Q:

I searched through the threads here and could not find an answer to this question so here goes.

I am working on a cinematic video of Arah story mode and would like to use a piece of in-game music. First, is this allowed? Second, since I like to credit soundtrack artists and I assume that Jeremy Soule was the composer of this piece, do I credit Jeremy or Arenanet?

A:

1. Yes, its allowed (unless anet changed their policy from the past two years, which isn’t likely.
2. You should probably credit the composer of that piece of music, and note that its part of Guild Wars 2, published by Arenanet. I think that should cover that section.

Arenanet have been very willing to let people use their soundtrack’s in gameplay video’s and allow you to make money on that video. If a claim is filed against you for that piece of music you can contact Anet, let them know you have been flagged and they will usually help with the process. Youtube did a big mistake a while back where people were wrongly flagging videos and most publishers have gotten good at quickly clearing up any false flags.

Just a filthy Casual, move along.

There doesn’t happen to be any direct link with written consent from Anet by chance is there? I’ve previously attached music to a lot of my artwork on DA, but they were mostly all flagged and taken down. I had credits attached, source, etc. listed and everything. Wasn’t making any money off the use of their songs either.

I’d love to put some of their music back on my art, but I’d prefer a direct word from Anet for some support.
