Custom Figure of your Character Survey
I would totally take a custom figurine of my character and would even pay huge amounts of money if it is as good as the Rytlock CE edition figure.
If its reasonable quality, reasonable price, and ships to the UK without the usual “this item now costs twice as much, because of crazy international delivery prices… and it’ll still get stuck in customs till someone remembers to ask you to pay import duty” then I’ll take several
I’d pay for that.
Better get mastery points in pottery and potter myself a clay model
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)
80 Ele (2), 80 Engi (3), 80 Rev (2)
Obviously the survey is meaningless 4 years on, however I do occasionally check the community creations subforum for commission based artists. I have thought of getting sculpted miniatures of my mmo toons, especially my GW2 ones.
I think I mentioned a couple of months back of a 3D print company, Eucl3d, who looks to be offering custom prints from a various of games.
However this is a big time necrothread.
RIP City of Heroes
Nice post necro…
The best option for a custom figure would be 3D printing. There are methods to “extract” models from the game files then save them in obj format. For example that’s how data miners find and render models of new armor before the armor is even released. Then you send that obj to a company that does 3D printing, or do it yourself if you have such a printer.
There are some applications out there that take a model in obj format, then make it “suitable” for 3D printing, because models obtained with the extraction method won’t be print-friendly (usually).
If its good quality+good paintjob I would pay up to $150 without thinking.
Give me a few more months. I’m currently starting up my own 3d print company. I’ll be using resin not gypsum powder. With the print bed I’ll be able to make 11" figures. Not just of game characters (licenses must be negotiated), but I’ll be able to take a series of photographs of people and customize them however they want. School took up my entire time these past few months so I’m delayed, but I was still able to present my business plan to some investors. I’ll be launching a kickstarter soon after the holidays.
Interesting that this topic came up now since I’m pretty much done with my entire college education and am prepping to delve into the business full-time.
Last quick thing, I’m able to do all of this blind using Maya Productions.
