Took 3 hrs to load enough to play, once I’m in and running around was overcame with confusion. So hard to tell if i was going into a camp,or a tower, or a keep, or if it was just some kind of ruins. Why must the new maps be a blend of SW and EOTM, both of which serious WvWers do not consider WvW. To be honest I was only there about an hour due to Necro being bugged and plan to try again. Hopefully my first impression will improve with more play, I hate the thought of losing the enjoyment of WvW. Please dont lose the currant maps, you might want to try just improving them if WvWers leave the game enmasse.

One hour is not enough experience of the map to make a call on the maps.

The keeps/towers/camps/shrines all have icons.

An hour in I used a golem on the wrong wall for a tower.

You have to look at the map from the map menu. Its laid out the exact same way the Alpine BL’s are only this one has an event in the middle instead of ruins.

The part that is confusing is all the clutter and small passage ways that don’t really seem necessary. In addition to that, I can see how the layers/levels can make it more confusing than it needs to be. For example, just stairs like in Hills would work fine instead of portals and stairways that lead up and down and wrap around all over the place.

After more gameplay and getting to know the map better I now see some potential for the Desert BL. My main concern right now is the terrain. I was never good at JP and since I play Necro never had much stability. There seem to be countless ways on this map to fall or be pushed off cliffs or into lava. With the spread of stealth and migration of players to cuddled classes such as mesmers, it is easy to foresee a few players suddenly destealth next to a group and push them to their demise. Camp guards also need to be buffed more, the earlier statement of guards being tougher seems to not be true. Have not used the majority of new gadgets and defenses yet so have no comment on them. Desert BL appears to be EOTM influenced, hopefully it wont become like it.

I agree, even after the 2-3 hours I played, I was getting the hang of getting around. There are all sorts of traps, dead ends, sheer cliffs and other terrain features that clever players will take advantage of and will make play interesting.

Many WvW players have already pointed out that it’s “too similar” to EotM, that there’s too much PvE, all sorts of reasons why it’s bad. There is a complaint that it doesn’t allow for GvG, too big, k-training, etc. I think EotM became a k-train is because it was allowed to. The borderlands are a fight area, EotM is just whatever. If EotM was the main borderlands, it would be something other than a k-train, I’m pretty sure. And in the new borderlands there seems to be plenty of space to GvG.

I’ve been playing WvW a shorter time than others, and, personally, I’m getting kinda bored. I’m looking forward to the change.
