the jump puzzle is frustrating. not fun....
I found the puzzle fun and easy.
Then don’t do it? It might have some frustrating moments, but overall it not really that hard and it felt pretty good beating it.
Aren’t there existing threads that deal with such complaints? Why did you have to make another one? :|
/pointless.
Op… just do what I do with all JPs in the game.
Skip it.
When are people going to figure out there’s a war going on?
HA! THE JOKE’S ON YOU! Anet actually HATES the holidays and wants to make ALL players suffer with this awful event.
/BahHumbug
But seriously, I found it challenging and enjoyable.
Did it on my first try. All those Mad King Clock Tower runs got me pretty good at this.
Had FUN with it. Was easy too.
Apparently you werent around for the Clock Tower.
Meh I found it kind of bland. The only frustrating part is the wind gust that comes from Bizzaro-timing-land. >.>
I just wish there was some kind of checkpoint
It was frustrating for me too, because this was way too easy! I wanted something challenging like clocktower, but of course, after so much players were flaming, they make now only jumping puzzles in baby mode -.-
the point of a winter event should be FUN, not frustration….
Some people find fun in challenging things. If you make them too easy then it’s not fun, it’s boring. Spending 10 to 15 minutes plinking away at the jellyfish beast is easy AND boring (the issues have more to do with its extreme HP pool than it does with its easiness, though reducing its HP while increasing its challenge level would be a good change but I digress)
Jumping puzzle was ‘fun’ and not really frustrating because there are few ‘cheap’ deaths. Everything can be mitigated by skill and perhaps practice (and NOT using a touchpad).
Clocktower was fun too and even MORE challenging than this, but it was also frustrating because of how everyone got ‘stacked’ together so that you had big players (charr, norn) blocking the view of smaller players for like 1/2 of the puzzle which lead to a lot of cheap (frustrating) deaths as well as the camera issues caused by using a more ‘overhead’ camera perspective to try and mitigate the player stacking problem. That said clocktower was fun once you learned to deal with that frustrating element of it.
My personal ratings for the Halloween and Wintersday JPs:
Wintersday JP
FUN: 6/10
CHALLENGE: 5/10
FRUSTRATING: 3/10 (automatic 2 for the waiting duration)
Halloween JP (Clocktower)
FUN: 8/10 (It’s a 5 till you learn to deal with the frustrating aspects, and would be a 10 without them)
CHALLENGE: 8/10
FRUSTRATING: 6/10
Griffonrook Run w/bomb (normal JP — added for comparison)
FUN: 3/10 (would be a 6 without so many ‘cheap’ deaths)
CHALLENGE: 9/10
FRUSTRATING: 8/10 (sometimes getting hit without a chance to dodge accounts for at least 4 frustration points)

LOL, clock tower for me was the pits! I can see nothing with all the Norns and charrs in front of me and duly gave up after trying for an hour. Did Wintersday’s in around 20-25mins, granted I’m not a fantastic player with jumping but I still did it! Keep trying Vaelic, it’s not as tough as u thought. Play around with camera angles, mouse control (press right click thru out the jumping) and also, add other players into a party and see hthe route they take if u fell off early and try to learn. Talk to those that completed it alrdy at the waiting area and ask for more tips. You can do it and it’ll be fun when u get another 5 ugly sweaters from the pressies, lol =)
Easy peasy. I just farm it…
Well unless 4 chars r there.
I could clear Griffonrook Run without any problem. Zero frustration. Because it is not timed so it is really fun. I could even stop anywhere to view the great scenery created by their artists.
Wintersday JP is 10/10 frustration. It is not challenging if not timed. I have 0/10 fun because of the time. There is no scenery that you can enjoy while being pushed by time. Anything like this is 0/10 fun and 10/10 frustration, that’s why some people wants to fool others after completed them. They aren’t actually happy for completing, instead of some hidden frustration they don’t even realize themselves. It is like you are given a luxurious dinner but you need to finish eating them in 1 minute or it will be confiscated.
The time constraint ruins all the fun that many players could have attained. This is the cheap game style in some old games that only have a small number of stages so they have to time it and make you start all over again to prolong the life of the game.
This JP could be fun. But I gave up after 4 tries, simply because of the waiting time between tries. I hate that with a passion.
????
Frustration is part of it right? Like when Legendary Imbued Shaman one shot half the party and the rest died trying to Rez those down and we have to restart the boss fight? Or the Ice Shardz, or the Arcane-forgotten-his-title in Clifffside or Champion Karka OP barrel roll?
Frustration makes u wanna do it all the more but even if u don’t , so what? It’s a only a game and the actual real person who really care if anyone owns a Legendary, or clear Map Completion, or a certain Achievement, is really themselves and nobody else.
I encourage Vaelic to do it simply bcos I really think is doable and I want him/her to feel the satisfaction of completing it.
And it’s timed, if not u wont be able to keep doing it again to open the chest again, and making changes to existing map will be too huge a change to make that will prolly be not practical.

I thought that if you do it with the bomb, you only have a certain amount of time to get the bomb to the sealed chest before it explodes.
I know you can get the achievement without carrying the bomb. But doing it with the bomb is an exercise in frustration. It took me 3 or so times to get to the end w/o bomb — but I also attempted GR over 200 times with bomb before giving up in frustration. I guess it wasnt worth the effort and i’m glad that ANet does not require you to do it with the bomb for the achievement.

To the OP: I’m sorry but I completely disagree with your opinion. I found the JP completely fun. I am not a great jumping puzzle person. I am decent at it but not super great. I found this one very fun and even after the first hour it took me to solve it, I will play it every day I can.
To the creator of the JP: Thank you for creating this wonderful JP. You are amazing and I hope you keep creating these events similar in skill and timing. It’s great. I love it. I wish it would stay in the game all year long.
The frustration come from other people hiding the platforms (especially big norn and charr) to you so you are not sure when to jump, apart from that the puzzle is pretty awesome.
I disagree. I’ve not failed once with this jumping puzzle. Then again, I’m one of the people who really, really enjoy these. I fell in love with the mad king’s clock tower.
If these jumping puzzles aren’t your thing, why are you even attempting, then whining about it? Just ignore them.
The best way I found to get around the issue of big players blocking the view of platforms is to either be far ahead of them (by going super fast and jumping like an endboss), or even more easily to let them get slightly ahead of you so that their big bodies arent blocking your view of your character.
The timing in this puzzle is not nearly as unforgiving as it is in clocktower so you can waste a tick or two standing still to let the big guys get ahead a bit.
I’m an Asura and I approve this message.

exactly – if they didn’t change it.
the griffinrook puzzle IS timed, is way less forgiving than the wintersday puzzle (you can’t stop at all if theres a griff in range, you also have to have dodge enabled etc, whereas for wintersday you can disable dodgeing) and while the jumps are easy, there are lots of red herrings in regards of where to go – the ‘correct’ path isn’t that long (also there seems to be a shortcut, but that’s cheating ;-) )
so Hologramx probably just didn’t get how the puzzle worked.
wintersday puzzle is fun, I run it from time to time to collect presents =) the waiting time definately is no fun (though at least the area is fun for the first few minutes).
I just wish they’d ALSO (not only) add longer, more complex puzzles wich aren’t timed (timed elements like moving parts/traps are cool) and have checkpoints, but are generally harder need more precision when jumping. the eternal battlegrounds one is really incredible – I’d love to do that one without the constant camping/sieging enemies, even if it wouldn’t give treasure =)
