Is it legal to make money off of filming yourself playing the game? I see some people that have posted videos on here already are? This topic probably is in the wrong place but since I see others are where can I get permission to make videos?

Why wouldn’t it be? If anything it is great advertisement for Guild Wars 2.
I am pretty sure Anet encourages this.

there was a stink about this sort of thing at launch when either someone at anet or ncsoft (not sure which, so do the research) demanded youtube to take down a video that was being monetized and contained gw2 content (or something along those lines >.>). the key thing was that the monetization was done through youtube and not a partnership, which takes care of all the legal mumbo jumbo and how a lot of people who make money via yt vids do it. to be 100% sure, asking support is the best way to find out.

The developers made an exact comment about this during the Beta Weekends when the NDA was lifted for that footage.

Basically the answer is: No.

Why?

Because it’s not your game, it’s theirs. Sure you’re playing it. But you’re still asking to make money off of their property., which isn’t right.

Now, a show like Bog Otter’s, which is 80% him in front of the camera, and 20% showing certain aspects of the game (new gem store items, new gear, new story lines, etc.) is okay to monetize because it’s mostly him and not gameplay. That’s the major difference.

Bogotter is OK but he is not Pewdiepie when it comes to influence and income.

This is what i mean, the most influential and successful you-tubers that film themselves playing games do the opposite. with 80%+ just playing games casually without a care in the world, not always with a face cam and all they do is roleplay.

none of powerful you-tubers say today im am going to show you how to do
A then B then C about a game they just play it while talking nonsense.

If that is true then Anet is gonna have it’s hands full with all the people in this part of the forum that are making money off their game even if it is just pennys.
