5 PST (Pacific Standard Time) translates to 8 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time) in my timezone, it’s when the dailies reset. This thread is useful.

As most people know, June is the month for LGBT Pride Month. Well, the month is almost over, but I just noticed something that made me smile. I don’t visit the official GW2 Twitter page, but when I looked today, I noticed that they showed just why Anet is the most LGBT friendly game company around. GW2 supports the community by showing their own stance on pride!

There’s actually an in-game pride parade happening really soon! For NA, it’s on the 26th at 8PM EDT, and for EU its on the 26th also but at 6PM CEST. It’ll be starting in Ebonhawke. There’s more information on reddit, if anyone’s interested!

I will join and march with you. I may not be a member of the LGBT community, but I am an avid supporter of human rights and equality for all of humanity regardless of who they are. Orlando tore me up inside, not because of the fact that it was an LGBT bar, but because it was a gathering of human beings out to have a good time and be themselves without fear of oppression and persecution. No human, regardless of who they are, deserved what happened in Orlando. for that reason alone, I will march with you.

One could argue that’s simply a byproduct of the idea that women were expected to not only remain pure until marriage but to marry a suitable man as soon as possible.

I doubt they felt the need to make a rule for people who were ether sold off or forced to marry a man when they came of age.

That can depend on where you live. In recent years there have been a lot of laws changed to allow same sex marriage, and amendments to the laws that cove marriage to cover same sex marriage. The nature of his and Roy’s relationship is kind of ambiguous. Not to mention Roy is dead. It isn’t enough!

We get to see Caithe and Faolin, Kash and what’s her name seemingly non-stop but the only gay male character we can reference is a norn (animal activist which I can appreciate) whose partner was eaten alive and he’s not even all that upset about it?

Additionally, on the first Sylvari Personal Story for choosing the Green Knight, Bercilak challenges a male Sylvari to a duel while his ‘beloved’ (who is another male) is standing there to watch in horror as his mate is killed:

So, we do have one ‘clear’ gay couple in the game, but beyond Dadgar and Eladus, I don’t recall seeing any other clear gay couple.

Your last statement is correct. Being gay is not a political issue. Fighting bigots for our rights is the issue. Unfortunately “I don’t want politics in my game” is often code for “I want to complain about how gay people have the audacity to exist but I don’t want people to call me out for the bigot that I am.”

And for the record we would love to shut up about how we’re gay and proud. We would love to not need pride parades and flags and what not. But until homosexuality isn’t met with violence and hatred that’s not going to happen. Until one transgender NPC in LA doesn’t cause people to whine about “SJWs” shoving “PC” culture down their throats we don’t have much of a choice.

Yes us mortal flawed human beings have been making up arbitrary rules to justify oppression for quite some time. The reason it was seen as less taboo is likely because women in those days were seen as little more than cattle. Women were considered property in those days.

There are no “homos” and “heteros”. regardless of how you identify, no one is 100% gay or straight. we are blobs in the universe with chemicals wizzing around our heads, and a lot of so-called “straight” people have homosexual experiences at some point in their life, and “gays” often have moments of heterosexualtiy. Penguins, horses, insects, and cows also have varying degrees of sexuality among populations. the gay-straight divide is fuzzier than you like to make it, and such is nature.

There is a char and norn laying next to each other on the beach in Southsun Cove. I wonder if they are meant to be a cross-species gay couple. I saw them and thought they are a cool couple.

Just a simple question in relation to all this: Wasn’t the in-game Pride thing organized by the players? So for all the hateful and intolerant people who are pointing the “shame finger” at ANet, doesn’t this kind of derail your entire argument?

The event was a roaring success! We had an attendance of around 300 people (3 maps at start), the entire event lasted for around 4 hours, and everyone had a blast!

I do have to note – to the amazing community of Guild Wars 2 – we did not have a SINGLE ONE hater, troll, or anyone disturbing our fun! The march was just a massive blob of fun, love, happiness, and just good times in general. This truly shows that this is one of the most accepting gaming communities out there.

I could not be happier with how the event went. Thank you to everyone who attended & especially to those who helped out with organisation <3

OpenCommunity has already decided that this will become an annual event on our end, and we encourage communities on NA servers to do the same!
