An Ingame Represantation of WoodenPotatoes
I am in!! WoodenPotatoes was the man that made me play gw from the begging
Definitely keen on this. His videos kept me entertained, although painful to watch due to the anticipation, during the months leading up to betas and launch.
SO WHAT if he cherry picks his favourite theories, he doesn’t claim to be the ultimate source of GW lore. I (and a lot of other people) find his videos entertaining and informative. A lot of his videos are speculative and he’s also the first to admit that. He even calls some of them “rants.”
Yet people come on the lore forums, posting links to his videos, presenting them as evidence. THIS I have a problem with. It’s fine that WP makes mistakes, and speculates on the lore. And it’s great that he gets people interested in lore. But he doesn’t correct his errors, yet people still perceive him as a lore expert. It’s painful for the actual lore community to constantly have to point out that WP is not a good source for lore.
His latest is on the reactor (which hasn’t even come out yet) and he’s put together a very, VERY interesting possibility.
Have you read the lore forums on the reactor? You might find that even more interesting.
So if you think someone else deserves the same treatment then make your own thread and suggest them, but to come in and be all negative just speaks volumes about what type of person you are, and the other jealous negative types trying to disrupt this thread.
Jealous? I don’t think anyone who has stated to be against this idea, has stated that they want the recognition for themselves. You seem to be misunderstanding how important it is for us, that people are interested in the actual lore, and read what has been studied. We really want people to be invested in GW2’s lore. But we also want them to read the articles from the people that know what they’re talking about. WP has the right spirit, and a great way to get people interested, but he doesn’t have the facts. It’s painful to have people come in on the lore forums saying “did you see that new theory WP brought forth in his new video”, without reading the in depth studies that the lore community has already done on the subject, which refutes many of his ideas.
It’s kind of like someone running into a history class and screaming, “did you guys hear, the great pyramids may have been build by aliens!”
Konig where is your body of work since you pride yourself on GW lore so much? Perhaps that’s what you should focus on instead of trying to discredit WP so much.
And THIS makes me even more sad. Some random poster who has no idea how many years Konig has studied the lore of Guild Wars, comes in and calls him jealous. As if he’s never written an article on lore. People like Konig and Gmr Leon have been a huge contribution to the lore community over the years. A lot of you have no idea what you’re talking about. The hundreds of articles and in depth studies on the Mursaat for starters. There’s a wealth of information out there, massive volumes of work. Yet people come down on them as if they’ve not made anything close to the contribution that WP has.
That is such an insulting reversal of the facts.

First of all Konig very good responses. For those who don’t like all the quotes and such; well then I am sorry you had to see them but Konig was able to get his point across a lot more clearly. At least to me, not that I am saying anyone has to justify themselves.
At this point though we’ll have to agree to disagree. I have not seen every video so I won’t make claims how he does or doesn’t do X and Y. What I have seen I have enjoyed and has gotten me interested in the lore of GW and excited for the game. The mystery series from what I’ve watch have always had some sort of disclaimer. If other fans or posters here decide not to listen to it or ignore it, well then that is a shame.
If I want to know what the community thinks on these theories and videos then I come here and look at threads and get a deeper understanding. I am not into reading the wiki for lore though and sadly the game (GW2) does not do an amazing job for a casual lore guy like myself to connect all the dots and follow the various bread crumbs.
I guess I really like speculation as well. I am awaiting to see what scarlet does to divinity reach come the 20th.
Wow finally! Four pages of arguing and you just now provide a link to the lore that Konig and Gmr Leon have written. I’ve never heard of those people or been to that site but I can never read enough lore so I will check it out.
When I googled gw lore WP came up and that’s how I discovered him. You can’t blame us for not knowing about people on a site buried somewhere in the internet.
To be fair, I did post my own links, but they may have been easy to miss since I tend to fancy them up a bit. As to the site buried on the internet bit…Those were honestly some of the more popular sites for GW1 back in the day before we had official forums, albeit Guru grew more popular closer to release as GWO declined in popularity.
Nevertheless, I would encourage you to use the Guru archives over my Central Archives. While the latter were the beginnings of the project, my interest waned and I failed to both properly reorganize them and thoroughly update them. Although it should be noted, with the decline of activity on GWO, there honestly wasn’t much to update to begin with.

The Adventurer’s Log!
He does an ok job, which gets way too overrated. Dulfy’s work is years away from what him or anyone else has done for the community.
What exactly is she doing for the community? I am pretty sure she doesn’t contribute anything to the wiki.
She has a homepage with ads, that obviously needs clicks to generate money, that’s it.

WoodenPotatoes is awesome!
