Alright, as promised. Here are the reference images for you to use. Let me know when you are about to start on the sketch, so I can send you some details or ideas. Like how I want to include a shatter effect on what was once a clone behind my Mesmer, and his staff in view, as this will properly reflect the build I use. Anyway, thanks for adding me to the queue. I now have PLENTY of time to gather up all the gold. Since I also like crafting, let me know some gear you would like (preferably from Tailor, Artificer, or Jewelcrafting at the moment). I could totally get it to you.

Anyway, I made sure to include images that show the variances in lighting and how it affects Rei’s hair, as well as show off his staff and some character for you to attempt to incorporate. As well as get all the armor in view. I am using the Exalted armor set, if you need to get more detail on how that looks. Anyway…there you go. A lot of details to work off of when you get to it!

Hi, I really like your artwork and would like to apply for a portrait for my male sylvari Mesmer, Blascath.

But due to the conscription in my country(Taiwan), I might be joining the military for a year in a month or two, which means that I might not be able to play GW2 as often as I am now.
I understand that the queue list is long and I don’t mind waiting. Just want to ask if you would mind me paying the 30G first in case I might not be able to keep in touch with you. If you agree, then I will send the payment through in-game mail as soon as I get your reply.

Blascath is a charming violet sylvari who always like to meddle in others’ business with his cunning and mask of Harlequinn, being an elite member and political spy of the Order of Whispers. When he is in battle, he relies on his army of phantasms to do the “dirty work” for him with himself staying back and enjoying the show. He’s a master of sword-pistol combination, wielding a Bonetti’s rapier and an Ebonhawk Vanguard pistol; although he uses his Zenith Spire providing support for his phantasms more since he prefers to do the killing blow himself after the enemy has been worn out by his phantasms first. Hope this little introduction helps you to get to know him better.

As for the poses, it would be wonderful if you can show both Bonetti’s rapier and Ebonhawk Vanguard pistol in the portrait, otherwise you can choose whichever you find more comfortable with. I also look forward to see a feeling of mocking with his mask of Harlequinn. Thanks you for your time and effort put into doing this, hope you enjoy drawing him!

I would like to submit myself into the queue as well. As I said before you do some of the best character art I’ve seen on deviantart and I also appreciate your very fair price for such quality!

The one I will be submitting will have three characters into one portrait. The three characters will be those of me and my two friends who he have played and enjoyed the game though. An asura elementalist, a sylvari ranger, and charr engineer so this will be a very multiracial piece :P

We already have roughly 70g together and will be getting the rest very soon. I’ll be handling the money and speaking for all three of them. I’ll put up screens shortly once I get pictures of the asura elementalist who has been busy for the last few days.

What I love about these portraits every time I see them is that they’ve emulated the art style of Guild Wars so nicely, while adding enough of a personal touch to make them cohesive. Some of the screenshots have characters which have a lot of chaotic equipment and colouring going on that are just mixed together so nicely, muting what needs to be muted without actually taking away from it at all.

I look forward to seeing more, keep up the good work.

They go to the left about 7. There is a cropped version as well, so you can get a closer look at his face. I hope this does help a bit more!

Also…I would like to note…I have a lot of weapons now and am having a hard time picking my favorite to represent this character’s personality. I mean, he has a staff for condition damage and boon output, but beyond that…his emphasis is on having clones out to shield him, and moving a lot…so I guess really…staff is it. I am using the Zenith Spire skin for the staff. Wow…DETAILS EVERYWHERE. >.>

Your work is amazing, which is why I am trying to give you as much as you can to work off of, so that you have more time to be creative and put your best effort in, ya? And because I am actually developing ideas as I wait. >.>

Anyway, I wait patiently/impatiently. Because I am so excited to see the end result of all of these lovely portraits.

A little update from me, since they’ve introduced new backpiece since I took my pics, there’s a little change. I have the Desert Rose now instead of Fervid Censer, so would like it to be on the portrait. It’s almost the same, just red.

Before i start, i love your arts, if i will ever have 30 gold to spend i would spend them on your work
I’m totally new at a digital painting and i hope that you duckgirl- a pro one- would help me out with my coloring problems and burdens.
1. How do you color your sketch? By selecting a color and then adding to them lighting and shadows or you coloring in shades of gray and then coloring- something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzWxPE1mLKQ
(and if you could name the second method of coloring, because i don’t even know how to name it and it’s difficult to find any tutorials about it)

2. What kind of brush settings do you use to paint your sketch?

3. You mentioned about that you read imaginefx and most of the time look at others artist work, do you know any other sources where to find any art tips/ tutorial? I know about idrawgirls.com and thats it…

4. Do my sketches have too much or not enough details (i guess that it’s not enough)

5. How to avoid brush overlap in sketch progress- i mean that middle color in pic3.

First of all I’m not pro! ^^ Just doing what I like to do ^^

1. I usually do colorblocking instead of greyscale, but sometimes I switch my work to greyscale real quick to check if the depth and values are correct. I do recommend to start working with greyscale first as it is good training, because it lets you work on values, shapes, depth etc without worrying or getting confused by color and saturation.

2. At first when colorblocking I just use a regular round brush with opacity set to pen pressure. Then when rendering I use same settings with lots of different shaped brushes ^^

3. I don’t really know a lot of sources sorry ^^ Really, the only ones I know are from ImagineFX (they have PDF tutorials that are awesome) XD

4. It depends on you A sketch doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s the “planning” stage, so it’s good to nail everything down before proceeding to colors. I would define the details some more (like the eyes/face details on the two characters) because it’s hard to dive into coloring and then get lost later on. No matter how exciting it is to start coloring (I know ^^).

5. Your brush must be set to low opacity. Just set it to 100% opacity?
