Hi, my name is Jon Penney and I am a member of a group called Transatlantic Rampage. We are a competitive team who have been making a lot of noise in the competitive scene with sights on becoming involved with eSports for GW2. Right along with Alpha Collective, Team Imperial and several other competitive teams in the game right now.

The question is, does the community want GW2 to be a part of eSports?
Let me explain a bit more in-depth. I, an eSports fanatic, would love to see it happen and not just for personal reason (though it would be awesome to take part in the eSports). In the end what I do, what we do, and what we want to do is offer the community not just entertainment but we want to give back to you. In other games this is often done with guides, strategies, gameplay videos, and streams. Right now we are in the early days of GW2, but it is apparent to a lot of us who are trying our best to be the best that there is a great possibility for eSports in GW2. Some guides, streams, and videos are out there, but we want to offer you the best but it is all for not if it is not seen. We, the teams, can offer you, the community, a lot but we need to work together.

If you want eSports to become part of GW2, if you want content such as guides, videos, strategies, and streams we need you to want it. Come watch our streams, support the different teams, spread the word.

Games don’t become part of eSports without an audience who wants it to. We need an audience. A lot of us believe that this will happen but raising awareness never hurts. So tune in to streaming sites like Twitch.tv, look me up (TR_aSith) and the rest of us out there like Alpha Collective and Team Imperial.

TLDR; We, the competitive teams, want eSports to be a part of GW2. Do you?

First of all: I’m surprised that there has not come any replies but mine (may be it’s bugged or something for me).

Second and OnT: I, personally, do not feel that the game engine is good enough for eSports. The biggest and the most important factor in any game which has eSports in them is the instant reactions and a way to involve advanced strategies. Now i’m not very sure about the strategies, but from what i can tell i (as an elementalist) just runs around and try to keep everything on cd for the highest amount of damage. May be i’m doing something, may be not. The thing is that i does not feel like i’m doing any difference at all. I can’t see the damage I do, not in a way that i notice it any how, which i find very annoying and i expect it to be even harder if spectating a game. The general gameplay is just a lot of A. Aoe spells all over the place or B. A melee profession which spams all his spells, showing nothing at all.
About things being instant: It’s not. Perhaps that wont affect the viewer of eSports as much as the players playing it, but any sensible man would see/feel that the feel of GW2 is a lot slower than the feel of any other competitive game (like cs 1.6, WoW, SC2, Quake, Halo or similar), where everything really is instant.

So conclusion: Sure, it would be fun to see GW2 as a competitive eSport, although i do not believe that the game is meant for it.

I played the old GW and loved the PVP aspect of that game. I also liked to observe guildwar’s and other PVP stuff with the observer mode (don’t know all names in english^^). I think if the observer mode is in the game, then there could be competent casters that explain all the diversity of a situation to you. But personally I don’t like to watch player livestreams because you can only see one person in action from behind and not the whole match. Perhabs this could change as soon as I get into PVP with my beloved mesmer and find some PRO mesmer stream with advices for me.

@TR_aSith: Hope you can create some content with your guild that a casual gamer like me can enjoy. Best of luck!
