Wintersday Mini Pets
I completely agree. I wanted to make 3 mini pet toys for a Foostivoo the Merry mini! But nooope! No more cogs/stuffing/glue. Lame.
I don’t mind not being able to make ALL of the minis, but I am confused by everyone getting 200 cogs from Tixx now. With that 200 you get 700 cogs total, which still only lets you make two minis. What’s the point?
Foostivoo is made from the 3 wintersday gift box mini pets, not the ones you can make with frames.
GW2 said from the start we could only make 2 pets, the 200 extra cogs has already been said in other posts about this. Its because some people had an issue with not getting the cogs they were supposed to, and that final 200 was to compensate so they could make their two pets.
That makes sense (about the extra cogs). But I wish we had the option to sell or even just give them to other people. I mean, since I’ve made two of my minis, I’m now left with 200 cogs to just sit in my inventory or bank until I delete them. I’d rather be able to give them to someone else.

Yes would be great to pass them on but then people would argue that some got to make more than 2 pets etc. lol
You can use the ones you don’t make into mini’s to try for a Everlasting tonic.

Meijo: Yeah. The whining would never stop. :p
You have to buy the remaining three, they are only 450 gems each which is only fourish gold, less if you get on early in the morning when gem prices are lowest.
450 gems is way more than I’d pay for the minis. I made the two I wanted most (griffon and soldier), and I’m happy with those.
they are 350 gems each
Well, I have no interest in anything but the mini pets. Since all the extra items I have are bound, I guess I’ll just destroy them. Seems like such a waste.
I honestly have the up most rage about not being able to make all of the Mini-Pets. The fact that you can only get 700 mystical cogs now per account is down right disappointing. So say you use 500 to make your two toys. Now your left over with 200 cogs, 3 empty frames, and a pile of gule or stuffing that you can do nothing with.
I was honestly expecting that you could get 100 cogs per day from the Tixx events for the entire of the event. But seeing as how the best gift you can get now are Giant Wintersday Presents, snowflakes and some crappy green drops from the end chest just made this entire event a “Meh ~”.
The least ANet could do right now is post an announcement on why they did this.
Yeah, I was planning to run one of the instances each day in order to get all my toy pieces and parts, but now there’s no point for me to rerun them. I was looking forward to working on my toys in the coming days. Oh, well. Now that I’ve done Toypocalypse, my festival is pretty much over today.
It is greed. Purely greed. They already released 4 RNG minis through the Mystery Box, there were absolutely no reason to do this to us too.
I’m just bummed that I accidentally threw the Toy Golem in the forge when I wanted to make the Soldier. I guess that’s what I get for not paying enough attention, but I’ll never once have that pet out.
Come on whiners, you are entitled to nothing! It’s cool that not everyone will have all the minis.
Also, you paid nothing for this update. If you want the mini so badly spend $10 and buy them, it’s less than you’d pay for a single month in WoW.
Being disappointed about something doesn’t imply an attitude of entitlement. It’s simply a statement of how I (and others) feel regarding the situation. I would have had a great time rerunning the festival dungeons for cogs and such to make all the minis I have frames for.

If you call us whiners you at least have to have your facts right. Get them right, or don’t come to us about entitlement.

I don’t know about every one else, but I play GW2 because its FREE FOR LIFE and I don’t have to pay even more money to make this a better experience for me.

Umm, I admit he’s being unnecessarily crass and unkind. But explain exactly what ‘fact’ he has wrong? Because so far as I can see; you didn’t pay for this update, you can buy any mini (for far less than he says actually), and it is less than a months payment in WoW. Do you not know what fact means?

I’m still trying to figure out the relevance for me of the WoW comment. That has nothing to do with anything I’ve said. lol
“Spend 10$ and buy them”
There’s 3 toy mini pets left, (1050 gems total), 3 minipets from the mystery box which is dropped by random PLUS an additional minipet either dropped with extreme luck or created from the latter 3 minis, meaning you will have to get at least 6 minipets from the mystery boxes to get. By random chance.
That translates into a total of at least 3.450 gems (And this is a lucky outcome), assuming we bought 10 chests 3 times and paid for the first minis. Let’s for arguments sake also say we had enough in game cash to convert to 650 gems. Now we have 2.800 gems left that we need to buy. That is already 35$, over triple the cost of his statement. And once again, this example was incredibly generous. The very best recorded data nets 5 minis in 22 chests, while the worst is 17 chests and no minipets. (Wiki data). So at LEAST 30 chests would be required, unless you are ridiculously lucky. 35$ is best case outcome, it may very well be more like 50$ in most cases. How much was WoW a month again?
Yes, so terrible not to be able to collect all minis without spending any money. Can’t enjoy Wintersday at all. No other game does this, of course, asking you to spend money to collect everything. The two freebie minis, pah, worthless without the rest!

For any collector type of player, yes.

Nobody in this thread has even mentioned the three minis you get randomly from the Mystery Boxes except for you, the OP and everyone else has been expressly talking about the pets you forge with the frames from the Infinirarium instance. Each of which sells from the Gem Store for 350 gems each, which is around $3-4.00. You get two from doing each days instance, that leaves three. At the max price of four dollars, the remaining minis only cost twelve dollars, a month in WoW costs $12-15 depending on how you pay your monthly fee.
EDIT: Just a minute, figuring out exactly how much these cost.
EDIT: Okay I was a bit off, each mini costs exactly $4.37, making three $13.11. Costing, technically, slightly more or less than a month subscription to WoW depending on how you pay.

I’m happy with two mini pets. If I’ve got some left over mats I’ll make a tonic or two.
If I really wanted something else, I’d just buy it in the gem store, and support the game in the process.
When are people going to figure out there’s a war going on?
I honestly have the up most rage about not being able to make all of the Mini-Pets. -snip-
Not just to you, but everyone else who complains about only being able to make 2 minis. You should be GLAD they have 5 minis and allow you to choose which one you want.
If they only designed 2 minis, no one would have made a complaint like “Anet only designed 2 minis? Worst Wintersday ever! Why not design 5 minis and give them all to us?”
The fact they designed more doesn’t mean you need to have everything. You should be thankful you can decide what you get. It’s just a freaking minipet. If you can’t live with not having all 5, buy them off the Gem store. If that’s not worth the money, then obviously you don’t want em that bad, and there’s no need for all the complaining.
You get all sort of content for free, without a monthly fee, and all you can do is complain about how you don’t get an over-the-top supply of free minipets? Stop being so freaking greedy. Be thankful you can actually get 2 free minipets, instead of having to buy the mini pack of 300 gems from the store.
It’d be nice if Anet didn’t outright lie (as of this posting) about Mystery Boxes being dropped in-game. Nobody has had any drop. I’m hoping they drop on Christmas or something.
I made the foostivoo mini but I have to say don’t really care for him. I miss the pop pop popping sounds of my snowman mini. That being said it would be nice if you could use those leftover cogs in the mystic forge for something. Ah well….
I think it’s slightly amusing about all the people that come into this thread in order to rage about how stupid we are for expressing disappointment with the mini situation. Their unnecessary hyberbole is truly award-winning. Drama queen staging at its finest. lol
Obviously, not being able to make all 5 minis isn’t going to end anyone’s life, although I have talked with enough people in the game that didn’t know about the 2 mini limit like I didn’t from day one of the festival to know that my lack of understanding isn’t all that unusual. Just having received 5 frames in the city instances led many I spoke with to believe we could build them all and so we looked forward to it. Simple as that.
Look I’ve said it on other threads, the price for these items (real world money) is way too much. If I’m goign to be forced into a situation where I’m having to gamble to get in game items then at least give me a fair shot without having to pay over the original price for the entire game, this isn’t fair.
So far Ive spent £8.50 on the mystery boxes and not one mini.. where is my incentive to buy more? Yes I know this is a free to play game but this is way too much, I’ve already spent more than half a years worth of subs (average) so they must be doing ok.

Me too. Easily. I’ve probably already waxed $200 on gems in this game, increasing bank space, bag space on toons, getting some gold to buy a couple of nice weapons.
You think with this money they could pay someone to act as a community liaison on the forum or something..
Anyone remember DaoC? they had Sonja (or whatever) who liaised b/w the gamers and the devs – that was decent – at least someone acknowledged your existence.
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)
As an avid collector of worthless items for vanity that I never show off, I want to get all the minis. The RNG boxes suck, but imo thats just how things are if you want to be a collector. I accept it. So, I bought 31 chests (using gold) I got 3 minis (2 snowmen and 1 golem) as well as bought the 3 minis that I didn’t craft and am still thinking of going for more chests. I am bummed, and I used that term cause its the best word I could think of, that I was “lucky” and got 250 cogs instead of the 200 from the Tixx chest but I already bought the craftable minis. But as they say, so it goes.
I really would like to be able to make a Mini for each of my character slots without having to spend $$ on gems, or give up what little gold I’ve been able to scrape together in the game so far.
I’m a casual player. I was excited about the idea of running the Dungeon as a daily until I got all the stuff I needed to have each of my characters equipped with a toy. Now, it doesn’t seem like there’s any good reason for the event to last as long as it is. With no tangible reward, the replay value of the events drop and I go back to the usual grind.
From all the people whining about only being able to make 2 or 3 minis maybe they should of just had the minis be a cash shop only item instead of giving you free gifts for playing.
Everyone is quick to find problems but most completely ignore things just handed to them.
Id like to thank them for giving me my choice of 2 now 3 minis and hope in the future that all minis except the HOM become tradeable so that they become real collectables.
Thanks again and keep up the great work guys and gals =)

I think I may be this games biggest fan, I’ve promoted it across many gaming communities, told every gaming friend I have to look at it, given countless hours of feedback in various forms, reported a whole plethora of bugs and of course played it to death in every beta and launch… I absolutely adore this game and still don’t think it gets enough praise for the sheer scale of what they have done.
So please, don’t call me a whiner. I like many other gamers see a problem here and we are raising this in the only way we can. Many MMO gamers love to collect every possible bit of the game, from ranger pets, achievements and of course mini pets. I get this and am like that myself. I would really love to have these 3 minis and the rare Quaggan for my collection but like we have said – without spending a hell of a lot of money we can’t get them and that shouldn’t be the case. There should be an in game mechanism to allow me to work towards this.
As it stands as soon as this event finishes my collection will forever be incomplete, small potatoes to most but to some this really matters. Please have a think about this AN, I don’t think we’re being unreasonable in wanting to keep our in game collections complete.

There’s always next year…
(unless Grenth decides to kill Tixx during Winterdays end event before he leaves Lions Arch ofcourse…)

We can’t be sure if these mini-pets will even be available next year, if you look at the first Guild Wars the mini-pets changed year-to-year.

fair enough.. that’s true… then again – they also “only” made 1 or 2 event related mini’s per year in GW1 and they werent account bound Only being able to make 2 out of 5 could be indication(?) of the same returning next year…
don’t you just love it how nothing is for certain in this crazy world we live in
Canthan New Year was the only event that had pets that rotated out. I could see them changing out pets though just so that they have something to attract collectors.
