Announcing GW2 Sidekick for Android!
Personally, I’ve gone through so many of these. and most worked pretty well with great features(some aren’t even on the store anymore) although they nearly all consisted of the same features. Hopefully ANet will soon release the API’s that allow devs to really push mobile companion apps forward… urm...CHAT!
Having said that, I’ll definitely be testing this one out and reviewing it as it goes.
Thanks for taking your time on this!
Question: You didn’t mention WvW, is this because of the current plans to overhaul, thus you prefer to focus on other areas first and go for WvW later once the changes to the systems are in place and we actually know more about, or is there another reason? I’m an avid WvWer, but I would understand this, especially if they overhaul it this year and the core changes are deep. It would be scrapped work.
Edit: Would be nice to have this as the go-to app for all things GW2. And sure this would be a long ways away, but stuff like GW2 News, Twitter updates, Patch Notes, etc would be cool.

Well, it looks good from what I was able to see.
I checked my characters, and the overview (wow… that’s a lot of hours played…), but when I checked the wallet, it crashed. And now it crashes every time right after the splash screen.
I tried it on my tablet too, and it crashed on the third screen change (inventory instead of wallet this time).
Uninstalling and reinstalling had it working as far as getting past the API key and to the menu screen, but hitting anything at this point caused a crash.
One final test… I find I can freely switch between overview and characters as often as I want, and was able to view my main’s equipment (not sure how you switch characters?), but trying to view any other screen (I think I tried Bank this time) causes a crash.
The devices used are:
Samsung Galaxy Core Prime with Android 4.4.4
Motorola Xoom tablet with Android 4.1.2
I hope you can get this figured out.

Thanks. I appreciate the interest and look forward to hearing your views on it !
You didn’t mention WvW
Currently, I would like to wait until the overhauls are done. That being said, if I were to add WvW things (It’s definitely on the list just don’t know where in line yet) I am not sure whether it would be using maps and such since the view space on phones and tablets are not very large for that. Tossing around some ideas on how a good mobile-esque version would look.

This is absolutely the plan. I plan on continually updating features. I am only a 1 man team so updates at times may be slow but I plan on integrating many more components to make it very feature filled and quick to use.
I hope you can get this figured out.
Your explaination and crash reporting were very thorough. Thanks for taking the time to notice the issue ! Turns out it is a backward compatibility issue with a certain screen element I am using. I should have a hotfix out very soon !
Edit: Update 2.0.1 should solve this compatibility issue. Please let me know if anything else comes up.
not sure how you switch characters?
If you click your character (top of the navigation menu) you will see a drop down list of all your characters and you can select one. I am testing some nicer ways to make this process easier.

Well, the update just came through and good news – almost everything works now! I was able to access all screens except “Inventory”, which produced the same crash pattern as before. (On the Samsung w/ 4.4.4 – I have not tested it on other devices yet).
Other than that minor problem, it looks good. I especially like that I can tap on an item and get a complete description of it.
Also, selecting “Settings” gives a warning pop-up about changing sync times, but does not appear to do anything else.
A thought on character selection: What if you added the current character’s name to the red titlebar and allowed tapping that to change it? (I admit I have very little experience with the Android programming environment, so I don’t really know what the system allows or what your limitations are.)
Glad I could be of help. Having had programming experience (waaaay back in the 8-bit days) I know how annoying bug-catching can be. Detailed information is infinitely better than “Not work, Fix mohr better!”

oops, missed one should be resolved as of 2.0.2.
Also, selecting “Settings” gives a warning pop-up about changing sync times, but does not appear to do anything else.
The pop-up is intended, but it should only appear once as a warning (after you acknowledge it once) for performance changes.

And fixed it is!

That makes sense. I guess I didn’t see the final menu because I’d end up crashing and reinstalling before trying ‘settings’ again, thus resetting all the flags. Now that I’m no longer crashing the system, I see the settings screen.
Everything looks good. It’s stable and I haven’t encountered any more problems. Good work!
The only feature I see missing is access to the crafting bank. Unless I’m missing something insanely obvious.
