Why I personally dislike Toypocalypse
I’m not going there again until it’s “fixed” and that means that I will NEVER go there again because they will not “fix” it like they didn’t “fix” the minis RNG and the Gift Stopper. That’s how I feel.
The lack of loot does seem off given the amount of effort to keep the 5 dolyaks alive, particularly duchess who was a toy magnet.
It is kind of hard to keep 5 dolyaks alive if the game sends you in as a replacement to a game with a dead dolyak or two already!
To the folks that bail after one gets downed, you not only hurt the team you were on but other gamers trying to have a clean start as well that get sent in to replace you!
What DaKenster said… Duchess should be a common name for those who get aggro-ed to much in dungeons xD She/he/it really is mob-magnet!
After 1h with random ppl i finally made it ( thx god) , and i didn’t get the achievment, no chest, nothing that could make me think something else then ‘’ i wasted my time raging on the guy who place a wall in the middle of nowhere ’’…. srs Anet ?? That’s it ?
Why oh why did they make it a pug event? There’s people who don’t even bother reading the instructions. “Where can I get snow?” Makes me want to cry. So yeah it sucks.
TC did you not pick up all the presents on ground after each toxx?
I agree with the OP. Why the heck can’t we join this event with a premade party? I want to enjoy this with guildmates and there is zero reason why this shouldn’t be allowed.
TC did you not pick up all the presents on ground after each toxx?
Still not enough to keep interest to such activity. Lack of party play, ANet’s obsession with disabling every player ability/giving some crap in hands really ruins that event. I want to play my character with my skills and weapon sets and not some “repair pistol” that doesnt even have repair ability…
Um so, just did this, and got all the gifts that spawn every 2 rounds, came out of there with 8 personalized gifts (1 per round + 4 at end) and 10 giant gifts (3, 2, 2, 3) from the mystery presents that spawn.
18 gifts is not bad, it’s not as fast as others.

Considering the amount of effort, i´d go out and play the snowball event/gather gifts in the fields.
The reward is in no way worth it, only the achievement is.
I for one won´t be redoing it now that i´m done.
It’s the worst event from Wintersday.
Not only it is too long, it is very boring.
Waves of mobs rushing towards dolyaks and you just stay there and make a shot every 3 seconds. Nice.
They should’ve either let us use our own skills or create a whole set of abilities for every weapon – with utilities and elites. Not this hastily assembled copy&paste stuff.
Really dissapointed. Don’t care ’bout achievement.

Then they probably shouldn’t have an achievement contingent on having all five Dolyaks alive.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
I actually enjoyed playing it, more so than the dungeon events or the music thing (uh.)
My first one I joined about halfway through and I used that round to get a handle on how everything worked. I promised the achievement to anyone who stayed through the next round if they promised to do what I said. They followed directions (for the most part), and we got Toypocalypse Cancelled on that run. Wasn’t difficult if you have a team that is working together. Which really makes me wonder why you can’t join as a group?
EDIT: The way we got the achievement is as follows.
– Snow is used ONLY for wall building. No snowmen.
– Set up walls in between the pillars in the middle. Set them even with the OUTER edge of the pillars, so that melee hits cannot reach the Dolyaks. We set them up too close one time, and the ’yaks were getting hit through the walls.
– When upgrading a wall, be sure to face the wall straight on when upgrading, because the wall will move perpendicular to you when you upgrade it. This is a blessing and a curse because you can either turn walls into place that were not set up well, or you can turn a wall sideways that was already well placed.
– Set up Ballistas/Catapults at regular intervals around the outer edge of the circle. Upgrade as needed.
– Do not upgrade walls until their health gets low. Then upgrading them will heal them as well.
– Ignore the mortars at the edge of the map. They require a person to control them and are slow and awkward.
– Have your team get rifles and shoot from inside/atop the walls at the enemy waves.
– Designate two people to always be on wall/snow duty. You can stockpile snow behind your walls by hitting the weapon switch button to drop the bundle. The other three people should always be fighting or building weapons.
– When fighting Toxx, everyone gets rifles and shoots from OUTSIDE the circle. Keep Toxx out of the middle!
Hope this helps some people out!

Let me get this straight, by your own words this mode is:
Fun
A solid idea and concept
Difficult, but not too much
Well made and detailed
A mode which the game lacked and fits well
But in spite of all that, it sucks because the carrot isn’t big enough? I think the principal problem is your outlook, when you start playing video games for a sense of accomplishment instead of fun, you need to shut the games off go look for real things to accomplish in the real world, and come back when you can see video games as a venue of entertainment again.

It’s not that I really hate it but… this… pretty much.
Shoot………….Shoot……………… Shoot…………………………. Gah that rifle is so slow, and the hammer gets me slaughtered so quick. I don’t like the enforced usage of “special asura weapons” in this game. It’s one of the few things that ticks me off. Hearts that force you to use one bugs me, but this bugs me more.
I had hoped for … well a similar idea but with our own skills. Lack of grouping is also lame. Shame really. Could have been very good, engaging, enjoyable, instead of just….average and a bit tedious.
I think it’s pretty decent mechanically, but I’m utterly confused at why they decided to have it break groups.
Arenanet, I understand this logic for hot-join holiday PvP, you want to keep it random and prevent outperformers from steamrolling too much.
For PvE events or other minigames, just allow groups to join as groups. We like playing with other people, but we also really like playing with our friends.

What a terrible, terrible design.
I have no words.
I agree.
Good idea, poor execution.
I don’t even group with guild/friends, but not being able to build your pug with competent players sucks. :/

Thank you for this gem. This is the absolute truth.
Why are people doing this? That is, why are people trying to get 5 dolyaks alive until the end? Here is your carrot: for the achievement, nothing else. That is why you do this, people. Not for the gifts, but for them 20 Arenanet points. This is your reward, be grateful. If not? Then don’t play the minigame with 5 Dolyaks or only if you really have just the genuine fun for the accomplishment of DOING it. And not for arbitrary rewards at the end.
1) You should have been able to party with friends/guildmates. being thrown in with random people who may just as well ignore you and your team trying to be coordinated is not fun.
2) That said when I ended up with a group who knew what they were doing, it was fine. A little long and repetitive but fun. Not worth another run though unless someone I know needs to complete it.
3) I ended up with around 20 total gifts at the end… which if one had dropped something other than ugly wool stuff would have been great but for the time and the repetition which eventually got boring the rewards were meh.
You have what you have because you do what you do.
If you need to get the achievement, there is no point in continuing if a dolyak is dead. I’ve completed it all the way 3 times, and failed. I don’t want to spend an hour each time especially when 1 dolyak goes down, there is no point in staying.
the op speaks for me. even a small reward of 10-20 cogs and 25 stuffing + glue. it is a fun mini game and one worth repeating if only there were incentive to do so.
Honestly, I played it enough to finish the 50 waves achievement but after seeing how difficult it was to keep the dolyaks alive in a PUG where everyone simply runs around the map randomly doing their own thing, I left and doubt I’ll go back in again.
Running it cooperatively with my guild mates would have made it more enjoyable for me. Also, actually getting some great, unique rewards from a chest at the end would help make it more fun.
