Is there a point to this? I have heard about an achievement called ‘Cold Weather Friend’ or something similar but I am not sure if it is still in the game or not. Is there a point to actually using magic snow?

There was an achievement for it last year, now there is just daily. I think that they already got the assets so they put it into the game and since there is no achieve for it in the meta, they added some to the dailies at least.
Seeing as people were kittening about “Smash X number of pinatas”, “Interact Y times with this” etc. in the meta-achievement (and having a number around 100 or 200 interacts) and they removed that type of achievement, it´s a good progress

They can also be used during the Escort the Dolyak events, or the Knockdown the Skritt events, or the Pelt Someone with a Snowball events, as building a Snowman also creates quite a few snowballs.

There’s a daily for building snowmen sometimes, and the ones in Lion’s Arch are also very helpful during the Dolyak escorts, as there are a number of Skritt on rooftops who can only be hit by snowballs, and you basically need to build snowmen to get enough snowballs to take them down since there are very few scattered around the ground normally.

And who doesn’t like building snowmen? They’re fun.
