The new website is live, finally!

Exactly a month after that I started working on the new website, it’s finally done. Hundreds of hours went in this project and I hope that you guys will enjoy it and find it useful to work with.
The new website will be hosted on the same domain: http://www.gw2gvg.com

Here are some of the things listed that might be handy when visiting the new website:

New url paths and url rewriting

All the old urls have been replaced with new urls that are easier to read, therefore if you have a link on for example your website, youtube or twitch, it’d be appreciated if you’d change it.

How can this be useful?

For example, you want to view the american leaderboards, the url would now be: http://gw2gvg.com/leaderboard/na

Well, that’s an easy one, but what if we wanted to see the guild profile of VII? The url would now be: http://gw2gvg.com/guilds/profile/VII

Or even more complicated, what if I directly wanted the Everything Purple vs Aggression match? The url would now be: http://gw2gvg.com/matches/info/EP/Agg

To make your life even more easier, a breadcrumb trail has been added so you can’t get lost in all the pages!

The new homepage
Well this one is kind of obvious, in case you missed it, the homepage has been changed.
Instead of just showing you the leaderboard, it will now give you an overview of everything that has been happening around the scene!
The GvG Showdown episodes, hosted by Ogre, will now update in realtime on the website.

The new leaderboard
In case you are missing some guilds on the leaderboard, this could have to do with the following.

The leaderboard has been devided in region, game mode and date. On top of this has been added that a guild will only show up in the leaderboard if that guild has done a match in that month, of that game type, in that region. By not showing up I mean the guild will just be hidden and won’t lose it’s rating. This is to prevent dodging from happening and to have a more accurate leaderboard as guilds have to stay active in order to compete.

History and medals
To honor retired guilds, a history function has been added to the leaderboards and latest matches page. Now guilds will never be forgotten.
Guilds that ended up in the first, second or third place in any of the game modes at the end of the month will be awarded a medal that will be shown at their guild profile.

The new authentication system
On the new website you won’t log in as your guild anymore, but as ‘you’. This means your username will now be your e-mail address. Your password remains the same.
This means that now guild members also will have access to their own accounts, once approved by the guild officer(s) they can represent their guild on the website.

Videos & comments
Once you are a member and are approved by your guild as their member you will have access to these two functions. You will be able to highlight your videos of your GvGs and you will be able to comment on every match out there and discuss with all the others.

Friendly matches
You will now be able to challenge guilds to friendly matches, these are matches that won’t affect any rating but will create a dicussion page and gives you the option to add videos to it.

Challenging guilds
The way you challenge a guild has been changed, instead of going to their profile page and challenge them, a new challenge page has been added.
On this challenge page there will be a section ‘Suggested challenges’, which will show all the guilds that are in your current matchup and have said they are available for GvGs.

Guilds
A list of all registered guilds is now available with a search functionality.
Guilds will now be able to add their recruitment status and write a short introduction about their guild which will be shown at their guild profile.

This is because you are still logged in, yet your account doesn’t exist, remove your cookies from the website and you’re good to go

Well Basic [BS] was number two but cant get matches anymore, ton of dodging and just not that many want to GvG us….. If you knew how many guilds I contacted to try and get GvGs with the last two weeks.

Ahh well gave it a go back to basics of rolling zergs.

Site does look good tho.

In all honesty I would say it’s time to move up tiers but now after orbs….

Layout is cool in general but I prefered old ranking. We all knew which guild is playing 20vs20 and it didn’t really matter if someone who’s playing 5vs5 or 15vs15 only is somewhere high(even tho there wasn’t any guild).
Now I really have no idea about it, month rankings would be nice as additional option. However I’m not the guy who got a vote here so gj

Thanks for all your hard work on this, I appreciate the thought and effort you put into this site. As a guild leader for GF I use this site on a daily basis. I do have a couple issues/suggestions I would like you to consider.

1. All the matches set previous to the upgrade were set by default to “friendly match”. I believe the default should be “official match”.

2. Either in the upgrade or sometime today the challenges time zone conversion has gone wonky and it is very difficult to figure out what times these matches are for currently. Which leads me to the following.

3. Need an easy way to cancel an upcoming match so I can resend and reconfirm.

4. There is still a problem using PST, since most people equate PST with PDT. We recently had a match vs Omen who preferred GMT, when the site converted to PST it was one hour off what is typically considered PST causing a one hour delay in the match due to the confusion since PST and PDT is a one hour difference this time of year.

There are several suggestions for a solution here, first suggestion is to simply add daylight times to the site because if you live in a daylight time zone trying use fixed -GMT time can cause confusion.

Typically when I confirm with other guilds leaders I usually confirm the time in “Server” time and everyone else is responsible for the conversion. Perhaps you can allow a “server” time preference on the site or server time default rather than GMT default.

5. I understand the need to only see active guilds and monthly places, but this seems to me like a division between a tournament placement & and a career ELO/GLICKO rating. Myself and other guild leaders I have spoken with felt there was great merit to seeing leaderboards as actual career rating. We see monthly places more as tournament prizes but not indicative of overall rating/ranking. Is there a way to accomplish the need for both?

Also agree to an extent, until we reach a scale where there are dozens of matches happening each week in each category, it feels a little desolate to separate and makes it difficult to compare guilds side by side that might participate in several gvg types.

I think there may be a problem with timezones?
Sent out a challenge for tomorrow at 21:00 (My personal and guild settings are both on EST), but on the upcoming matches it shows 14:00.

Will look at the bugs when I get back from work

I think my bug was just a lack of cookie clearing. It’s gone now.

Love the new site
Only issue I noticed is that [Scnd] appears to be listed as being on Ruins of Surnia, even though the server has the German flag next to it.

I already donated, should have made a requiement to make the header smaller before I donate. lol

1. For all the lower tier guilds it is more difficult to schedule GvG’s with other guilds than it is for the higher tiers, and coming from T8, it is very difficult. This leads to an unfair ranking for all the lower tier’d guilds.

An easy fix for this is to have an “Overall” page like it was before the update, so all the guilds in the lower tiers, can see how they are matching up to others, overall, in addition to monthly standings, as were lucky to maybe get a gvg once a month.

I know we can spend thousands of gold xferring the entire guild to higher tiers, but a lot of us suffer from bad fps in huge zerg encounters, and most of us have came from the higher tiers to enjoy the lower tier WvW.

There are some very, VERY skilled lower tier guilds that are being somewhat hidden under the rug now.

Let me know what you guys think of this idea.

Those overall rankings are irrelevant because you never play against guilds in other tiers. I don’t think it’s unfair. As has been mentioned numerous times by many people anyway, it’s best to de-emphasize rankings because they are impossible to perfect in this player-made system. That’s why the main page doesn’t show leaderboards at all anymore.

Marty, does the new time zone stuff automatically take DST into account?

I’m aware of the bug in the timezone conversion, I’m looking into it but date and time conversions are always a pain in the kitten . I hope I can fix this soon.

Can’t you click cancel in the challenges page?

If you set your timezone in personal settings to UTC you will use the server timezone.

This is mainly done to not having blownouts in the top rating, as happened in the previous leaderboards. Right now the leaderboards are alot more accurate and I’d like to keep it that way. If all guilds stay active, the leaderboard will show the actual leaderboard as the rating does not reset every month, it just hides you.

Hey, I know where you coming from as my own guild is in tier 7 europe aswell. I have thought of your idea, but I still think it wouldn’t show accurate results.

So, instead, a list of all guilds has been added that can be filtered through, or even more specific is one you are logged in as a GvG contact you will be able to see all the guilds in your matchup with their current rating.

That’s not just the pages, the whole server is loading ridiculously slow since this saturday, hope it will get fixed by the provider soon.

Also there should probably be more spacing between the Guilds and How does it work links. I don’t recall the latter one being there before, maybe I need new glasses :P

I think that is the comment system for each match. I’m not entirely sure though.

awesome work on the site. Little confusing at first but that’s just b/c its new of course. Otherwise looks very clean.

Naw GvG is a small time slice of WvW and higher tiers = pure zerg. Not that is matters Orbs ruined any GvGs, and word is no deathmatch to be added in PvP…. so yeah guess i better get with the program and work on my arrow cart skills for WvW and skyhammer skills for PvP.
