Mystical Cogs
it has been stated from day 1 you can only get 2 ,
so what is that you wanted?
Haha, posting first in my own thread. I just wanted to add, I feel the earmuffs are very reasonably priced in terms of gems.
I hadn’t really looked that hard because I just took it as a given that I could get all 5 through the dungeons.
Thanks for reading through and replying by the way, felt I might have been waffling when I was typing that, haha.
I learned this only today, too, Nec. Wherever it was that they announced about only making 2 pets, I’d missed it. And I’m disappointed, too. I know I can purchase the rest in the store, but I would have preferred to get the remaining 3 minis simply by playing the game and using the 3 toy frames I’d already earned. Oh, well. That was a nice idea that just isn’t going to work.
I find it interesting that people get so mad about not being able to automatically get the minis. Did you guys really play GW1?
Because in GW1, the only way you could get a lot of these minis was either shopping around (and they cost an insane amount) or else sacrificing a whole herd of goats to the gods of the RNG.
Here you’re being given two minis for free, items which (I may add) have absolutely no bearing on your game play, and you’re complaining?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
Exactly Celtic, thank you. It’s no where near on as big a scale, but I feel just like when I got to the end of ME3, haha.
You’re right kitten. I know it has no impact on gameplay, it just irks that OCD part of me. I don’t feel there statements that I saw were very well worded (because I completely mistook their meaning) and with them saying about changing how things were done I thought they might make the game so you can achieve with hard work.
I’m not saying it should be easy, just doable without gems.
I’ve been talking with players in game to see how many knew from day one of the festival about the mini limit and the majority of them didn’t know about it. They assumed, like I did, that having received 5 specific frames meant we’d be able to craft with those frames. It’s a logical assumption even if it turned out to be incorrect.
Being disappointed isn’t the same as being mad, either. I love the people that respond to this issue by accusing us of hating the entire festival and being ungrateful for the free minis. I don’t really spend much time on any forums, so perhaps I just don’t understand that having a discussion involving an opinion on the other side of positive is a foreign concept for some people.
Yeah, it just seems logical that we would use 5 frames to make 5 minis. You don’t think to search how many you can make because you just know, or at least think you do.
And yeah, I’m really enjoying the Wintersday event, I don’t hate it. I didn’t get the chance to be on the Halloween Event as much as I might have liked to so I’m relishing the chance now.
Yeah, we’re entitled to our opinions, I mean we’re not being horrible about it. And without people wanting change from GW1, and expressing there opinions, GW2 wouldn’t be how it is now. The exchange of opinions and ideas is what moves things forward. A man who wins an argument gains nothing.

is where its also stated,
as for the rng part
gw1 had a event ( mini polar) a mini that would drop only during wintersday ,
in the 7 years that event was held even with people farming 24/7 for that mini , it only dropped 4 times, getting 2 free mini’s is actually good.
the 3 remaining frames can be turned in everlasting tonics
What I’m curious about is what are the people who don’t want the mini’s supposed to do with these things? I’m sitting on 700, and I have absolutely no use for them. Can’t sell them because their account bound, can’t use them for anything else, though a recipe for the unbreakable bell would be great, and NPC’ing them seems like a waste even if I won’t use them.

if you didn’t wanted them why do to them at all >>

Because I used the frames for tonics, which in my opinion are much more useful/fun than the minis.
I have guild members that don’t collect things like minis or tonics and are in the same boat as you, Toast. When they heard I can’t make all five minis myself due to a lack of cogs, they would have loved to be able to give their items to myself and other members that like collecting. It would have made them feel good about the dungeon runs to be able to help their friends out, but with the whole account bound thing, they can’t.
I suppose I could keep my extra cogs and items and frames until next year in the hopes that another festival would allow me to craft 2 more minis and therefore add to my set from the previous year, but I hate to store stuff so long without knowing for sure this would even be possible.
“100 for first completion of Tixx’s Infinirarium each day during Wintersday 2012. If players take part in all 5 days, 500 Mystical Cogs will be obtained, enough to craft 2 of the 5 possible toy mini-pets.
Another 200 Mystical Cogs can be obtained from Tixx in Lion’s Arch.”
I know what you mean, but it doesn’t state you can only get cogs for the first 5 days or any first post tour run through of the dungeon. In fact I would say the bit in bold really confuses me, because doesn’t Wintersday run from the 14th of December to the 3rd of January? So 21 days worth of possible 100 cogs? I assumed you could earn extra than what was needed (1250 cogs to get all 5 toy minis) so that people who might be busy and not be able to get on one day for whatever reason, and it’s Christmas so there will be plenty of reasons, will have a chance to get what they need.
I’m also pretty disappointed. I mean, why even tempt us by giving out 200? do they want to make sure that everyone would just have to run the Tixx Event once? If so, why not 150?
200 just feels like a taunt. Id like to get the mere 50 cogs it would take to get a 3rd, but I guess that seems unlikely now. However, it would be a nice Wintersday Surprise! -nudge nudge hint hint-
lol I agree, Oni. Someone said that the 200 cogs were for people that experienced a bug, but since I had no bug problems, the extra 200 cogs are simply something I get to destroy unless I decide to store them in my already full vault.
If you want to have all 5, you’ll have to buy them, that’s all there is to it. They have to make money somehow. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. 2 out of 5 is enough for most people to be satisfied, because the majority will really only have 1-3 that they really like anyway. Again, Arena Net has to make money somehow, be thankful there aren’t any pay-to-win type things on the gem store and that the prices aren’t outrageous like some other games out there. We can’t really complain about something this small when we don’t have a subscription fee and can play the game for years without putting a single dime into the gem store if we don’t want to.

Yeah, limited storage space already makes me not want to hold onto them even more. Even if I did want the minis, I’d still have to spend another 3g+ to get the frames and glue/stuffing again, so that makes it even more unappealing. Really wish we had another alternative use of cogs, would have made sense to do that since they made frames make tonics too.
