While most sane people stopped caring about the score a year ago, some still cling to the notion that WvW is a competitive game type with PPT being the indicator of success or failure. You’ve seen them, the crazy people who want to hold a tower “for the tick,” as if matters. Those are the types who don’t like GvG.
Nice generalization, but that’s not always the case. I want to hold the tower because it’s ours, it’s on our side or on our map and I try my everything to keep it that way. Why? Because I love siege warfare, because I love crashing castles and holding it to show for whom it belongs to. It’s not even remotely about PPT, I don’t give a kitten about it. I was initially pulled into WvW because of the style of warfare: fight for territory and structures, the very same thing that kept me hooked to Warhammer Online. And no, I do not hate open scale fights nor do I prefer to use siege in a fight. On the contrary, I enjoy small to large scale fights in the fields with nothing but sword and sorcery, but when those fights are dealth with, I want to keep pushing for that enemy keep or get back to tend to our keep. GvG? Do what you want, but don’t lump everyone that doesn’t agree with you as an enemy of your precious GvG.
Plus, to call crazy people to the people who do not think like you, just show the kind of behavior some af the gvg players show for the players who do not like in some way the gvg.
10% maybe post. 50% don’t read them or more. 75% don’t care about gvg.10% of the player base probably actively or strongly supports gvg. 10% are actively against gvg.5% of the total wvw population participates in gvg. Not facts. Just my quick estimates.
You should talk to the mesmer from [EP] and tell him he/she is just there for Veil and Time warp.. see how that goes over.
LOL, its like asking me what a Ranger brings to a zerg, I’ll chew your ear off but I know what our limits are compared to our professions. Its the truth, what is the point of the Mesmer in a GvG other than Veil or Timewarp? A GvG group will only need one Mesmer, hell a zerg of 40+ only really need one/two Mesmers. I play a Mesmer and I understand there group mechanics and the are very limited and pigeonhole to a few gimmicky skills in WvW large group play.
Like I said go talk to them. That mesmer helped [EP] destroy casters during the fights I watched. they aren’t there for “just veil and timewarp”…
After just facing EP, thinking a mesmer is JUST there for the veil and timewarp is silly. They are there for many other reasons. From an outsiders pov GvGing might be a waste of time and might not contribute as much as other players looking to “increase/hold PPT”. The truth is that most GvG guilds play wvw to kill other players rather than sitting in towers because playing the PPT game burns people out. I mean who wouldn’t want that feeling of accomplishment when you wipe a 60 man zerg with 20 people?
I’d like to see a video of 20 people wiping that 60 zergs, could u link 1 please?
Welp it seems all the GvG hate is stemming from Anet themselves.

Anet doesn’t hate gvg. It just isn’t what they are giving attention. That’s not what the word hate means. Lack of gvg content will not cause the game to fail by itself.

No, we are however discussing an in-game event created by players. Thus this is a rather logical forum for it.
No this was discussing the attitude towards WvW players who take time to play the game in their own way.
This has nothing to do w/ an individual scheduled player event, and quite frankly is a form of censorship that Anet is currently employing.
Currently there are ppl that have been back logging every single statement/thread/conversation/Modd’n/Banning that has been going on by anet. This will prolly be given over to a game news site in retaliation of Anet’s actions.

I think that if people started limiting the matches to 8v8 I might be more interested in the GvG scene. The 15v15 and 20v20 videos are hard to watch, I have very little idea of who’s doing what or why.

It’s not the pace that’s so different it’s the number of people on the field and the number of skills going off at any given time.
tPvP can already turn into a visual mess with just a few people on a point so when there’s 30/40/60 fighting in a small area it gets even messier.
