Please, let me play with my wife!
They already stated this won’t be fixed in Wintersday, and that they regret it. I’ve found that with my guildies a few tries of pressing ready at the exact same time (on teamspeak) trows us together, maybe you could try this, hope it helps.
So, I just got married yesterday, but my wife and I have been playing Guild Wars together since launch.
We love PvP. Sadly, we’ve been sticking primarily to PvE because we’re casual players and unless we were to get into serious tournament groups, doing any sort of sPvP is a frustrating mess since the game constantly either puts us in different games or pits us against each other when we join in together.
The really sad part is that with Wintersday, we can’t play the Snowball game together. There is no “Join in” feature and there is no “join as a group” feature either. There are so many games going at once that it’s practically impossible to end up together when we queue and even if we did, we’d likely end up on opposite teams.
So please, please…please, please, please, let us play together. We both love this game, but it’s sad and frustrating to no end that this social game puts so many barriers to letting us play together.
Not to go off-topic, or anything, but, if you got married yesterday shouldn’t you be on your honeymoon doing other things with your wife?
I’m not trying to tell you what to do, don’t take it the wrong way. Maybe try clicking join at the same time like the other poster suggested?
idk man I think they can choose what to do with their wife. Sometimes you don’t leave on honeymoon right away due to financial constraints and crap, and I know a couple who didn’t bother spending money on a honeymoon at all and just saved up for an apartment.
Plus even if they are on their honeymoon sometimes couples do things that aren’t other things. Like get on the internet.
Thanks Fox for the tip btw! Will have to try this with friends later…
GW2 is a nice honeymoon. Congratz @ you two.

We had a mini honeymoon last night, but we’re waiting until Jan 6th to go on the full honeymoon since the holidays are in the way. We have a week in Ireland planned. =D
Also, we’ve tried hitting join at the same time quite a bit (we sit next to each other, so this is easy), but we haven’t been joined together once yet. It worked for the jumping puzzle though, so go figure, lol!

Well that sounds like a blast. I’ve always wanted to travel there, as it seems to be beautiful and my ancestry hails from there.
this social game
There’s your problem. Invalid premise.
You won’t be able to play together for the snowball game, but if you want to play sPvP together, do “tournaments” instead of the random games. also, once you’re in the random games you can switch sides.
PM me if you need help.

My husband and I have been fighting the grouping/party battle since beta as well. I understand that you don’t “need” a group to get credit for kills etc. But that does not negate the fact that people “want” to group.
I would like to see my being able to party and have that hold, no matter what we decide to do. I don’t so much mind the holiday stuff, except for Toycop, which I won’t do without us in party together. But it woud be MORE FUN to do the Snowball in party.
I would like for groups to be able to do sPvP without workarounds. And in PvE and WvW, to be able to merge my group with a bigger one, and unmerge it again when finished. It’s much easier to adjust what you are doing to help the group if you can see their Name, Level, and dot on the map. This is done in other games; just doesn’t seem to be a priority here. Or the technology is not in place, but that has not been said, I don’t think.
Like the OP, we stick to PvE due to the non-grouping in sPvP. I do sPvP on own, but hubby doesn’t play it at all for now.
It’s better than it was in beta as far a PvE. But it’s STILL an issue for us.

We’ve tried tournaments, but they’re even worse than regular sPvP games for a number of reasons:
– It takes longer to get in a game
– Since it’s just the two of us, we have to wait to get paired with 3 random people that often drop before the game starts
– We often get matched against a full group of 5 people that do tournaments regularly and are more prepared.
However, I didn’t know about the switch team feature, so I’ll try that in the future.
I know people don’t want to get matched up against premades in regular sPvP, but I see no reason as to why ANet can’t do what other games such as Blizzard has done, which is to pair grouped players together against other grouped players when they queue.
I don’t have anything constructive to add, just wanted to say grats on getting married and may many great times come to you two!
Congrats to your marriage Dahkeus

Thanks!
Congrats!
More to the point however, I too can’t believe this problem hasn’t been resolved yet. It was brought up back in October with the Halloween activities that couldn’t be done in groups. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
switch teams feature is I think under the “battle” menu. Press B once you get into the game, and the person on the team with more players can switch.
If you really want to guarantee it, you should just join a guild that does sPvP.

OR just wpvp
better results and xp and real loot.
So you can play with people you want in the snowball mayhem activity. What you do is join at the same time and most of the time you’ll be put into the same lobby. If your on separate teams just hit B and switch.

I thought the reason was so that organized teams can’t farm Wintersday gifts and crush public games, frustrating casual players from playing and enjoying it due to pro coordinated curb-stomping?
first up – congratulations!!! : ))) wishing you all the very best, heh.
it was actually my wife who introduced me to gw2 as she was an avid gw1 player. this being my first mmo as well. we always play together, and not too bugged about the PvP and toypocalpyse auto grouping, but i guess that’s why why we don’t do it as much. we go PvE, dungeons and WvW-ing instead. hope they’ll be able to further implement grouping option for all activities going forward and most people do want to be able to group with people they want to. it’d be a nice touch. perhaps have events where it’s separated into auto grouping, and all those who apprecaite that can go to that version – so to avoid “organized” teams as Archenson above mentioned.
and just for fun, the wifey and i go on “dates” in Tyria. : )) and makes us both very happy. heh. gaming, staying at home, the internet doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not interactive or cannot be romantic in any given way. XDDD that being said, we still apprecaite legit IRL dates, movie dates (got a few coming up!) or a nice dining out experience every so often as well. heh.
