Stay a while noble warrior, and let me tell you a tale of the greatest beast of mount maelstrom. Now, I can tell you’re thinking of that Big O’l destroyer in the Volcano and you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that a collossal beast of stone and fire threatening the heart of the mountain would be fearsome. Perhaps you might think of that dark sorcerous krait who stands in the lake? Weaving it’s dark arts across the land with malice and dispair.
You wouldn’t be wrong… but you wouldn’t be right either.
The priory, they woke it up from the dark, a creature born of web but made of something much much worse… I speak of course of Harry… the Huge spider.
It struck out from the corner, striking down explorers one by one, their weapons useless against the beast! Sword and mace, fire and steel! Every attack would strike true but could never stop the creature. Onwards and onwards it came, soon champions arrived, noble heroes! Powerful elementalists, nimble thieves, noble guardians, dauntless rangers and dangerous necromancers all turned their skills and weapons upon the arachnid, but Harry the huge spider, simply did not care.
For an eternity the battle raged, the heroic band struck time and time again at Harry; burning him, chilling him, causing him to bleed from terrible wounds, blinding him, slashing at his very soul. Every now and then one of the party would stray too close and Harry would strike! His webs spinning out to bring a dealthy embrace upon those who dared defy him, but for every foe he defeated, the others would rescue another.
Stone boiled and earth cracked as the fight raged on, strange glimpses of beyond fluttered into sight as the magic and fury of the conflict burned onwards. Harry claimed victim after victim as the priory joined the fight to slay the beast, but even with their knowledge the warriors could only hound the monster, darting in and out like hungry wolves harrassing a kill. Chitin cracked, swords bent, mail tore and lightning rent onwards and onwards.
Eventually, the final blow landed. An axe falling like a Claw of Jormag from the heavens struck the beast square and true. With a sickening squeal Harry the huge spider fell motionless, tension draining from it’s limbs as sure as a bowstring being returned from draw.
Some say that Harry the huge spider didn’t fall that day, that his corpse vanished in the night as sure as the mountain trembles each day… some say he will return anew to seek horrible vengeance against those who bested him….
