Gw2 : Fours Years Ago
So much hope and spirit back then… They had huge plans… what happened?
Reality -Oft times there are things that can’t be done with the game engine, etc. What looks like a good idea sometimes isn’t in the long run, etc.
A.Net made a decent game. Let’s see what they do in the 3rd yr.
Dat Longbow Warrior skill…
Way better than the one we have now. But I can see why they removed it,but if only Longbow had stronger skill effects,it think it looks so bland right now,I only use it because I like it more than the Rifle
Tnx for linking… nice to have viewed…
One thing I noticed most, the amount of lore exposure seems to really have taken a huge hit from beta to release…

Back then I remember watching all those trailers and being extremely hyped.
I remember how I waited for each class to be revealed and how I wanted to play the Thief as my main.
However soon after launch something happened, the game was gorgeous and beautiful, however the content itself was pretty poor, and continues to be that way to this day.
They had a direction before the launch, now, not so much.
lol. I was waiting for this one as well.

I still waiting for that game. Any news when it will be realeased?
I remember that dye seed system. It was very much for the best they scrapped that, and they did so based on beta feedback. A lot of changes in beta happened based on our feedback and we could see the results in the following beta weekend.
WP didn’t comment on it, but I miss the Seraph wearing the tabarded plate instead of their current grunt low end stuff.

^ This.
Plus I feel 90% of manifesto was a lie. There is much grinding, you do what everyone else is doing, you do swing a sword again, the village you rescued needs rerescuing 10 minutes later, no decision affects the world, and such. The good thing is that it does encourage cooperation and helping other downed players, but that’s about it.
The art team though, they delivered big. Kudos.

Probably that most of the GW1 devs left ArenaNet during the production of GW2.

Ever heard of marketing?
They delivered on a lot of aspects though!

Am i the only one extremely sad for what this game was meant to be and what end up being ?
Lol I got to the part where they say “we took everything you love in GW1 and put it in a persistent world” and just had to shut it off there…
I didnt know about GW2 back then.
But those lore books. I WANT!
D:
I always like monster/enemy bestiary and the like. And it has 3d model too.
I wish they kept it

One could of course question if people would have been willing to stick to and wait for the game those extra years that it might have taken to implement all those things in a good way.
People were being rather impatient already a year before release.

They announced GW2 when they released Guild Wars: Eye of the North way back in 2007 which isn’t even when they started on it as the expansion existed precisely because they decided partway into Utopia that they couldn’t keep going with GW1.
By the time GWEN launched they had already figured out what the races and world conflicts were going to be in GW2. A big chunk of the conceptualization was already done.
If you make people (mostly GW1 players eager for GW1 2.0) wait 5 years and hype the crap out of the game, people are going to get impatient.
I seriously doubt they could have delayed the game for much longer.
