It’s happened to us all…sometimes when we’re playing the game for the first time, but more hilariously when our friends join us for the first time. They hear the comments uttered by our characters and if they’re unfamiliar with the game, some highly amusing misinterpretations take place.
In my case it’s in my guild’s vent, which covers a number of games…LOTRO, D3 and others in addition to GW2. We’re not that strict on the whole “stay in the channel whose game you’re playing” bit, we just go where the crowd is. Which usually means the LOTRO crowd piles in with me since I’m generally the first person online in the evenings. And they listen as Tyria’s battles unfold. When opening my mike to talk, I’ve been asked the following questions:
“For great dusters? What does that mean?”
“Did that guy just say ‘take it off’?”
“kitten!!! What was that?” (after a roar from the Shatterer)
“Whose face is funny?”
And my favorite, from Tequatl’s spawn dialogue:
“‘Back to the turrets’? Y’all have turrets, like in Portal?”
