Synopses

We all know the story behind legendary weapons. We’re aware of how difficult and challenging they are, and just how many materials and steps are required to make them. So, what if it was easier? What if you could just plug in what you have, and see what you have left to collect?

I’ve created an Excel calculator that does just that. Currently, it just works for Sunrise, but I intend to expand to every single legendary very soon, after collecting some feedback from all of you.

What This Calculator Does

• Provides a detailed list of the ingredients and recipes for every legendary weapon component and sub-component
• Provides an interface for inputting your current resource pool to calculate remaining resources
• Provides individual and total costs, separated into various currencies
• Provides accurate, up-to-date costs of each item, updated on spreadsheet load (not available in Feedback Version)

How This Calculator Works

It couldn’t be simpler. You’ll see several columns. In the Number Owned (WHITE) column, just enter the number of resources you currently own; the calculator will do the rest! All your information will be available in the right-most collumn.

Planned Updates

• Implement live updating prices, powered by www.GW2Spidy.com
• Add every legendary as a separate sheet on the same file
• Consider adding % complete columns at a later date (requires forumula rewrites or some unique workarounds)
• Properly password protect the sheets so only the input column is editable. Current version is locked but has no password
• Add recipe costs. Should I add locations as well
• Add crafting types/requirements (like how Bifrost requires 400 Cooking and 400 Artificer)

• Feedback – Tell me what features you like and hate, what should be reorganized, and if anything should be moved around.
• Ideas – Any new features you would like to see added?
• Support – Any words of encouragement to keep me going. I initially planned this as a paid tool for fan sites, but I’ve decided to go public with this knowledge. Show me I did the right thing with an encouraging post!

Currently I am only able to provide a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file. In future versions I plan to make this more universally accessible for those of you on macs or without the software. This file CAN be opened in Google Docs, although it cannot be edited there.

10/12/2012 -

• Some mod moved my post to Fan-Generated-Content, so I guess I’ll make this my new base of operations until I have a finalized version. That version will be fought tooth and nail to keep in the crafting section.

• Discovered that adding % complete tabs for overall completion wont work with current formulas, and modifying forumulas to enable this would cause other undesired side effects that make the spreadsheet harder to use; therefore this feature is scrapped for now.

• New Download Host selected temporarily, until I can figure out how to enable downloads directly from Google Docs.

Add a “percent complete” tab (NOTE: Inaccurate due to quantities and ease of item obtainment; how should I weight each item?)

Have a separate percent for each base material (karma, gold, skill points, badges, dungeon tokens). Anything purchaseable counts towards the gold total and is weighted based on its cost.

This seems like a great idea. I will be using this!

I’m going to add a section at the bottom for tokens, skill points, etc. They’ll factor in like the recipes do, only basically be a recipe of one item. Then I can add percentages to each item.

I’ve also requested access to GW2Guru’s API as well, so that may be easier and more efficient to use. We`ll see.

Well, now Im at a loss. Forums state we can’t bump things, but I need feedback which means I need you guys to see this thread AND POST! >.>

So, one more bump for now, then I guess I’ll let this die if no one else posts, and feedback is done until the full beta version is released.

I love the way this is setup right now its awesome. honestly I could see you cleaning it up a bit more but you already posted saying that was in the future. The way it is in awesome and just needs to get done for the other weapons.

I do have some plans, but what exactly do you think should be cleaned up on it? Im always open to suggestions

Ugh, I hate forum moves….I wonder if I can get this posted in the Crafting Forum as a sticky when it’s 100% finished…since it’s a crafting specific utility…

EDIT: Awesome news! I figured out how to lock and hide spreadsheet data, which means the next posted version should have calls to live data Tonight’s goal: Work on setting up changes, and then create a second table. This one will be for Incinerator.

Version 0.5 Patch Notes:

• Cover Sheet Added with total prices
• Incinerator and The Bifrost recopies added as separate sheets in the same file
• Spreadsheet Locking enabled. No password set on this version, but by default you can only edit the white collumn designed for input
• Formulas hidden from view
• Added an additional recipie section for skillpoints, karma, tokens, and WvW tokens
• Moved the totals to the right side for formatting
• Hid one collumn

Updating values are still not incorporated (prices on the sheet are not correct for Incinerator or Bifrost, and Sunrise is several days out of date). I ran into a small snag where the live update formula for Google Docs does not exist in Microsoft Excel, so I’m currently researching a workaround. I hope to include it in the next update.

After speaking to someone in-game, he mentioned that creating a web app out of this might be more useful; Do you guys think I should scrap the Excel project in exchange for creating a web app (this will take longer)?
