This is just me wondering:
Where are the Grentchs? Why are they replaced by some ugly and annoying skritts? Where are the Brrrls? Freezie & Grentchus?? Where are the fun Wintersday quests? Where are the hardcore solo missions with snowballs skills? Where is my solo dungeon with a 0.02% mini quaggan “that-everyone-wants” inside chest? Where are the candy canes weapons? The candy cane shards? The wintersday gifts with actually something useful inside?? Why did all the lore had to be replaced by a stupid asura toymaker? Where is even our GW spirit? The wonderful atmosphere? Our 100% free stuff? …
It is in GW1. And the Grentchs and such are probably not around because the Gods are not. No battle between Dwayna and Grenth anymore.
And why can’t they come back, just for Wintersday? as Mad King did?
I really hope that this stuff is coming next year for a new Wintersday story, because I’m already tired of Skritts… I want Grentchs to attack Tixx’s Workshop so I can bash them!
It wouldn’t make sense to have them just appear then leave after, when they’re supposed to be lost. One day, they may come back (expansion), then it’ll return.
Considering this game is still fairly new…I suspect events will get better as time goes on. I mean, anet produces events for 2 games now.
Also, I thought I did see a candy cane hammer somewhere.
As far as the gods showing up, who knows whats going on with them. They could be off fighting a war amongst their own kind in a realm beyond the mist, another series of planets or off brewing coffee as starbucks baristas. We don’t know and have to make due until their reemergence.
Edit: I like GW2 snowball arena more than GW1…loads of fun with stealth, slingshots, terminator walkalike minigun snowball style, slippery ice casting mayhem and giant snowball rollin.
I love the new stuff. If they just remade old stuff it would be incredibly dull for us GW1 players who would have no surprises about it. Despite what anyone says about “remake it with better graphics” that method of game development is always a flop. Cheers to ANet for originality!
Fortunately GW1 is still up and running, so if you prefer the older style of celebration, you can do that instead of or along with the new one.
Personally, I’m glad they’re not rehashing the same ground, especially since if you want to do the same thing as other years, all you have to do is run the other game client. I don’t see much point in having both running simultaneously unless they’re actually different.
If any of my present guildies were GW1 vets I would do just that, at least part of this holiday. I’ll have to log in and see just how many CC shards I have at least. Have 4 GW1 acccounts, seems a shame not to visit.
I thought the exact same thing (in regards to Grenth and Dwayna battling for control of the season) and it makes sense, because the Gods have been silent for a while now.
I’m sure that, in the future (expansion probably) the Gods will return, and at that time Dwayna and my main man, Grenth, will return to their old quarrels.

Sadly, the human gods haven’t been seen in something like 200 years. Therefore small Grenths will not be around for the time being.
I admit that the rewards were far more enticing in GW1, but I find the event fairly fun still overall. Granted, I would enjoy it better if the dungeons could be soloed. Not that I have had a problem finding a group, dungeons just aren’t my thing (For instance, I won’t be grinding fractals). I just hope that they keep the Tixx dungeon evolving as they go and get slightly more imaginative with it. Having Toxx as the boss all the time will get old and repetitive. Quickly.
I agree that they need to bring back the candy cane shards and the eggnog. As it currently stands we can trade in the ugly clothing for gifts, which aren’t of any use until you get enough for the skin we want (though I can’t say that I am all that interested in any of them) or a unstable present (which from what I gather is a random skin/ item anyway).

i saw a couple things i liked on halloween but most of the skins in the game and not just the holidays ones i dont really like
is it too much to ask for a decent staff skin im tired of the gnarled stick or the rod with a ball on it
or just do me a favor and tell me where the final rest is located in pve and then im good

Some of that stuff was good. Others, I like the way it was done in GW2 better. The mini-games in this game are high quality, and I enjoyed each of them. I won’t play them repeatedly, but they were very amusing.
As for the 0.02% mini-pet drop, they put that in the wintersday boxes instead of a quest. That’s for revenue Frankly, I agree with that decision. I enjoy seeing the company of a game I play generating revenue, when the item in question is completely optional with no game implications.
Here’s to hoping they use it to hire some extra programmers! Maybe i’ll stop dreading every patch that contains the line “fixed”.
You do realize there’s a lot of time left in the event.
Take Halloween as an example… people flipped and freaked out on several issues, but by the end it turned out that if they had waited it out, they would have been happy.
