Hi guys got video footage of my engi build that I used to get me to top 100 on Leaderboards I have changed it slightly from my previous immortal engi video. Through out the video I am outnumbered most of the time and you can also see how I deal with turret engis and the end I am running a bit more of an offensive powerish/hybrid might stacking build enjoy.

List of things to work on:

  • You do not have good uptime on any key skills and a lot of your combo potential is wasted.
  • If you only use elixer gun 4 with f1 then you will always know when it and EG 5 are available
  • unless you are with an ally or notice the enemy healing there is no reason to use EG 3.
  • You want to make sure you are fire and conc bombing on cooldown as well as rotating between nails smoke and glue bombs to mitigate damage.
  • Also you really want to chain cc with rifle bigbomb and pull to get off a ton of damage.
  • You are wasting a ton of dodge rolls too, ideally you want to dodge big attacks like phant zerker, or evic which are really easy to see but you kind of just use them whenever atm.

You are really being carried atm by how obscenely high your self healing and defence is and against good players (luckily there are very few) you would not be able to get away with this kind of play so easily. Without any points in inventions a celestial engy can heal for 1000hps by using all healing skills on cooldown, with inventions it is probably quite a bit more since you get that heal reset when on low health too.

In summary, chain skills, spam important dps and healing skills (but dont overlap your bomb and tool 3’s), dodge better, kite with nails and glue bomb saving shield block for when they actually get on you. You also sit in kits for too long, if there is ever idle time your best dps is rifle autos or bombs, it seems like you actually use 7 8 9 for the kits which is a massive pain to reach and really delays your actions (in the video you were extremely slow).

Oh and auto attack on m5 seems like a huge waste, in terms of binds, putting a stun break or toolkit swap there instead would allow for faster shield walls which could be much better.

Hey yea i agree dodges def could be better though I live in Australia so I don’t have the best ping and I generally play trying to anticpate skills rather than reacting to them esp when I have a ausra warrior on me kinda hard to see there key attacks. I like the idea of tying eg4 and f1. When it comes to cc I generally like to keep them separate so I can knock players of point multiple times if I need to, but being up to chain cc for more dps on a burster set up is also good suggestion. Thanks for the comments.

Some things to point out.
Your hot-key set-up is pretty bad.
For engineer, it is strongly advice to move your kits to easily accessible keys for most accurate and efficient usage.

Also throughout the fight you seem to use super elixir very infrequently.
It is a great heal that heals about 3k+ hp and also cleanse one condition.
It is a waste not to use it when off cool down if you lose any hp.

What was wrong?

A lot. Using pry bar with conc. bomb is an extremely good condi burst even if your condi damage is low, damage like that would actually enable him to kill players that he would otherwise not be able to. Fumigate is a great poisen skill and poisen is important 100% uptime vs warriors, anyone with regen, and since I doubt you are going to re-actively use it on someones heal, it is good to use it to apply poisen before you think they are going to heal. He is not being “carried” by his high healing power. He is running a “bunker” engineer, and similar to a guardian, he relies on self healing. As a result he sacrifices a lot of damage. Because he has low damage, using all his CCs at once is a terrible idea… due to his low damage there is no way he can 100-0 someone, so it is best to save CC for interrupting heals, or landing a burst (Not all at once). While using healing mist and acid bomb is a good burst heal and damage source, using them only to know their CDs is ridiculous. With his build, his primary focus should be using counter pressure, so using glue bomb defensively is a bad idea, glue bomb is a great skill to help you use either fire or concussion bomb. Also as an engineer you should never find yourself auto attacking, if you do, you are doing something wrong. And please refrain from giving engineers advice.

In regards to hotkeys they are mostly on my mouse I just assigned any odds keys in my mouse configuration. I am not actually reaching for all the keys you see.

Prybar + conc = 2 wasted cooldowns if it is cleansed, spreading it out has a better chance of doing more damage and their cooldowns and durations allow for that. And I dont know anyone that would use more than 1 skill with 10 stacks of confusion but they could get lulled into more with only 5.
Example:

  • Oh shi I have a 10 stack of confusion “cleanse” good thing I only used a couple skills, that stupid engy just wasted 2 of his highest damage skills.
  • Oh a 5 stack of conf let me just finish my combo then cleanse it, “reapply” omg I cant cleanse anymore but I still want to do damage and it is only a 5 stack.
    So pretty much it is always better to space out condis when it does not hurt your overall dps as to work around cleanses. You probably proc ip while using firebomb on single targets too.

Fumigates poison duration is basically over by the time the skill finishes, better in most cases to use it when they have regen ticks or are healing or to remove condis from allies. I guess if you are bad or have high ping you cant use it reactively and should just spam it for the poison uptime, good alternative I guess.

All engies are carried by their hps.

Chaining cc does not mean blow it all at once, it means comboing a cc skill with some damage instead of just blowing them randomly without follow up. For example you are decapping a point you use 1 kb every time they come close to the circle and immobs while they are out of it.

I wasnt saying waste mist with bomb to know the cd, that is just a bonus of using that combo.

When I say kiting I mean standing 200 range away spamming damage while being out of melee range. thought that was obvious but I guess you can’t do 2 things at once :/

I’ll agree with not auto attacking but im pretty sure there are times where you can get an attack or 2 in every once in a while.

Anyone stupid enough to “finish a combo” with 5 confusion will do it with 10 confusion, and in case you were unaware, you are supposed to use high damage condi skills such as confusion and burning AFTER you bait there cleanse with other condis. Fumigate is a 6.5s poisen (with traited duration) on a 2.5s cast… While I agree on its use in group fights, I was referring to 1v1s where you claimed it should not be used. Engi’s HPS is hard countered by poison, due to low # of condi clears, poison can destroy an Engis HPS, and as I stated he is running a bunkerish build and playing it as such. I understand what chaining CC is, HOWEVER with his build, (Which I think is a terrible build) is like a decap engi, and like you said it should be used for decaping a point, that being said, if he actually wanted to kill someone he would need to save it for interrupting their heal. And BTW I am able to do 2 things at once, I’m not sure what you were trying to get at, talking about kiting>?

i haven’t watched everything but i’m quite shocked how mediocre people play in the top100 range (with you wasting so much potential for damage and damage mitigation this mesmer and necro should have downed you in seconds, which also speaks for their skills). i assume this is soloq? if it is, well, who cares, it’s skyhamq. if this is teamq i have no idea how you guys got so far.

just btw: that #5 on your bombkit is your dearest friend, don’t neglect it.

i’m not gonna comment in detail on the other posts, there’s some truth and some bullcrap in all of them, depending on which combo or strategic move is being talked about.

You know I find its harder to climb up soloq lb rather than tq lb if u rolled with a premade group you can get top end of tq in a day easy(but yea I been top 100 tq).

i now watched it until the end. against the engineer you still miss to execute moves that would make this fight a lot easier and shorter. man, that crate drop was wonderfully timed. you could have locked him in a pit of unholy death if you would have followed up properly (after stun bomb#5 then #2 and #3, rifle#2, eg#4, rifle #5 back in, tk#3 then #2 and so on). in this case instead of chipping away the point imo you should have went for the damage and keep rifle#4 in case he tries to heal himself. the previous setup also was kinda failed (and led to key skills being on cd) because you basically fired bomb#5 and #3 into nothing after knocking him off the point with bob. also in the following situation you want to use rifle#5 after the water field is deployed for the additional healing.

i can’t tell which lb is harder to climb because i recently don’t have the time to put much effort into the game in general and lbs in special. also i don’t play soloq at all so i’m not competent to compare. call it bias or prejudice, i just look down on soloq a bit due to the map rotation. however, what i can do is to compare the gameplay to those of people i play against with very much lower rating and i see a lot of missed opportunities especially in terms of soft cc which is a powerful tool to deal damage as well as keeping people from entering the point for longer (i saw you doing something like this around 7:05, in this case you could have used glue bomb before knocking yourself back, then box of nails, then eg#4 to get to the point and leave a trail of cripple and dmg) with which you can chip away the point from the enemy bit by bit. in the fight against the engineer you f.e. pulled him off the point and didn’t do anything to prevent him to get back on although rifle#2 and #4, tk#2 and bomb#5 were ready to go. i cringe every time that happens and it happens a lot. in this case you could have immobilized him and get back on the point with eg#4 leaving him immobilized in the puddle of dmg. also i see you switching kits at a much lower pace than i’m used to while also noticing a overuse of autoattack. eg#5, bomb#5, toolkit #5 (eg#4 ->tk#5->rifle#5 back to point -> rifle#2 is f.e. a good combo to get the opponent off point; rifle#5 and eg#4 are swappable depending on position, camera angle and overview) should come into play more often while eg#2, tk#2 and toolbelt f2 (for applying burning, removing conds or getting regen) are heavily underused.

PS: against the engineer you did 7 times 666 dmg short after another, have you made some sort of pact recently? :>

Better to ensure higher dps then to gamble when using a low damage build (no conf overlap). His build has no other condis that last long enough that anyone would bother clearing anyway.

Fumigate is a waste of dps 1v1 and only good to use full duration for warriors and eles, it is far better to save 1-2 ticks for heals instead of doing 80-100 dps with 50% uptime and not hitting any heals.

On the flip side Fumigate is great for covering your 2 better condis during the channel so it would be good to use after those are applied too. So I guess your way (stacking dps condis) becomes better if fumigate can cover the clear because they will have no reason to cleanse before that.

So it is basically a gamble vs more guaranteed damage and healing reduction, I think both ways are ok, but I’d go the safer route most of the time because I’m not going to burst anyone with condis using a celestial ammy.
