Many thanks to Wooden Potatoes for his outstanding lore video, a real tribute to Cantha.
So, what are your favorite things about this event so far? Tell us what aspects of Wintersday halted your WASD keys in their tracks so you could stop and say “Wow!”
I know some of you have concerns or disappointments about the event, but if so, please go make or contribute to another thread where you can share constructive suggestions. Anet deserves feedback on all the stuff we LOVE about this event, too, and that’s what this thread is for.
So, for me:
The patch downloads. Loading screen. The new Wintersday theme is soaring in my headphones. Then…Lion’s Arch! Covered in snow! My first glimpse of the city with the decorations! Breathtaking!
Then today, my first run through the Tixx dungeon. I’m thinking, oh. My. This whole thing is an airship! And is that design on that shiny magitech glass brush strokes straight from the concept art?! So gorgeous!
I found the dungeon super fun and ran it with two awesome, friendly groups. Playing in Tixx’s workshop definitely did it—it got me in the Wintersday spirit.
When I purchased gift boxes off the gem store to get Reindeer tonic, and no mini pets…….
My two best “wow” moments where when I was in the Snowball Mayhem fight and noticed that I was actually in the LA snowglobe. Second was when Tixx’s dungeon appeared and the music combined with the funny Tox ALSO combined with the fact that you can destroy the little houses like some movie monster made me smile alot tonight. This is a very very awesome event!!!
Haha yes Wrinn, smashing the towns was so much fun. My guildie and I went in with a group just to do the “Smash the Town” achievement and we had a blast hunting down all those little trees. It was like indulging all your childhood urges to break your lego castles…even though you feel like they are masterpieces…

Bazookajoe, as I mentioned in my first post, there are other places to discuss the mini pets and other issues. Why don’t you go to this excellent, constructive thread.

Yup. There’s a certain satisfactory feeling when you clear out everything and get the little achievement, though it’s a bit sad to break it seeing as it’s such a beautiful construction.
Yes, they are such perfect little models of the towns! Really amazing on Tixx’s (i.e. the Anet artists’!) part! I was just glad the castle wasn’t destroyable. Took lots of screenshots next to it when we were done.
My first “wow” moment was building my first snowman! Hardly anyone was online yet in LA so it had a very calm atmosphere. For a whole two minutes I took a little stroll around the town and admired the snow…then saw the build-a-snowman spot and got super excited!
My second “wow” was finding my first present box. I mean, have you seen the comparison against an Asura? I could live in that box!
So far, it’s the way they made the jumping puzzle easier than the Halloween puzzle, but, still made it a challenge. I don’t mean that to be insulting. It tells me that they are seriously thinking about the people who had trouble with the Halloween puzzle. My belief is strengthened by the fact that they split everyone up onto 3 platforms, instead of everyone trying from the same one. Also, that they gave us something to do while waiting for the next round to start: Snowball Fights!!!.
It’s obvious that A-net works very hard on the holiday events, and I seriously hope everyone agrees with me when I say: Thank you, for all the hard work you put into these events!!!
P.S If an A-net employee can verify this (or at least give me a hint :P), can we expect to see a “Chinese New Year” like in in GW1?…or at least “spectral” mini pets??
Chinese New Year was actually Canthan New Year which is there because of a GW expansion (Factions). We don’t have anything oriental so I doubt it.

yes.. same for the jumping puzzle.. looking up and suddenly realising it’s actually inside the globe
Watching Tixx’s ship depart from the Grove. Sadly that thing moves too fast. It landed in Divinity’s Reachabout 5 seconds after it left, so I could not see it arrive. My daughter sits opposite of me and her character was at the receiving end. If our comouters were next to each other, could have seen both.
The first one has to be waiting for the loading screen in LA. I was thinking “They did such a great job with LA for Halloween, they’re going to have to work really hard to do better” then I saw the beautiful white town and I felt like a kid running around in the snow building snowmen.
Then the bells mini-game is just so addictive…Got the achievs for it in one go and then tried to move to pvp to get those achievs but I was just hooked; and playing Silent Night, Jingle Bells, etc during the free round is so much fun. I enjoyed it so much that after I was done I had to go upstairs and play Fear Not This Night in my harp XD
Tixx’s airship is great fun and even though I felt bad since everything there is so nicely “built”, it was a lot of fun fun to track that last tree to destroy and get the achiev (almost like tracking that last unpainted doll that was hiding all the way in the back behind a support beam yesterday =P)
Edit: Also the sweaty palms finishing the jumping puzzle with 60hp left =P (I actually died out of hp loss the first time while falling into the final present). They did such a great job in improving upon the jumping puzzle with the several paths to disperse the crowd, and snowball fights between runs…The hardest part about those jumping puzzles for people who aren’t very good at them is the wait in between.
I also forgot present hunting; even though I think the toys an dolls’ hp regen is a bit too much it’s lots of fun to go out and just hunt presents down.

My wow moment was when doing the wintersday dungeon and when fighting toxx, thinking to myself "her voice style sounds alot like the female computer voice from portal 2* .. Try it out and listen to them both, they both got around the same kind of voice. Maybe it is an easter egg but it made me smile and go “wow”.
the first time I was in Tixx’s airship and took a swing at an enemy and leveled a forest and a building. pure joy, falled by an evil laugh and twisted smile as I leveled the next few towns.
“Wow, unbreakable bells are 80g off the TP.”
My first “wow” was when i was slapped with hard difficulty song in Bell Choir for the first time.
Second “wow” was when i finally learned how to ace the hard difficulty song, that’s the point when i really started to enjoy Bell Choir in general (and its currently my favourite activity in the game….ever.)
“Wow, wtf just happened”
Getting my kitten handed to me by a pile of creepy dolls.
Lion’s Arch with the music
Of all the satisfying aspects so far, and there have been plenty, the top ones are watching my kids play the Wintersday stuff as well. My son (10) has the jumping puzzle nearly mastered and giggles when in the snowball fights he turns into a giant snowball and bowls people over. My daughter (12) is scoring near 500 (I think) every time in the bell chimes and says she has every song figured out. (I watched her righting down the numbers for at least one song, don’t know if it was that or the free play though).
It’s fun for the whole family!
Except my wife who goes off and paints while we’re playing…
Running around Tixx’s airship with my guardian and a big hammer, smashing the little houses while listening to the theme song from Weeds..
“Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of tickytacky
Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes all the same.”… BOOM.., bye bye boxes..
So far I’m loving that every event is in either a snow globe or in a giant flying ship where my tiny asuran can act like godzilla. This event looks fabulous. Thanks for all the hard work ANET.
I had two wow moment so far was when I first heard the Toymaker Tixx speak… I though how oddly feminine on the verge of “fabulous”.
Then the little girl voice sounds almost identical to the Red Queen from the Resident Evil Movies.
Definitely the first look at Lion’s Arch. I was taking a new guildie there for their first time and he just heard me exclaim on our voice chat and gush about how fantastic it looked. Very good first impression!
Also, had a lot of giggling and laughter over snowball fights with my guild as well.
