I really don’t understand the idea behind removing a map and having 3 copies of a new map.
First of all the new map has too much ground to cover for the current server population. Second of all, 3 version of the same map just seems like a less than ideal solution to the WvW server balance problem.
I would recommend the following:
1- Remove EotM from it’s current karma farm system
2- Have 4 WvW maps: EBG, Alpine BL, Desert BL, EotM
3- Bring back the Orb to the Alpine BL map, make it so that a server that has the Orb for over 24 hours gain control of the citadel.
4- Make it so that Server are all merged on an 3-Alliances based system. Create overflows every week according to the world population of the previous week, let people have a main overflow, and guest to other overflows when their overflow is full, with a penalty to XP or loot.
5- Make the matches best out of 7 days, with a winner and reward every daily reset. For example if servers are tied 2-2-2 the last day would be a really intense fight to win. Each day should be also divided in smaller four-hours long matches (without keep upgrade resetting); In case of a draw the server with the most player kills should win.
6- Every map should have a mechanic that has repercussions on another map.
A new system similar to what I propose would guarantee both map variety, server balance, player involvement in the scoring mechanic and a fight intensity that increase as the week progresses.
That said, everything about the new map looks amazing.

EoTM was built for it’s karma farming system though and fixed some of the problems we had in the standard WvW with people who would only join to farm karma and not defend anything.

No to the return of the orbs since it was a such a target for hackers to fly around with the orbs and thus the reason for orbs removal.

Yes I do. Anet promised it would be back once they could prevent the hacking. Don’t tell me that after 3 years they still can’t prevent hacking.

I 100% disagree with you there, I don’t understand how you can think that? Especially with so many new+returning players now and when the expansion comes out. Unless you play in T7-9 that statement shouldn’t apply. If you are concerned about WvW then you should move to a server in a higher tier with a larger population to support WvW play.

Ummm…. 3 of the same maps was never a solution to WvW, it is originally how its been. Having 3 separate maps for each borderland would be a terrible idea.
They won’t bring back the orbs b/c they have new maps. The new maps are kittening INSANE, much better than the alpine maps.. The new map actually does help servers with low population b/c it encourages more forces instead of just 1 blob.
Your 4th point, not even gonna comment on b/c that is just ridiculous.
Same with the 5th point.

Your 4th point, not even gonna comment on b/c that is just ridiculous.
Is it? Because some big companies out there don’t think it is, and think it’s way better than having 10 empty servers.
As for point 5 it would fix what is a completely broken PPT system that only represent server coverage. I don’t see how that would be ridiculous.

Having 3 of the same maps is for balance. Each server has a different spawn on each map. Therefore, no server has an advantage / disadvantage by having a certain spawn.

WvW has been neglected since launch, even though it was their plan to add new maps on a rotation.
Yet now we get a replacement map, but no rotation.
WvW have posted countless posts on how to improve WvW, but Anet simply does not listen.

Yes, thanks for your reply. What I’m proposing isn’t really 3 “borderlands” but more a new system where the 3 maps are independent, yet contribute to the same scoring.
Second improvement I wish the most for is that there is rewards at different temporal scale of the matchups. So that even if you only play 2 hours you feel you have accomplished something, or that even if you lose the week you could have won a few days.
I know most of this has been proposed by the community in greater details, I just wished Anet would listen and at the same time remind them that what we need is more than a map but a matchup system overhaul.

I agree that they should remove the "home borderland" idea, and adapt the maps for working like EBG/EotM in that there is no Citadel/Spawn advantage.
That way they could add multiple maps without the Borderland favoritism system. That would open up to have both Desert and Alpine active at the same time. And even when they add another map, or two for a rotation of maps each week.

Problem: EotM refers both to the *map* and the *Overflow system*. So every time someone talks about EotM people focus on different aspects of it.
The map itself I would have no/little problems with being introduced into normal WvW. I like some variation, and for those that doesn’t like the map, stay on EBG etc.
The Overflow system part of it however, I can do well without in ordinary WvW.
(Though creative use of it during off hours could be interesting, to effectively combine 2-3 servers during say night time, to slightly populate the maps. This would play havoc on the PPT system, not that I care much about that myself)

Failure? It is a very popular map. It is normal to see people filling 3 overflows of EoTM.
It is part of the play how you want philosophy. Some players will not defend because you get more reward attacking and letting the enemy flip. This also happens in normal wvw maps depending on the hour and tier you are playing. If you want to go and defend go ahead and do it.
EoTM is a complete success. Some people even use it to do gvgs inter-tiers.

So you now try ad hominen because you have no arguments? FYI I play normal wvw and was part of pretty much any decent fighting guild that existed on my server.

People have been abusing EotM mechanics just to get loot. It’s not the way the map was intended to be played, specially when some guilds are on multiple servers in order to coordinate all sides and bypass the fighting/defending aspect of the game. It’s overshadowing the competitive potential the EotM map had.

Whilst I agree that WvW could do with new, better and more interesting mechanics, I was listening to someone who works in the industry in our WvW TS who was semi-ranting about how they go about things. I’m amazed, having heard what he had to say, that we have anything approaching a reasonable system as it is. Many of the old systems are unfathomable to newly recruited programmers because they had no involvement in their creation and it would take forever to implement the simplest of changes to existing code. This is why you often see new systems being implemented but not old ones being fixed. Oftentimes, as with the orbs and quaggans, a system will be completely removed and replaced rather than fixed.
