Someone started a thread about a Guild Wars tabletop RPG. I love this idea, and want to start working on it.
Officially we are going to create a whole new system, probably based off of various systems we already are familiar with (i.e. Pathfinder, D&D 3.5, Gurps, D20, etc.)
We want this project to be by the community, for the community. Once it reaches it’s final stage, we will be releasing it so all can enjoy!
Stay tuned for more updates and information.

Yes, yes and yes. I was planning on starting a Guild Wars tabletop anyway so I’d like to help.
Read the thread in the main forum and decided to answer here as well.
This is actually something I have been thinking about since GW2 came out.
My personal choice of system at the moment would be 13th Age, very similar to 4th ed DnD, we tried 5th ed and found it was too much a step backwards. 13th Age is a fairly standard D20 system, so handles combat fairly well and with my group, fantasy games nearly always end up with combat, investigations and storytelling seem more geared to other genres, but that is partly down to systems. The classes already have different mechanics for different classes so there are already plenty of options for working out how GW2 classes would fit, and the multiclass system isn’t too bad so it would be possible to hark back to GW as well. 13th Age is also open licence so there is already a lot of fan created stuff that might be worth looking at.
I tried creating my own system for another fantasy game years ago, and while fun, it was incredibly hard work so I would rather adapt a system these days.

I agree with the combat focus, but I believe Guild Wars also has a more ’’social’’ side too (the political intrigue in DR for example). Storytelling would play a huge part for me but that could be just the writer inside me speaking :p

Nice find on the Sylvari.
Abilities into GW stats:
I am trying to figure out a way to combine the 6 Abilities (STR, DEX, INT, WIS, CHA, CON) to a format more fitting to the Guild Wars stats. (Power, Precision, Toughness, Vitality) I might be able to include Ferocity as well, but not really seeing it. Some of these translate well (Power = STR, Precision = DEX, and Vitality = CON) But what about toughness, INT, WIS, and CHA? Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t think most of the Guild Wars abilities are so easy to translate. I agree on the Power=STR and Vitality=CON, but I don’t think Precision would be a good match with DEX simply because they are based on different things.
Precision is a stat which measures your critical chance and doesn’t have much to do with anything else.
DEX is used to describe how athletic a character is, I don’t think your critical chance has much to do with your ability to balance on a pole for example.
Let’s say you are playing a minion necro (basically the damage you deal is primarily caused by your minions and not by yourself.), for this player it wouldn’t be helpful to take too many points in precision because his minions do the damage and not himself. However it would also mean that his athletic abilities are limited because of this.
IF the stat would be directly translated it would lose its original meaning.
Toughness is another stat that can’t really be translated since it is basically a stat that raises your armour rating, some goes for ferocity since it is in a similiar situation as precision.
I talked to a buddy of mine who came up with a solution. Something precision = dex + into / 2 or something like that. Same for toughness and the rest. Kind of a mix between them. He said he’ll have something for me this weekend.
Honestly, I’d be interested, but as I tend to play and write more ‘indie’ games, I have a very different perspective on game design…

And if we are going to create a whole new system, a very different perspective is something that can prove to be invaluable in such endeavors. I would love to hear some of your input on the matter.
Send cloudjsh.7814 a PM. This is basically his baby, and he’s trying to organize a group to put this together. I’m just helping out with the “marketing” (so to speak.)

Sorry, yes. I am moving forward on my own and with any who want to join me. The original person went AWOL. Only heard from him once, and it was him saying something came up. So, I have been talking wiht a couple of people on skype. PM me for my info, and I’ll try to schedual a more “formal” meeting to get started.
Thanks!!
Hey, gotta say this is pretty awesome. Working on something similar myself as a weird mix a guidelines and homebrew races and sub-classes.
I am using D&D 3.5 rules for mine (not too familiar with Pathfinder). I love the idea of a Tyrian RPG.
If there is anything I can help with let me know. I might have some rules in the system I am working on that will help you out.
I would be quite interested in helping out with this.
I have most of my experience with DMing and writing campaigns and things for D&D 4th & 5th, but I am certain I can adapt to more of the 3.5/Pathfinder style.
Avatar rage: Pathfinder is a modified D&D 3.5 system. It’s basically the same, but a few minor convience changes. (i.e. Perception covers all the senses, instead of a listen check, spot check, hearing check, etc.)
Stangboy: Great! I am a novice GM myself, and haven’t yet written a campaign, so such things will be awesome!
Heya, I’m interested in helping, I have some experience designing RPG systems to be used in MMO’s (WoW namely), and have some experience DMing as well.
Ok ive started a googlle hangouts session here: https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/gz4wytavjfy7xcjiht6oluohiqa
Havent got a time yet, but feel free to join us!
Ok so oir first planning session will be on Wednesday Feb. 18th at 8pm PST. I understand not everyone will be able to attend. But I will record it so everypne can be on the same page. Hope to see you there!!

So our first meeting was a success!! Thanks to all who were able to make it. For those who weren’t, we did take notes (the video didn’t work out for technical reasons).
But we did want to do a follow up meeting for those who weren’t able to attend to bring everyone on the same page. If you can PM me what days/times work best for you, as well as your email address we can coordinate something.
Hope to hear from you!

Don’t really have time to help out but will be following this closely. Looking good
I’d say it should be story/rp based as it usually makes for more fun games, but it needs the mechanics to support it

Exactly, but we want to try to find a way to balance the two. Something that makes it easier to jump into with little preparation and knowledge, but not so easy that you loose out on a fun game in favor of telling a story.
Looks like someone else had the same idea: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2wipgz/so_ive_been_working_on_a_tabletop_conversion/
Ok so there will be another meeting for those who were unable to attend the first one on saturday (2/21) at 4pm PST at the same google hangout. Hope to see you there!!
D&D? No thanks. Sorry for not being more constructive, but this continues to happen, again and again, and every time is the same bad idea: a good setting gets “D&Dized” and withers instantly. And don’t say “pathfinder is not D&D”. Thats like saying ewoks aren’t star wars.

We decided to scrap that idea so as to avoid a D&D clone. We are currently working on a unique system to incorporate the various aspects of GW2 that make the game awesome. We are still in the concept phase, but working on solidifing a workable, easy to use system to do just that.
I actually have a document up that is some work on this exact thing – here’s a link to my system in case you want to check it out!

Very nice!
Would love to see it in action!
Update:
Our team has been working on this project for about 3 months now.
We are creating a brand new system to better capture the things we love about GW2. It’s definitly a work in progress. However, we are nearing our first Alpha test. (YAY!! So excited!!!)
We don’t have a rough timeline, but after the first Alpha test, we will move on to closed Betas (when we fix the glaring problems that will surely arise when our ideas hit the table)
But I just wanted to give you guys an update and let you know that we are still working on this project, and actually making a lot of progress.
Also we are getting closer to needing artwork. If you would like to contribute, or know someone who would, please contact me.
Thanks!

First off nice Jayne sig quote.
That sounds totally awesome, go for it.

Nice!
I’ll have to look into a bit more, but initially it looks kind of cool
