Ah those are great shots I esp like the first. Ok I’ll bump this thread again and see how many people are interested. If it’s more than one I’ll set it up with a theme.

I’m not a photographer but I love landscapes as well, and I often take screenshots while walking around Tyria. I’m up for it!

I’d use a first person view though, /sleep ’ing doesnt always work Any tip?

We’ve found sleeping does help sometimes but now and again theres just nothing you can do. You can also take shots on the vista movies which a few have done with some nice results but I prefer seeing pictures taken manually

I’ve also seen some great pictures with the avatar still in the frame. This week our theme was ‘Energy’ so I’m might see what you guys can do with that. I’ll post up a few of mine when I get a sec.

I have a multi monitor setup, After I take the screenshot. I crop the picture to the area I want.

No I wish there was

But if you /sleep then in most angles you can’t see your toon. Like I say though, don’t worry too much, sometimes your character adds some context to the scene. As soon as I’m free of the kids I’ll sit down and post our first theme for this week.

Ok guys and gals, as my guild has just finished the theme of energy then that will be the theme this week for the first competition on these forums.

Don’t forget there is energy everywhere from weapon effects, control panels, strange beasts etc. There is no right or wrong, just what you feel makes a good shot. As I’ve said before this is purely a competition for fun and to get toy to look closer at the environments of Guild Wars 2.

I’m a fan of un-offical events too. In GW, we ran “True Cartographer” contests. I would take a screenshot of a landmark/unique spot and post it on our website. First person to figure out where it was, get there, take a screenshot of themselves there [and send it to me as verification] would take the pot. Fun times. I’m glad to see other groups are doing fun ‘un-official’ stuff too. It should be encouraged more. Time to put my money where my mouth is

By all means, have at! If you wanted to credit us, you could call it (the contest) the Quin Cup or something . Guilds that have fun together, stay together. Enjoy!

We certainly did! As Seen Here , we were active with armor collections [for ourselves and our heroes], as well as pursuing other titles on our 30/30|50/50 paths. As such, our rewards weren’t always just ‘throw in a couple gold.’ When we were all pursuing Vabbian armor, we would throw in Sapphires instead. When we were all pursuing Obsidian armor, we would throw in Obsidian Shards instead. Green Weapons [Thank you Horizontal Progression and Decent Drop Rates], Consumable Items [Sugar/Alcohol/Party], I think once we even did it for real-life cash (we’re all RL friends anyway): we all bought the costumes so the winner would get a free costume from the rest of us. I, as guild leader, always tried to keep the pot something relevant to whatever we were doing at the time. Sure, we’d all get to the end eventually – but one of us would get there first and have bragging rights for a bit .

Another way to take a “first person” shot, is to move close to something, eg a building, turn your focus around and take the shot through your toon. Sometimes you might have to remove shoulder pads and weapons.

I think it’s a great idea. I’d suggest a new thread each week where people can submit a shot. And you can only submit one shot. Once submitted, you can’t change it. Put some rules up about not allowing editing, and after each week, create a new poll thread where people can vote for the winner. I’d totally be in for that! How do people arrange payment?

Heya guys!

Sorry for the short awol, it’s been crazy busy in the last few days, so lets get back on track. First of I just want to say I’m over the moon with a the cracking pictures you guys have added, it’s great to see such enthusiasm about something I love as well.

Also a huge thank you to Regina for tweeting a link to my competition, I really appreciate this and I hope you keep checking out what people post up.

What I’m thinking of doing is judging this weeks theme today and then running the new theme from now until next weekend. The reason is that we have just run this new theme in our guild and the breadth of the subject has only become apparent to me when having a good shifty around the game world. So back to that in a second.

Without further ado, the winner of this weeks Energy theme is Aageriana with this shot. I chose this one because I think it fitted the theme as well as looking great. I also like the way the sun is right between the two shards of ice.

Ok so on with a new theme, for the remainder of this week and next week the theme will be waterfalls!

I really wish I could offer a prize for the winner but alas it would be impossible to do this outside my guild. However my aim here is to get people looking around the magnificent world ArenaNet have crafted for us (and have fun in the process!).

If you would like to submit a picture here are some things to remember.

• try and keep the theme in mind
• if you submit more than one picture make it clear which one is your picture to submit
• tell us about the picture
• think outside the box, it’s always nice to see how creative people can be with a theme.

Ok guys, I’m going to bring this weeks theme in line with the current theme in my guild so they run side by side. The theme for this week is Industry

There is industry all across Tyria from water wheels, engines, sawmills, logging camps etc. Also have a good think about what industry means to you, ie pollution, power etc.

Wow that looks amazing! This is on of the reasons I enjoy doing this kind of thing, there are just so many places and things you can miss. Moo cube do you mind if I make a suggestion? I think that would be so much better it you frame it better. What I mean is more of the subject in the shot and less of the wall to the right. Could be a winner with that!
