I am disappointed as well if you can make only 2 out of 5. I was really exited when I logged in, checked the bank tab, saw the 5 toy minis and remembered the teasers for Tixx’s event. It seemed to mean we’d get a mini for each stop.There are already costumes, weapon skins, 4 unique minis and other stuff in the gem shop, cutting on these too feels stingy to me. Considering that it is the main Wintersday event that’s just sad. I agree with this suggestion (or something similar):

-every other complete of instance (second, third etc. in a day) = gifts, as it is now

No one is complaining that ArenaNet needs to make money, but about the means to that end. If the 3 pets from the chest were sold in a fixed package like those in Halloween, I would already have bought that package twice to get the pets and especially the quaggan pet. But I won’t gamble like that, neither with ingame nor real money.

I complete agree with both your logic and your sentiment, however, whoever is responsible for monetization at Anet feels strongly the opposite. The continued RNG, although different in this event than halloween, is the result of that.

Who is to say the lions arch dungeons won’t reset daily? We are not even past the first day yet. Why don’t we wait and see once he gets to LA?

I think you will find it is at each city for 24 hours, after that it changes completely with a different dungeon/instance. When it gets to Lions Arch we can choose which dungeon/instance we either want to repeat or do for the first time. Until Lions Arch we get 24 hours then a reset not like other dungeons that can repeated once per day.

To summarise, no resets til LA if ever.

The only problem I forsee is that we can max of 5 pets because we can only get 5 “plans” I suppose. So never the special pet unless we get more minis from drops/boxes which does happen. Just makes that special one into super-rare so we don’t all have one.

Minipets don’t provide any combat bonuses so I’m happy with getting 2 for free from the event ArenaNet has already given weapon skins that can be rewarded through the in-game presents, that wizard hat everyone was crying about, and a wonderful holiday event that tops any I’ve experienced for Christmas in other MMORPG’s.

Back in GW1 you were EXTREMELY lucky to have a miniature Polar Bear drop, with an estimated 0.02% drop rate from a chest you’d have to get to alone. So there’s no need to complain, atleast they aren’t putting all the Tixx minipets into RNG chests and now people can buy the holiday weapon skins from the gemstore as requested. Some people have to learn to chill, I’ve seen people complain that there’s only 1 set of town clothes this time around and that ArenaNet doesn’t care about them, lol. I can imagine these same people crying that ArenaNet doesn’t care about them simply because the Christmas hat that is currently in the gemstore is “too long” and not expensive enough or some kitten.

Already made up my mind on which ones I want, if I want the other three I’ll just buy them.

You got (very) lucky with 3 pets.

On the specific subject of Tixx mini pets…

GW2 is B2P – you don’t pay Anet $15 a month. They allow you to make ANY 2 of the 5 mini’s…and if you REALLY REALLY just have to have all 5, then you can purchase the other 3 and thye cost less than $5 each. I have zero problems with this as Anet has to make money somehow. If we were all paying $15/mo, I would expect to be able to obtain all 5 mini’s in game for free.

On the flipside, MAYBE one day Arena Net (and other companies) will realize that the majority of their playerbase HATES RNG when it comes to real money. The four random mini’s in the Wintersday boxes is beyond stupid, just like the Halloween skins were. There are plenty of people that would pay $5-15 each, straight up, if they had the option. Instead, these companies end up making people mad when they spend $100’s trying their luck. Leave the RNG to IN GAME activities, not things that involve real money. It is just going to slowly eat away any and all goodwill people have for these companies.

Anet, we promise, you will make plenty of money without the RNG – fight off the suits at NcSoft that have zero business sense, apparently. I enter a car dealership but instead of buying one of three cars of my choice, I have to pick one of 4 doors for $30,000. I can get one of the three cars, or a pile of scrap metal. I pony up $30,000 and get… a pile of scrap metal. What are the odds I am going to go back to that dealership? Zero

Just note, I have never bought keys or boxes in any game and never will – if there is something I like (skin, pet, mount) that I can just buy, I buy it.

Maybe this is just a poor attempt at keeping things rare? Holiday stuff should not be rare, things that take a lot of effort to obtain in game should be rare.

I have been checking the Guildwars Wiki on the subject of mini pets. Every christmas we had/have the same minipets. If they do the same in Guildwars 2 then all we need to do is wait a year.

There have been unique pets but the only ones connected with celebrations were for one off events such as the release of expansions. The only annual pets which changed were those for the Canthan New Year (Cantha had an oriental theme so year of the frog, year of the rat, etc meaning pet frog, pet rat and so on).

Hope that helps. GW2 is not the same game but I suppose we have to wait and see.

The problem with “wait and see” is this event might be the only chance to get these pets. You don’t know they will be back next year. If i wait and see, and then next year’s event is different and these pets are nowhere to be found, then what?

In this case working to get the gold to get the gems to buy the remaining three mini-pets. Yes theyre a lot of gold but believe me when I say you could get that gold in a week if youre willing to put a little effort in.

Think of it as youre getting two free pets out of a collection of five. Its saved you 16g if youre into mini-pets. If you really are the collector you say you are start going to dungeons and working your way towards the gold to buy the gems.

@ Thereon, Do not assume we haven’t already put $30+ into Anet’s Coffer’s for the Wintersday Mystery Boxes for the other 4 special mini’s for the event. Tixx’s 5 mini’s Should be offered free for a grind, since there is already 4 mini’s that are gotten ONLY in the gem store. If others want to spend more money or put a rediculous ammount of gold into gems, that is the player’s choice. Forcing us to use the gem store to finish the collection is where they went wrong. We should be offered a way to grind out more cogs. Simple as that.

I really wish they’d clarify a bit more about these pets. I’m fine with however it is, they have to make money somehow, but it’d be nice to know. I like pets. :<

I find the Snow Griffon and the Toy Soldier to be my crafts for this Wintersdays to be my picks. I didn’t like the other ones personally.

So the question is, Is it just an obsession or do you really like all of them?

I did open about 23 boxes aboutish. if not more, you jsut need to find a balance between using ingame currency and real cash.

I geuss thats true, but i don’t want to sound like a hard kitten even if you spend near 2k gems the odds are favorably enough that you get between 2-5 miniatures indefinitely.

Maybe they should’ve used an alternative way to do so.

But it comes all down to the sort of luck that leaves people feeling bad, I have 2 friends one bought 10 boxes and got 2 minis, the other bought 40 and got 1 but alot of junk that could’ve dropped just aswell from the sized gift boxes.

With the mystery boxes most of the time its like people are paying 2g for a Giant gift box…I would hate to see future events going down this road endlessly, everyone are more than willing to pay but at what price is too much?

And the sad thing is, even if people are prepared to waste all their gold and gems on this mystery box, there is no ‘real’ guarantee that it will drop what they want, after all your chances dont increase per box you open, you just open each box with the same lousy chance you had from the one you opened before

If someone decides they just have to have every pet and spends virtual currency to purchase virtual boxes that have virtual items in them, in all fairness they shouldn’t complain that they don’t get what they want.

If someone decides to spend actual currency on virtual boxes that have virtual items in them, their complaints make even less sense because of the decisions that they had to make in and out-of-game.

I’m quite happy getting mini pet parts for free, built today’s, will wait and see what I get for the other two days.

AnthonyOrdon / ArenaNet, could you clarify, please? I had to miss the first three days, and it looks like playing the remaining two won’t yield enough parts to forge even one mini. If I play the dungeons that I missed once Tixx arrives at Lion’s Arch, will I get the mini parts from those dungeons?

I too would like to know if you can get the parts from days you missed when you repeat them in LA. I would really like to make 2 minipets, but I missed the 1st and 3rd days of the event. I wasn’t worried about it at first because it was stated that you would be able to repeat the events when Tixx reaches LA, but if you don’t get any reward from doing the dungeons you missed then what’s the point of doing them? (besides the achievement)

So what if you can only get 2 out of the 5 minis (this time)? Save for the ones you like best and grab them. They’re not all cool—that princess doll isn’t going to win you favors running around everywhere behind you as a male character. Collectors can probably wait until next Wintersday to make the others, since I’m sure they’ll re-use the content, or if it’s really that important to them they can shell out some cash for the pets and help further support Anet.

But one thing I’ve learned is, no matter the MMO, if you try to collect or do everything there is to do, you’re going to make yourself very miserable. Just enjoy what you can.

I’m not too disappointed we can only get 2. Usually these types of things are CS bound only, and the only one even worth getting is the stuffed griffon. <3

No, Minis are not essential, and everything in the gem store is entirely optional. But, at the same time, it >does< say very clearly in the patch notes that the wintersday mystery boxes are supposed to be a world drop.
