As if they removed something that easy for one person. It isn’t that hard, you just have to wait until the note hits the blue area where you are standing, then hit the correct skill icon. That’s it. Really, it takes some practice but it’s far from hard.

But… how? How could you possibly be finishing with 0? Are you doing it right?

Fingers on 1 – 4 and 6 – 9. You have to play with the camera a bit. It shouldn’t be 100% overhead, even though the game suggests that orientation. You play the note as it touches/crosses the white circle. Doing it before that point is considered missing the note and you’ll lose health.

It’s not supposed to be that easy. I’ve been playing piano for years and it took me maybe about 4 – 5 rounds to get an acceptable score. Anyway, if you really, really suck at it, like Dra Keln said, you need 12… you can skip it.

If you finish with 0 score then you are doing something wrong. I changed all my skill buttons since I hate that 1 2 3 4 and so on stuff, I have skills on q, e, r, x, c, ctrl, alt and one on a mouse button. And I still got the achievements in less than half an hour. Takes some more time for me getting used to the buttons, but it’s not impossible. I believe people who still have all their skills on 1-4 and 6-9 are having an even easier time.

This is one of the best minigames ArenaNet has ever made, how can anyone dislike music?
The sylvari does tell you “the musically inclined”, but you don’t have to be a Bemani virtuoso for this one.

You have to activate the skill right after the visual effect does a little jump.
Press too soon or too late and you’ll take damage. Press at the right time, and you’ll be healed.
It’s a good idea to experiment when you get healed after you press, sincce the timing may be different from your computer because of lag.
I found that often If you press nothing, you do not take damage. So when you have low HP.

Just stay calm and let the music take control.

It is kittened up hard and I really don’t understand how is this supposed to be an enjoying minigame? Seriously 8 notes at a time? Not even guitar hero has that many notes rushing at once!

This would be just as thrilling, and way less frustrating if there were only 4 or 5 notes that went 10-20 slower. People would actually enjoy music instead of bashing their keyboards.

Seriously, who tested this before putting it out? It is just too damn hard!

You do not have to rebind the keys, just use the second bind slot for 1-4 and 6-9.
I raged at the Bell Choir yesterday, but only because I had trouble with it myself and I have bad patience when it comes to learn new things and I fail the first few tires. Today, I placed all my fingers on the keys and tried to play it as if it was a piano and after a few more tries, I managed to win once with 490 points. It became so much easier once I learned to wait until the note enters the blue area and then press. Things seemed to slow down a bit then and I soon got a hang of it.

For me, I just had my fingers on 123 and 789, and allowed my index finger to roam between 3-4 and 6-7. Pitched the camera overhead, and waited for the notes to stop in the circle (as suggested in the instructions you can view by striking the n key), and didn’t have any problems with it.

If you’re finding it really difficult, try to stick out an entire round. It’s possible you joined in during the hard songs. After the free-play section the map resets, and the first songs are sufficiently easy I’d be hard pressed to believe you’d not get it after a few tries. Once you “get it,” it goes much more smoothly.

Best of luck, I hope you can find a way to relax and enjoy this minigame. I hope to see different iterations of it in events to come!

What can you possibly be using that many keybinds for? I also have a Naga, and I don’t think I’d be able to come up with bindings for my number keys if I wanted to. There’s just not much to bind in this game.

Anyway, some tips from someone who’s gotten a perfect score on occassion:

  • Play like a piano, one finger per key. There are only eight keys, so unless you have an ergonomic keyboard that prohibits this, you should never have to waste time repositioning your fingers.
  • Avoid the upper part as you’re learning. It’s the most difficult. Lower vs. middle is kind of a wash, with lower having it easier on “Fear Not this Night” but middle being simpler on the one before that (“Flight of the Infinarium”? I forget what it’s called.)
  • Don’t blindly hit the notes in the blue circle because that’s what everyone is telling you to do. It seems to vary with lag. During prime time last night I was hitting notes just as they entered the white. Experiment to get the right timing for you. This might take a few rounds.

Personally, I love this mini-game, and I hope they bring it back in future events. I can’t do the jumping puzzles, so it’s nice to have a side activity I can enjoy.

They also seem to want to never see such an event again. There’s no need to rain on the entire community’s parade because of your ineptitude. It’s the Clocktower all over again. I went from 0 the first 2-3 tries(did not understand it correctly and not read the long description and always pressing buttons way too early) to always a bit more than 500 which was enough for me(very often 1st one). Not trying to get near 600.

And I had complained in the forums a bit too fast too ha ha when I was still at 0.

A few later I had trouble with the easy ones… medium seemed easier. But was really fast that I could stay there for all the 6 until hard. Learning that really fast especially if just try to look at the position of the thing not at the colour. Making something like Gehirn suggested seems nice too.

Or maybe just the usual asdf from your keyboard and try to remap it somehow and then put something on your screen something like that: http://www.rodsbot.com/images_maps_cache/3363-map-assoc.jpg

Some people, who join really late (during the free play) or join when the game already starts but they don’t wish to participate until the entire playlist is done, also get 0. I knew this because my 0 always comes from those two situations.

Also, it’s immature and selfish to ask Anet to never make a mini game just because you’re incapable to play that mini game.

This is obviously a case of an individual either:

A) Not reading the directions first, or
B) Not understanding them

Honestly after coming back to their thread to simply state they got 0 again implies they did not read the responses that attempted to educate in place of in-game directions.

I find it highly likely this is a situation much like Luthan stated where they are hitting the notes as soon as they appear on the screen, before they reach the target area.

To the OP (if you bother reading): This isn’t Defender, where you snipe targets when they’re still far away from you. It’s like Frequency or Amplitude, where you wait until the notes have almost reached you (crossing the white circle into the blue center) before you press the correct note in timing with the music.

reading really helps in this minigame.. at first I always killed myself stupidly, until I reread the instructions (this time more carefully).. now I just finally got 600 on the lower part, trying for middle next.

some tips:

  • never play a note to soon, wait until the light is completely in the blue circle and you’ll have about 1 second to hit the button from then on.
  • if you lose health – once the song is finished (and the event states ‘waiting for players’) you can just hit any number and get healed up again.

but to just get the achievement: that’s insanely easy, even easier than the other ones (jp or snowball fight). if you have trouble with the faster pieces, the first 2 songs are really easy for everyone bothering to read the instructions and trying more than 5 minutes..
you can miss more than every second note (nearly 2 notes per one correct, if you look at the dmg/healing you get) and still not die – allowing you to finish the few songs necessary for the achievement easily, even if it takes some time.

I watched someone try it and get 0. Basically, when the colors appear, they begin to freak out then attempt to press the button either far too early or late. Imagine having a 2s lag. As soon as multiple circles start to appear, head explodes.

They only attempted it twice, then walked away, so I did it for them.

I repeat: the timing thing is simply not true for every person with every latency on every graphics setting. I have experienced different “sweet spots” at different times of day. Generally, if I wait until a note is completely in the blue, I will not get credit for it. I was getting zeros until I figured that out. Now, barring lag spikes, I always score above 590.

Keep hitting notes until you get one you don’t miss, and then aim for that distance. That distance will PROBABLY be within the blue circle, but it may not be.

Geeze, this warrants a L2P. Also, please don’t feed the troll.

Asides from the deployment hiccup, I think the winter’s day event has been great so far, minus the few annoyances. It might take a while to learn the timing of the game, but once you get it it’s not too difficult. Have you attempted to put any effort in it? Don’t expect everything to go your way at your first try. GW2 is an MMO, but those mini games borrow ideas from other genre (which you may not be familiar or good at), which I think are great.

Just because you suck and put 0 effort in it, calling out to have those mini games removed (or never appear in the future) from the game is selfish at the very least.
