I’ve recently gotten back to writing and I’m liking the escape etc. I was wondering. How do others know if they should keep submiting new work? A cursory view here shows most do not get comments or replies. This is fine I guess, perhaps the readers aren’t moved to leave them. My question is, do we just go by numbers of views and hope people really do read our work, and don’t just look and leave?

Let me start by saying that this little corner of the forum does not get a lot of traffic compared to many other sections of the forum. This sub forum seems to get like-minded individuals seeking a different facet of the Guild Wars realm outside the basic gameplay aspect.

I would have to say the genre submitted here tends to fall into 2 different categories

  • Multimedia presentations (Graphical, Acoustic or Video) – These are the people doing artwork for fun or commission and Youtube videographers
  • Literary presentations (Storytellers, Lyricists and Poets) – These are the people who express their spin on the GW universe through the written word

How do others know if they should keep submiting new work?

Well, there is just no good way in the context of the forum. Page hits depend on timing, for example:

  • You post a piece of work that is shear literary genius but right after that a bunch of other posts come in that push your gem off the front page and into the oblivion of the evil page 2 then it just won’t get seen by many people.

People don’t tend to post in your literary masterpieces because if they do it could interrupt the flow of a possible continuation of your creative process.

I would have to say if you are looking for community support or critical acclaim for your writing, I would not expect much of that here. Though, I have received more personal PM’s than reciprocating comments in my postings. I find the personal PM much more satisfying then a post in my thread.

My advice, if you like to write…do it for yourself, if you please others in the process…more the better

That works. My concern was not adulation but keeping the story on point and true to the characters. But to be honest I guess I’d need input from Anet and they have enough to contend with already lol I guess no news is good news!

Thanks!
