic and go solo Jormag

Got 10 boxes (I keep one of each unique box in my inventory since Halloween – have a Mad King’s Chest, a Consortium Chest and now a Wintersday Box). Opened 9 boxes.

Got:

21 Personalized Wintersday Gifts
6 Reindeer Tonics
2 Snowman Tonics
2 Festive Golem Tonics
2 Wintersday Dye Kits
1 Festive Hat
1 Mini Festive Golem

I used one dye kit (keeping the other) and got a Wrath Dye and a Lime Breeze Dye.

Now, assuming my luck (or lack thereof) held up, I’d need at least $60 to get all 3 minis (the 3 plus 3 more for Quaggan) which seems extremely excessive. If I got unlucky I could just not get more minis or get a bunch of repeat Festive Golems (and none of the other two). I’d also have no use for extra Festive Hats since they’re account bound.

I’m almost out of bank space and I’m not willing to gamble for the other minis. Considering exchanging the rest of my gems for gold and getting a couple of unique minis from the Lost Shores event, since I’m guessing the Wintersday minis will be back again next year.

Ripoff Ripoff Ripoff. 7×10 boxes = 3x Golem Minipet. I know I’m an idiot for gambling, but according to 5-15% chance, I should have had 7 pets by now. Yes, I know – still RNG, still fool for counting on numbers. Still – I’m a collector to when it comes to minis (the unique ones) and I will never forgive Anet for doing this to my wallet (both ingame and out). Not gambling on kitten boxes ever again. Way to scare off paying (yes I am one of those) costumers Anet! This means I’m not buying any more gems with irl money.

Think yourselves lucky, I spent 40gold and £25 for gems.. bought over 100 boxes in one go (yes it was very stupid) I worked out that for every 2gold I got 2 socks and 2 tonics. Seriously .. I love this game, but.. Urgh.. not rage, just an overwhelming sadness. I feel like an idiot for buying them

I agree with the total rip off. So far I have spent 40$ for getting 40 boxes and out of it only came 3 mini snowmen. Seriously, Why the account bound? This does not seem like an honest business at all. Or at least, Anet could make the drop rate way higher. Very disappointed.

I don’t mind buying maybe ONE box when I’m bored and opening it out of curiosity what might be in there. But buying loads of them just because I definitely want the jackpot seems strange for me.

All these boxes are pretty much the same in EVERY game that has a cash shop and similar items. The only way to force a developer to stop using these types of things is to stop buying them. All the time people are spending money on them, we’ll continue to see them.

I personally consider them a rip off so would never spend money on them. Even the standard Black Lion Chests stack up in my bank until I get a few keys from drops or zone completion. I would never spend money on keys from the gem store, the chances of getting anything decent is so small, it’s just not worth it.
