Guild Wars 2

The bard in me, Mississippee Queen, loves to listen to music when I play Guild Wars 2. Music helps me command the battlefield… Its why I am LOVING the Mesmer in this game. What better way to confound, disorient and dumbfound the baddies then to blast some good ’ole ROCK N ROLL in their ears from several different directions at once!!

I’d like to know what the GW2 community listens to each day. So come forth with music!

I’ll begin.

I watched a great version of Going Down, by one of the greats, Leslie West of MOUNTAIN, and fellow musician Joe Lynn Turner of Rainbow.

As a musician myself, to see musicians who don’t typically work together, gel so well together on stage, this just made my morning! Enjoy!!

You have released the musical Kraken!
Lately I’ve been stuck on metal, but as long as it’s not glitch, hip-hop, rap, or country music, I either will or have listened to it.

I have recently discovered and become obsessed with Black Veil Brides’ “In the End.” I find it quite inspiring. Another one is Nightwish’s “Nemo.” Their songs are frequently quite haunting, and I love them.

Peter Hollens’ rendition of Assassin’s Creed’s “Underground” is another harmonic wonder, and I enjoy listening to remixes by Pentatonix from time to time.

Of course, for anyday inspiration, there’s GW2’s “Heart of Thorns: Main Theme.” Essays become dragons to be slain when I’m listening to that one. Continuing on the orchestral tangent, I also enjoy listening to The Piano Guys’ “Berlin.” I’m a sucker for some good cello rock/pop with a driving thrum.

Piano music is another weakness of mine; new age and modern arrangements (such as Jon Schmidt’s “Waterfall”, or Phillip Wesley’s “Dark Night of the Soul”) make for excellent contemplation songs and mind-movers. However, I also am fond of classical Beethoven, and Antonio Vivaldi’s “Winter” is one of my favorite musical works to listen to on loop.

Finally, I use dubstep/house music for energetic encouragement.

If you would recommend anything (I don’t listen to explicit or overly-suggestive music, despite the fact that some bands which I enjoy do perform them) I wouldn’t mind trying to take a listen.

Aandre – OMG Mountain is one of my favorites to jam on!! I listen to it on my ipod when I am in the gym. :-) I’m still working on my playlist that i can jam in gw2. :-)

Selana – the music in the game is soothing, and enchanting here! The reason i turned it off because i need tunes that motivated me to keep going.

I love the music in game but YES.. to play is to adventure, together with guildies! It still brings back golden memories of good old fashioned D&D and Rock n Roll to me!

Shadows – Mountain is my favorite pure rock band to jam to or play mmos with. Here’s my four FAVORITE songs by the band… who hit it big with Mississippi Queen, thanks to guitar legend Leslie West and drum & cowbell extraordinaire Corky Laing!! Jack that volume!!!

My #1 Favorite from Mountain — and it’s not Mississippi Queen!

Leslie West – Theme From an Imaginary Western – This rock ballad was the very song that made me pick up a guitar for the first time. Its the single best guitar tone Ive ever heard.. a special tribute to Felix Pappalardi, producer of CREAM and bass player for Mountain who was shot by his wife 4 years earlier. HAUNTING!!

Aandre – OMG dude!!!! We really need to team up in game, you are tooo awesome!!! \m/ What’s pretty funny funny my online sister and I were talking about Mountain two weeks ago! Out of the blue I came across yours! LOL god i love dungeons and dragons!!! No other game has made me feel so relate of what i been throught in real life. I used to play DDO and neverwinter online, but stopped due to people wanted to destroy the game, and the folks who running the game don’t even care being greedy. So that’s why I left completely decided to chill here in gw2 because everyone here is so laid back, and love the atmosphere and everything.. Back to music! lol

Rock and Roll, Classical, and heavy metal are my favorites to listen too! :-D Especially blues as well (I got me a box complete set of Bessie smith on my bday)! I love all kinds but i am very picky what’s out there now. lol

Nice Shadows! My Guild Tyrs Paladium is very active in DDO & Neverwinter and we still keep the old D&D spirit alive playing together every night.

In fact, with this in mind, I’ve opened up our new guild chapter here in Guild Wars 2 and can use all the help we can get. We are very much planning to keep it OLD SCHOOL and have FUN talking about music and art and sharing good times in general while playing & slayin in GW2!! So if you or anyone else is into old school music or gaming (Infocom Zork, SSI Gold Box, Bard’s Tale, Baldur’s Gate ring bells anyone?) feel free to come join up with us!

@EazyPanda : love Kokia’s stuff with Ar Tonelico. The Hymmnos OSTs are various forms of progressive rock incorporating a ridiculous amount of other influences, with a few pop tunes thrown in. Cosmoflips is closest to ‘goth metal’ (essentially female-fronted symphonic metal). Check list at bottom for recommendations.
