I am trying to become better at digital art (and just art in general, as I am quite abysmal at either), and I’ve always taken great love to the art style of GW2’s loading screens/large story cutscenes. Does anyone have any advice on how I might start improving my artistic abilities? Or perhaps getting some of the effects that are displayed in the game? I found the wiki page and have been looking through Kekai’s work, and it’s extraordinary, but I cannot even begin to imagine how to make art like that.
I don’t know where to find them, but ArenaNet used to put out videos by some of the artists showcasing that style, and how it is achieved. They might be on the official ArenaNet YouTube channel.
Good luck.
It might sound boring but if you are going to learn to draw, first thing first, learn how to draw proper proportions (i still can’t do them well but i am very lazy and painting is just my hobby). You can use all amazing colors if you want, if proportions are too wonky, you yourself won’t like your pictures and will get frustrating. Sadly it takes time and a lot of patience (if you really want to improve, draw people every day, sketches are enough). There are plenty of guides on anatomy and color theory in internet (you will need those 2 for very basics).
As far as effects go, photoshop brushes and tablet are your friends.
