What GW2 Trait system should have been.
Ahhh, the good old Sphere Grid.
Thing is, we sort of got the same thing. It’s just presented differently and isn’t as big.
EG.
You put points in Fire Magic, and eventually you’ll get to a node that adds an effect. You can then keep continuing with Fire Magic to boost them, or you can choose another path.
Since there are only 3 paths altogether in PoE (Stregnth, Dexterity + Intelligence), with some of them paths overlapping (i.e. The shadow is Dex/Int), it’s a lot easier to balance than 5 different paths for each Profession. Hence, the limited amount of points you can put into each Trait line, and the limited amount of Traits you can use.
That’s not to say though I wouldn’t love something like this in the game. I loved maxing my Sphere Grid in FFX.

OMG. My partner was telling me about this months ago and I was like “meh”. Now that I’ve seen this passive tree I got very intrigued. It led me on to the game (indy group in NZ! Where do I throw my money?) and the video is like “holy moly this needs and deserves more marketing than Diablo got!”. It looks incredible!!
As to having that kind of trait tree in this MMO, that’s a huuuuuuuge ask. But it’d make for some fantastic character building more truly reminiscent of GW1.
Yea, would love that sphere grid system of FFX / PoE. It will really boost endgame and increase variety of builds, but the boat has sailed. ANet will never go that path (no pun intended).
