Mad king gave the Witch hat at the end of the event (last couple days) in addition to the devil horns from the BLT. I thought this was a legit question.

Hmm didn’t think of this at all. Just thought it was a counter-part to the Witch’s Hat.
The themed hat should have appeared in that chest Tixx gives if there was one. Although I guess the free minipets were the themed item.

Considering the GW2 staff statements concerning wintersday, either you will get your hat someday during/after the event by game mail or you will have to purchase from cash store (150 gems for santa hat, 25 gems gor earmuffs). Considering the way the game chose to follow, Id say you wont get free stuff.
In time: they said you only need to talk to Tixx once to get the rewards. So, if you didnt get a hat from tixx bag (and you didnt, because there isnt any), either you will get by mail (like karka chest for the ones afected by the one time epic fail event) or you wont get crap (that would be my guess).
I was very disappointed in no Wintersday hat too. GW1 was all about the festival masks and I had always looked forward to what the new seasons hat would be. Something you could wear to get into the spirit of the event. So much for xmas unless you wanted to buy that fugly santa hat from the store. And what was up with that long scrumped up design with it anyway? Sadly disappointed.
I doubt it, they had a hat on the store so my guess is no surprises.

Wintersday hat is dud. Mad King gave witch’s hat that was tied to the Halloween theme.
I expected Winter themed hat but they have us another witch/wizard hat.
And they put the santa hat in the gem store. I know ANet wants people to spend money in gem store but… just wow…

That hat had nothing to do with Wintersday. It was incentive for the special edition and was made free for people on the gem store because people felt stilted that they didn’t get a free hat too, cry cry, robble robble. The free gift for Wintersday is a Christmas themed backpack full of presents, which you can get from Tixx in Lion’s Arch while he’s there.
He already gave everyone the bag to wear on your back.

Yeah but we also got the book for a back slot on Halloween, I have a feeling we may get a town clothes hat from tixx near the end of the event. Maybe an elf hat since the santa hat is on the gem store?

I’d be happy with another hat, I suppose. But I assumed the Santa bag back piece was this holiday’s cosmetic freebie.
