So I was testing out fun ways to make money, and as it turns out veteran karka have some of the highest drop rates for rares.

Made a fun little demonstration video for all those who wish to tackle them.

You need a lot of blocking or dodging because of the frequency of their attacks. Lots of DPS of course because it means more money. And you need something to strip off boons or their retaliation will rip you up.

Killing them with Conditions is a lot easier than raw damage, too. Conditions don’t care about their high Armour/Toughness.

Of the dozens of veteran karka I have killed, I can count the number of items they have dropped on one hand. Most of the time, they drop nothing at all.

I also can’t help but laugh at the complaint that dual pistols deal crappy damage. Play a ranger for a while, and you’ll be begging for your pistols back.

After seeing this thread I went to karka land (first time since that karka event) to try this out. Killed 2 vets and they dropped absolutely nothing. I was wearing my full MF gear with food too (150% MF). Maybe Anet already nerfed it? lol

During the event and the day after, i fought in the zergs to kill the Veteran Karka. None of them dropped anything at all, and took an extremely long time to kill. Hunting them was very disappointing, and is why no one tries to. The young karka also take too long to kill for the returns you get, compared to other level 80 mobs.

When I use to farm adult karka, they never dropped anything good. With t6 mats worthless now, they still don’t drop anything good.. Do they?

Please explain to me how to profit well off of this.

Also how do you tell differences between male/female?

Will do tho I do not have high hopes. I do kill them occasionally when I do my Ori run and never dropped anything better than karka shell. Will try to kill like 10 and see if it pays off more than typical Orr farm.

You kill them quickly because your a thief. As a ranger, it takes me the better part of 5 minutes to kill a veteran karka. And 9 times out of 10, they don’t drop anything.

Nice video I’ll try that build and see how they drop things now, havent been to the island in quite some time since my account was one of the ones affected by the DR bug and by the loot issues where no matter what I do i get nothing.

I do however especially appreciate near the end how even you pointed out how terrible the dps is on the thief pistols. I too long for the day when they make pistols fire faster then rifles do. It’s a problem for both my thief and my engineer.

Engi kills them in 2secs Slap on a shield and they have no hope..

I takes me 4-5 sec to kill a young karka.

Takes me few minutes to kill a vet karka.

Like someone said – condition damage with dodge/stay away works like a charm.

This will not and should not be nerfed. It takes well some time to kill one solo and the Op was obviously playing his charactger well. If they nerf it it would just show that they only care about their money. There is nothing wrong in this video that would suggest exploit.

I think the video is more or less a demonstration of how to kill a veteran karka solo as a thief rather than as a farming video. A lot of people have gotten no drops at all from the veteran karkas which makes killing them not worth it.

Drops from any karka are almost non-existent for me.

i am a ranger and i cannot even take on a veteran karka single handedly!….lol
