I didn’t exactly know where to ask this question but since it is about animating models for machinima(like with Source Film Maker and steam games) I feel this is the best place to ask.

First question.
Does ArenaNet allow and/or support the use of they’re models, textures and game properties to be used in machinima, lets plays, activity highlights and the like and what is they’re stance on the users monetizing the videos(as many youtubers do)?

Second Question.
What programs work with extracting the data to build character models, manipulate maps and animation tools with the guild wars data or game engine? I’ve seen talk of a number of 3D ripping software being used but not any for animating. so any info in this could help.

I don’t want to step on anyones toes by not asking first but I’m still hoping there wont be any issue with this type of fan made content.

Slippery and very complex slope here.

Far as I know most studios don’t take issue with machinima but the programs and technical know how to crack into and then extract and later alter and reimplement into a private rendering of the world will take a lot of learning and you will not find those answers on these forums.

A net does not allow mods to their game that make it client side nor do they offer support for private servers.

If you wanted to have custom animations you’d be making your entire video inside of something like Maya or the like.

As for monetization check the user end licenses and legal stuff for that.

It really is a shame that ANet hasn’t done anything to support their fans in this way. Machinima are a fantastic way to spread the word about a game… but as far as I know there’s absolutely no support for it with GW2 assets. Not even a first person camera!

Now, if they’d release some models in a format supported by the ever-popular Garry’s Mod or others? That would go a long way.
