In need of participants for study
Hey Xaphiera, I filled out your questionnaire.
It’s a really interesting topic by the way and I’m forward to seeing what you come up with.
It seems like you’ve already come up with a statistic as more you have more female participants than male.

I filled out this as well and found it interesting. Good luck with your project.
I’ve completed your survey, seems interesting you should post again when you complete the project.
Just a heads up your full name is displaying at the top of the survey I think you already know though.
11x level 80’s 80+ Titles 2600+ skins , still a long way to go.
It’s very interesting, but I don’t think this data will be of much use to you. Everyone is different. Some people will behave like that, others don't. For myself, I found anything being matched up to be coincidental. I have many characters, each with their own personality, hopes and goals. They can be a form of escape, or inclusion with friends, depending on the situation.
Still, I’d love to see the results posted when and if at all possible!
Thanks everyone! I can check the participants without affecting the new data, and it just refreshes when new completions are made. I just want to have an equal participant distribution so I check the gender distribution regularly :P
Thanks for your time everyone! I will be posting my report as soon as it is ready.
Interesting survey. I completed it just now.
Interesting survey, especially the literature that inspired you to do it. I will definitely read through it.
I took part in the survey even though I’m not male (sorry for that, but I was curious about its content).

Done :]
Interesting subject, curious about your results! Will mail you!
Done I am looking forward to the results
The switch up of ideal/virtual/actual threw me for a few questions on the second page. If someone isn’t paying very close attention, it’d be easy to just go through and answer as if they are in the same order on each page.
Interesting survey. I definitely play my ideal self in games.
Done! It was fun to think about it that way, really interesting! Thank you, and good luck!

Completed. I hope the results will provide useful information.
done! interesting study. But i don’t know if this forum will be of much help to you. Most of the people playing this game don’t role play at all.
And, for myself, I can say I just write the story of my character (specially the personality and motivation) and then stick to it when playing. Sometimes I deviate just for the sake of being able to actually play with someone else, but I don’t think it works as a step up to our ideal selves.
Both me and my virtual character were looking at my ideal self like. “Yo, whatcha doin all the way over there?”
A psychology degree is very useful.
I also filled in this survey, hope it helps you out.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Since I didn’t have the time to comment in detail on the survey yesterday, I would like to add some thoughts on it now. Something that came to my mind while filling out the questionnaire and what I think should be taken into consideration.
Judging by the first few questions in the survey, you are assuming throughout the whole survey, that the person doing it plays the game for some kind of escapism or even attaches a whole personality with hobbies, favourite food/colour/holidays etc. to the character. The latter is even a premise for the rest of the survey to work.
For some people however, playing a game is a hobby like any other. Something they do when they get home from work instead of telly time or reading a book, because they like the control over the story (instead of getting it presented with a fixed outcome like in a book or a film) or even just because they enjoy the art of the game and get inspired by it (see all the fanart existing for different online games). These are just examples, there are many more reasons why someone could play a game…
So in my opinion a short question about the motiviation to play a game at the beginning of the survey would have been helpful, a kind of filter question for the rest of the survey.
The main reason for that is, that in case of a person who treats playing a game just like any other hobby, trying to find a connection between the personality of the character and the player’s ideal self is like looking for a connection between a fishing rod’s personality and a fisherman’s ideal self (ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit to make my point)…
For those players, a character in a game is a tool to move around in it and interact with the virtual world and play through the game’s story, enjoy the art, compete in PvP environments (e-sports) etc. If you let those people do the whole survey, they could easily falsify the results you gain from the survey.
