Thank you for the Wintersday event!
Erm, you do know that you can buy the toy frames now from the vender for 250 ugly whatevers. The same vender in LA that you traded those for presents. So now you can get all the minis more or less.
No you can’t, because you still only have 600 cogs.
And yes, really. The mini games are awful, you can’t join Toypocalypse with friends, and repeating the instances gets you basically nothing.
or you can just buy them using the ugly tokens. Either way. Anet changed it so everyone can have oppertunity to have the minis.
seconded You guys did an amazing job. There’s some stuff I won’t ever manage, including the jumping puzzle, which I don’t have a chance in hell of ever completing (being truly hopeless at it), but that’s cool. So I won’t get all rewards, big whoop, who cares; it’s all good fun. Not everyone should be able to get everything available in the game easily, otherwise nothing would be special.
Props on them for allowing more frames for tonic likers, best call of Wintersday yet.
…but have you even tried the toy defense thing? Bugged to oblivion, can’t do it with your guildies. Or the Dungeons? Copy-paste-repeat. Almost fell asleep once or twice during the Asura one.
But all in all, the Wintersday event has been good.

We have a new player-driven market that allows players to trade gold for gems and gems for gold. If you want something, whether it’s an in-game item or a microtransaction, you ultimately have two ways to get it: you can play to earn gold or you can use money to buy gems. We think that’s important, because it lets more players participate on a level playing field, whether they use their free time or their disposable income to do it.
The holiday event is causing the gold to gems exchange rate to be extremely unfavorable to those who would otherwise have created all 5 minis via the mystic forge. So, I think the complaints are legitimate. They are not living up to their promise right now.
EDIT: The event on the whole is still great. Just because this is one questionable decision on their part doesn’t mean it’s immune to criticism.

All that’s missing is a way to get more cogs, IMO.

I have to say that I’m probably not used to much, coming from free to play games, but I have never seen a holiday event done as well as this one. It’s my first event, having bought the game when apparantly the Lost Shores event was on, and back then I didn’t realise there was an event going on. I can’t wait for future events if they’re all going to be as awesome as this one.
My only complaint is the jumping puzzle, which is too hard for my taste. I’ve been trying to finish it a few hours each day, I only got almost past the presents once and then the last present blew up under me. I love the puzzle itself, just not the fact that it’s timed.
Yes, thank you ANet for putting together a fun Wintersday event so far (I haven’t had a chance to try everything yet, but I hope to by this weekend)!
I doubt there will be a way to get enough cogs to make more than 2 minis—if you want the rest, you’ll have to go to the gem store. The additional frames are to make endless tonics for those people who either used their frames to make minis or who used their endless tonics in the Mystic Forge to try to get an Endless Toymaker Tonic.
I don’t know if this is something they planned to do from the beginning. If not, I think it’s great that they’ve responded so quickly to players’ requests to be able to make all the tonics. Now I can make a Endless Griffin Tonic to go with my plushy mini-pet!
I just really wish there was a way to EARN more cogs. I mean, I hate to just throw away some of the frames, ya know?
Two minis from doing the dungeon and the rest you can buy of the trading post for 350 gems each (which I did, by the gold to gems exchange.)
The xmas events have been a lot more fun than Halloween ones in my opinion. And the jump puzzle is doable by almost everyone— GOOD.

The chest resets once a day. So maybe tomorrow we will get another 200 cogs. One can hope, no?
Azim, from later in that thread:
Oops, I was mistaken. It’s once, period, per account. Sorry for the confusion!

Didn’t want to make a separate thread, aaaand I’ve only skimmed the above posts which seems to be back and forth justifications, BUT.
Thank you for the unsafe boxes and free skins! It was totally unexpected and I’m quite pleased!!

I have enjoyed the festival for what I was able to actually do. Learning I can’t continue to do instances and earn more cogs and pieces for the mini pets was a big disappointment. Since all the cogs and toy frames are bound, I feel I should be able to actually use them to make the toys they are meant to be used for simply by playing the game.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with this event. This has been a fun change from the norm, and is appropriately festive.
Thanks for helping me get in the holiday spirit, ANet!
I never want this event to end! I was frustrated with the Halloween jumping puzzle, but the Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle is perfect for me. It has become my favorite jumping puzzle in the game so far! It was the perfect challenging difficulty for my personal skill level.
I also usually dislike PvP, but I really loved the Snowball Mayhem… It was fun and I felt good because I actually understood the strategies quickly and was actually good at it. The bell choir is quite clever and was also challenging and tons of fun. I’m jealous of my guildie who got a perma-bell!
The only achievement I’ve yet to obtain is the Toypocalypse Cancelled… and I’m working on it.
I just wanted to give some positive feedback because (aside from the fact that you often get lambasted with negativity) you addressed many of the things that frustrated me about the Halloween and Karka events – I was not stressing about missing anything due to life and work; The jumping puzzle was not overcrowded due to the three paths, so I was not bothered by jumping with other players; And I only ran into a couple minor bugs. Thanks for the fun! Definitely helped my holiday mood. You made this player very happy!
I agree, this was great and I had a blast. Oh heaven knows I cursed at the bells and jump puzzle but I got them done.
The only problem I have now is an irrational fear of presents sitting out in the open, I am afraid mean things will jump out and kill me, my doctor says it will pass and forces me to open a present on each session now.
Dear wonderful folks at ANet,
I love the entirety of Wintersday events – the high points & flaws (Die dolls!!), everything comes together as an awesomely memorable festive gift. Thank you so much and have a merry Merry Christmas
Didn’t really think a “Thank you” or a “Censored” was in order, but I did enjoy the event. For future reference I liked that you didn’t feel like you were wasting time by not farming 24/7 as you did during the Halloween event. Once a day (2 weeks to make up the ones you missed) was a lot more casual, aside from weirdos, like me, that spent too much gold on crap they didn’t need.
