Sylvari: “I just wanted to ask it a few questions.”
Asura: “You asked it about its mother!”

Hey fan-fiction-fans.
Not long ago I created a Scavenger Hunt for my guild and I thought maybe there are other GW2lers who’d also enjoy doing it or at least have fun reading the poems/stories.
Also it might give other guild officers/leaders ideas for similar events.
It is a fairly simple one to be honest, since I wanted every member (even all our newbies, who still are <lvl30) to participate and enjoy it. I’m currently working on a new hunt, which might be a bit harder and more complex, but it’s still a work in progress..
-
I’ll post it here in the following structure:
0. Title of the quest
Subtitle
Quest text
Question to be answered
Hi, I’m a surprising solution
-
Please note that some of the subtitles and the last quest don’t make sense, if you’re not in our guild. I posted them anyways, so that you can view the entire Scavenger Hunt. They might still be fun to read..
If you like it, have constructive criticism or questions, feel free to comment below!

The Hunt started with an easy motivator.
1. Ascalonian Wars
"I don't see no ghosts!" - Iron Legion Scout's last words
Legend states that in 1090 AE, when the Charr breached the walls of Ascalon City, King Adelbern swung his ancient sword, Magdaer and struck the “Claw of the Khan-Ur”. The spark caused by this clash not only killed the invading charr, but it also resurrected the fallen Ascalon Army into spectral undead force, which remains to this day, vigilant against intruders, human and charr alike. The remains of Magdear still reside somewhere in the depths of the Ascalonian Catacombs. But why am I telling you this, when we have a Charr who can tell the story so much more detailed? I heard Rytlock Brimstone is currently in the catacombs and I’m sure he’d be happy to tell you the whole tale upon entering story mode. Oh and while you’re at it, could you tell me which animal you see first in the cutscene?
Wolf. (Eirs pet)

The forum didn’t like the word I used in the line after Scarlet’s laughter, so i had to change it into “kittened”
2. Remains of a broken city
“In memory of a once wonderful city. We all miss you!” - Lions Arch Refuge
Lion’s Arch. Heart of Tyria’s nations.
Deep down root your building’s foundations.
I look around and see with pity,
the remains of this now broken city.
In my ears Scarlet’s chuckling laughter,
as she kittened it and thereafter
children’s voices and traders bargain
silenced by the Molten’s war-refrain.
Both Bank House and the Trading Post,
once made their architect proudly boast.
Their shattered windows, walls and ceiling
can still cause an impressed feeling.
Seeing their ruins I now behold
details that were never told.
In both’s design was used the same
wonderful animal, but what’s its name?
Can you tell me which animal was used in the design of both buildings?
Seahorse

3. Tales about the jade sea
“This one’s for you, Lordy. You pale ol’ treehuggin’ Kurzick, you!” - Jade Sea Lover
Every race in Tyria likes stories and fairy-tales. Charr ones are told at night by the fire. Norn ones are boasted out after great hunts. Asurans are usually too busy for stories, but some have their own fairytale-golems, that simulate caring storytelling. Sylvari don’t have many stories yet, so they ask strangers for their stories. And humans.. well humans write about their stories. They fill books over books with all kinds of stories. Made up stories. Historical novels. Crime stories. Romance. Fairytales. In their hometown Divinity’s Reach you can find many of those books in Book Carts and in some you can even take a sneak peak. On one of those book carts somewhere on the promenade between Ossan Waypoint and Rurikton Waypoint, there is the story of and by Mhenlo and his time in the Jade Sea.
Can you tell me which animal the jolly ol’ monk used to ride on?
Turtle. - Who wouldn’t wanna ride on a giant turtle :P

4. Meaty Surprise
“Grmmmzzrrmmbl” - Surprised Norn Stomach
When Norn are drunk they talk a lot,
so many stories, all the same plot.
Seeking legends, slaying beasts
coming back to the finest feasts.
Animal spirits are there to guide
all the hunters of the wild.
In their Great Lodge they booze and boast
and eat Moa-Bacon with beans on toast.
To rip them off three merchants came,
playing their fancy trading game.
They show off all their meaty supplies
one of them even sells a surprise.
Can you tell me which animal’s meat goes into that surprise?
Wurm. - Guess everyone has his/her own taste ^^

5. It’s a colorful World
“In regards to Eio and his very own Omega Golem.” - Omega Rush Supporter
Brak the Birdwatcher is, as all asurans are, extremely intelligent. At the age of 5 he already won the Snaff Prize with his I-cannot-believe-this-is-not-a-zerg Omega Golem (Unsynthesized Moa Version), leaving his competitors in a tweeting mess. Sadly 2 years later he built a pair of rainbow-colored wings and jump down from Rata Sum trying to fly like a bird. 43.47 seconds later he crashed head-first into a mangrove tree.
His last words were: “The key to success is the right colors! … hrmpf … uhuh … and I know now where to get them … hhhoooozh … Maguma Jungle … Caledon Forest, north-east of the Village of Astorea … jump on the flying rocks there. … ouch … hrrrrr … on the 10th rock there lives a parrot. Take 3 of it’s colors and you can fly! … uuhhh … ugh … Blueberry-Wine!”
I was intrigued myself and so I tried it out and I can give you three hints about that parrot:
Try to find the parrot and name me at least 3 of this particular parrots 4 main colors.
3 of [beige/white/yellow, black, blue, red]

We gave a little hint here:
Graves often have an inscription that tells you more about the people lying there.
6. Tyria’s very own cookie monster
“Don’t bring cookies to Tyria’s woods. They have eyes and hunger for pastry!” - Scared Pastry Chef
A maiden of beauty, eyes like the sky
baked cakes so tasty, nobody could deny.
With yellow-white flowers in her ebony hair,
she had quite a happy and loving flair.
Being 24 years she encountered, oh my
a horrible monster just wanting her pie.
It looked at her thinking “Chocolates, oh yum!”
and bit enthusiastically in her delightful bum.
Now adorning the gray stone of her grave
on a cemetery in Shaemoor near the bandits cave
are the yellow-white flowers, moving in the breeze
a joy for all the little bumblebees.
And still in the woods hunting for pastry supplies
is the cookie-lovin’ monster with greed in its eyes!
Can you tell me of which animal species is the cookie-lovin’ monster?
Bear. Careful he’s still out there!

Hint:
Take this quest with humour.
7. So terrifying to asurans that it has to be locked away
“The supersymmetry of chromodynamics is based on asymptotic freedom.” - Scribble in Asuran Toilet
The tiniest of all races is by far the race of Asurans. Back in ancient times they lived deep under the earth, where their weird shaped body and tiny size were actually of benefit, since they could move faster in their complex, narrow cave-system. In those times they ruled their underground world and didn’t have to fear a thing.
But when they were driven out to the open world by the elder dragons they had to face a lot of new terrifying threads. There were so many fearsome, unknown creatures! Yet again the asurans had an advantage that not many others shared. Their stunningly high intelligence!
And so they build a flying city, that the creatures couldn’t reach them. After that they build massive golems to protect them. Once again they ruled their region without having to fear much. Yet, there are still some animals that can make every, oh so smart asuran shiver in terror. A very horrifying one is locked away by the Peacemakers in their Headquarters.
If you want to see it go to the Research Waypoint and look out for the Peacemaker Officers. Their prison is deep down in the heart of Rata Sum. But be aware: Only the bravest of all souls can withstand its terrifying looks!
In case you survived the journey.. can you tell me which animal the asurans are so terrified of? Oh and by the way, not every monster down there is what it seems it is. Don’t be fooled and pick the wrong one.
(Ethereal) Chicken

As mentioned earlier this quest is mostly not solvable if not a guild member.
Basically the first part describes a certain guild member. Once the members figured out who it is, they were supposed to whisper that person and ask him/her how to find him/her.
The second part is the answer said person would give.

The forum didn’t like the last word of the honorable fools answer – but I think most of you can guess it …
8. The Honorable Fool (Final Quest)
“Never sleep drunk in enemy territory.” - Old Charr Saying
1. Part: Who?
A nobleman, old as a tree
had quite a gothic tendency.
Led his dark army to glory and fame,
clearing the blood out of his name.
Drunk of power he thought nothing to fear,
sat down at the fire with a victory beer.
The fire went out, left him in the shade;
taken by shamans he now needs your aid.
Know the identity of The Honorable Fool? Whisp the person and ask how you can save him/her. Then show/link me his/her “Thank you”-gift!
2. Part: The Honorable Fools Location (This one is solvable even if you are not in our guild.)
“South of Zelechor Hot Springs there - is the Shaman’s skelk-infested lair - Raven,
Wolf, Bear and Leopard are to pass - if you want to save my noblemans a***.”
The person was hiding at the chest of the Shaman’s Rookery jumping puzzle. Every member who found him/her received a Ruminant Tonic and a guide on how to submit all the results.
